PERSONALITY

As a well-mannered and mild soquili, Jin-Soo is not one difficult to approach. He is always ready to lend his services to those in need and easy to befriend. His family had taught him to be an affable, gentle stallion, and he has found no reason to become otherwise.
As a draft, he's been powerful since birth, and is exceptionally brave. He is exceptionally stubborn, too. He believes there is good in everyone, especially those he's close to, and will furiously defend the honor of his friends, even if they happen to be the one in the wrong. He doesn't put them on a pedestal, however, and is more than willing to admit to a fault one of his companions may possess, so long as their entire integrity is not threatened.
He shows promise to become a good warrior, but is a pacifist at heart. He used to see any act of violence with disdain, though he has since been taught to value the difference between fighting to protect and fighting for the sake of causing harm, and although he would still prefer to solve differences with discussion, he would not be against taking up arms to defend those he loves.
Although he has grown much during his travels, he has still lived a sheltered life and does not know much about the world. He can be ignorant at times, though he's trying to remedy it and has become much more open-minded as he travels across the Kawani lands.
HISTORY

Past:
Jin-Soo was born to respectable parents within a small village. His family was large, the community tight, and the people close. He prospered there, but as he approached adulthood he knew he wouldn't want to spend all of his days in the same place with the same people. And so, after bidding his family and human farewell, he left to travel.
He has since entered the Kawani lands and spends most of his time discovering what he can. A goat companion by the name of Goatee joined him along the way.
Present:
Jin met Resynn (Epine de Rose) who was overseeing the training of other soquili. Appalled by the purposeful use of violence, Jin attempted to change the stallion's mind but was unsuccessful, and the two left on bad terms. It was only when Goatee was nearly killed due to Jin's inaction that he began to change his perspective, for without Resynn's help, Goatee would have surely died. Shaken and humbled, he requested to train under the former military stallion, and has since learned the value of self-defense.
Months later, he and Goatee returned to their travels. He does not teach of fighting or glory, but instead focuses on self-defense training, the purpose of which is not to win a fight, but to get away with the least harm done towards all parties.
One night, he met Iie Namae (hanging gallow) beneath the Twisted Tunnels, and the two raised Nashide "Bitey" and Himitsu "Kracken" Namae together alongside the beach where Iie enjoyed spending her days. When their children grew to adulthood, they left to travel. Saddened by the decision, but no stranger to the wanderlust that took them, he, too, decided to continue his journey and parted with Iie.
[At this time, Goatee had become increasingly fond of children. Jin-Soo and Goatee split up (temporarily) when Goatee chooses to raise a goat child, which later turns out to be a usdia.]
Quidal ([X]Natty-Chan[X]) was his next love, but before their children were more than a year old, a purple stranger warned him that his daughter, Bitey, was in danger. He left to help her, but by the time he reached his daughter, it was too late: her basket had been stolen. He stayed for some time to help her search for the culprit, but eventually, Bitey told him to return home to look after his other children.
He had been gone for so long that Jinko (Ryuukishin), his daughter with Quidal, had set out on an adventure to look for him. But she was still a child, and grew lost. She was never found. This, in addition to the fact that Jin had left Quidal to raise the three other children on her own left a distance between them that they could never hope to fix. Though they were still friendly with one another, he left once the children reached adulthood.
Feeling disconnected from his family and his children especially, he became more prone to aggressive behavior, which coincided with the time the Great Kalona Herd attempted to take over the Kawani lands. He played his part in the numerous battles, and in some cases even instigated the battles himself. Now that it's over, he struggles to come to terms with his changed nature and the guilt he feels over his lost family.

Goatee is much more grave than his soquili companion. He barely smiles, and doesn't even bother to quirk his lips at a joke, though he'll laugh uproariously at any insult that isn't directed towards him. Easily angered and quick to complain, with an obstinacy that surpasses even Jin's, he is, in short, not the best of goats. Despite his age, he acts like a cranky old man and a child throwing a tantrum at the same time, and gets into trouble often. It's a wonder how he can stand anyone, let alone anyone stand him.
However, when times are difficult, he can be as supportive as any friend when he needs to be. He's proven himself a steadfast ally, and his company is not without its benefits. He's knowledgeable on many a subject, and though he may not be so eager to disclose it, he'll put it to use to help his comrades.
After he spent a few years helping Jin raise his family, he became more patient and easier to get along with. He's more willing to help, too, though he still derives some pleasure in taunting others.

