Grandmother Sequoia, regarding the carousel soquili,
"All of those horses were created for a frivolous contraption by the colonists at the far north of your village. Several trees were viciously cut down that contained ancient tree spirits trapped within, my kin. They had to stay within the tree even when it was made into a wooden horse and were saddened that they could no longer feel the wind in their leaves.
Once all the wooden horses were attached by their poles into a strange spinning thing called a 'carousel' the tree spirits became happy to feel the wind again. At night when all the children went to sleep the carousel stopped moving, leaving the tree spirits miserable. They called to the Great Spirit for help who took pity on them and made all into living breathing horses.
The poles that connected them to the contraption had vanished, leaving them to run away free. All of the horses could remember their lives as tree spirits in their dreams but while awake they had no memory in their conscious mind. These horses are now just like normal soquili and need loving owners to care for them"
While his wood was being carved, the trapped tree spirit unwittingly absorbed the whispered tales of heroic deeds told by the master craftsman who, with great love and care, formed him into a most princely version of a carousel horse.
When Araval found himself freed from the carousel, he wandered around the Kawani lands, searching for something, though he wasn't sure what it was. Unknowingly drawn to the forests because of his previous life as a tree spirit, he eventually encountered Tavee the medicine woman and the two of them formed a strong friendship. The unicorn helps Tavee with her healings and offers her protection while she is helping him adjust to his new life.
Unbeknownst to him, his son Aranel had two children, Arahael and Galla Sile, with the harpy Luinil. Now Galla Sile has baskets!! Great-grandpa???
