Assuming that I wouldn't have any idea what the Death Note was:

I would read it and be like, "What a child's prank" (kind of like Light at first), then try it out on one of those SERIOUS criminals. And if it worked, I may have become like Light lol.

Like Light, I'd want to try it out, not on a criminal, but a dog >w< Then when it works, I will be horrified, but keep it...Just in case...

I think they'd be able to, just don't make the most obvious mistake he made: don't make it obvious you're committing mass murder against criminals.

Then again, he wanted people to know what he was doing, so as long as you're not an attention seeking megalomaniac, you should be able to succeed. Provided there isn't an real life L hiding somewhere, in which case, I'd have to jump him so he wouldn't really get in your way much 4laugh

But it would be more logical to vary your killing strategy - instead of just using heart attacks, use other methods - sickness, strokes, suicide, random attack/murder by a third party, disease. Also, vary it over time: don't just have them all dieing in 40 seconds - be patient, stretch it over time from anywhere between minutes - years. Rome wasn't built in a day, and if your patient enough, people won't get suspicious until much later on, if ever.

That's what my plan would be anyway. Plus, I'm not exactly noticable in a crowd - I could easily blend in, and I am a pretty patient person. I think I could pull it off, the only thing stopping me would be the idea of "Mu" when I died - not too keen on the idea of nothingness, if the rumours of the Shinigami world actually being Mu are to go by...

Good thing there isn't a real Death Note in existance, huh? biggrin
