A 7.1MP Canon PowerShot A570iS. biggrin It's last year's model, so there's a newer one out with more megapixels and more options, but I love this one. It's about halfway between a usual point-and-shoot and a digital SLR camera. biggrin I need to get a Gorillapod tripod so I can take better pictures at night.

Wow, that's relatively inexpensive for a camera that takes such lovely pictures. And it's run by real batteries! (Built-in lithiums suck.) Too bad I just bought a new one like less than six months ago. Gah.
(EVERYONE. NEVER BUY A NIKON L18. It's super awful.)

I'm a fan of Canons. My first point-and-shoot was a dinky 3.2MP Canon PowerShot Digital ELPH SD200. I LOVED it. I took over 4000 photos on that thing while I was in southern Japan for 6 months in college. It had a lithium battery, but one you could take out to charge. I liked it because it made it more compact.
Really my only complaint about this camera is the fact it runs on real batteries. They take up space and make it bulkier so I can't keep it in my pocket like I always did with my other one. Also means I have to keep extra batteries on me. My old one I could go two days and take roughly 365 photos before the batteries run out. This one eats through batteries a bit faster. But it may be because I have rechargeable batteries in it...

I was going to ask what kind of camera also. xD
That takes such good pictures, and it actually is rather cheap. I think I might ask for one for Christmas or my birthday. O: <3
Lovely pictures btw. I love Japanese architecture. <3

Lovely pictures btw. I love Japanese architecture. <3 I have yet to have any complaints about my camera, other than it eats batteries. D: But oh well. It offers a lot of options that they don't put on their smaller point-and-shoots, making it more like an SLR in some ways. You can put it on aperture priority, shutter speed priority, full manual and adjust both aperture and shutter speed, tons of ISO settings, and you can manually adjust contrast/sharpness from the camera before you start taking photos. biggrin I LOVES IT. Also, I just found out last night that you can order a lens adapter and two or three extra lenses to take close-ups, wide-angle and telephoto shots as well. O: I'm asking for the adapter and the close-up lens (cause it's the cheapest) for Christmas.

That is so freaking cool. Right now I have a dinky little Sony Cyber-shot. I do get some nice photos, but a lot of the time they come out blurry, and it doesn't have a lot of special settings. ;[

It does have anti-shake on it, which my old one didn't. As I tend not to use the built-in flash a lot, it does help unless it's really majorly dark or I'm using a long shutter speed.. I seriously need a Gorillapod for it. D:

I got my camera for like $70 because it was the floor model that had no software and no USB cord. biggrin They're still relatively cheap new.
Now if not a good time to come to Japan. The US dollar is waaaay lower than the yen currently, so it's extra expensive to exchange dollar to yen. But it's a great time to visit America from Japan. ;D

If America can get it's butt and gear and figure things out, you'll be fine. However, I think Japan's yen is gonna be higher for a while. Which is great for me, considering I have to send money home for student loan payments.
Before if I would send 50,000yen home and get only about $430 bucks off of the exchange rate. Now I get just over $500 for the same 50,000yen. biggrin