Overall, he's quite frail, though his horns, scales, and wings do well to hide the fact and make him appear larger than he really is.

PERSONALITY

Lazarus is a suspicious soquili, one who rarely reveals much if it can be helped. Oh, he can certainly feign intimacy – he'll give others unfitting nicknames, for example, and he speaks with an air of familiarity about him, as though the one he were talking to was an old friend. However, when others think back on his conversations, they'll find that despite his friendly tone, he tells very little about himself, and what he does disclose is likely a lie.
He doesn't hold much ill will, and it's not out of spite that he chooses to remain discreet. Rather, he is apathetic towards his fellows, and he doesn't know why. He has a difficult time comprehending others, especially when it comes to understanding things from another's perspective, and he sees no reason to share his own thoughts when he cannot discern anyone else's. It wouldn't be far-fetched to say he holds a childish mentality and is socially awkward, though his actions do well to conceal the fact.
Although kalona blood runs through his veins, it's diluted enough to allow him to remain mentally stable. Surprisingly, he is not easily riled, nor is he very aggressive, but it doesn't mean he's never influenced by his darker heritage. There are days when the blood-lust is heavy upon him, and though he'd been taught to appease it with small game, his hunts aren't always successful. Those who flare his temper quickly learn to keep their distance.
While his violent outbursts may be rare, his other less-than-desirable traits are not. When not emboldened with his kalona blood, he's a coward through and through, and quick to flee if he feels his safety is threatened. He's can be quite the trickster, as well. He enjoys playing pranks, ranging from simple scares to elaborate ruses, going so far as to take on another persona to pretend to be someone he's not. It's led to feelings of betrayal in the past, and even a few broken hearts. Still, as Lazarus can only see the situations from his point of view, he thinks the entire thing comical, with no fault on his end, and does nothing to change his ways.
Despite that, he can still be a good companion. He's always ready and willing for games and adventure, especially if he can learn something from it, and he's not against helping another. He can be surprisingly sweet, too, towards less sentient creatures and those he's fond of, though few soquili have received his genuine affections.

Past:
Lazarus was weak at birth, and sickly by the time he was old enough to nudge the lid off his basket. The anxious gaze and tense form of his kirin mother was the first thing he saw, her striking pelt and glittering scales a relief from the otherwise dark and shadowed forest that took up the rest of his vision. (Even then, as a feverish newborn foal just out of the basket, he thought she was beautiful. He always did.) The past few months of her life had been particularly strained, and she was disheartened to see its effects on her only foal. He was cradled so uncertainly in life's grasp, and clearly needed help, but they were in hiding and her mate was nowhere in sight.
Lazarus' father was a crossbreed, half wind, half kalona. Circumstance had been kind to him, and though he was raised among his kalona brethren, he grew to be an amiable soul that turned away from violence. That is not to say he shied from it – he was one of the best fighters of his herd. He simply didn't condone its use for the sake of primal pleasures, and this formed a rift between him and his family. It was not strong enough to break his familial ties, however. Food was difficult to come by, and although he did not agree with his herd, he did not dislike them. He felt a debt to them for raising him, and did what he could to repay it. He may have even stayed there the rest of his life, had he not met Lazarus' mother. The two fell in love, and it was this that took Lazarus' father from his birth herd.
Enraged and bitter, the herd of kalona promised the death of Lazarus' mother and any children she would have. Lazarus' father was tacked onto the list when he took his mate and fled. The pair didn’t want to endanger others, and so, rather than requesting the aid of another herd, they sought the thick woods for protection. There, they lived in shadow, where light appeared only in cracks, and often diluted by the leaves above. It was dismal, but better than nothing, and their spirits were soon raised with the promise of a coming foal.
Lazarus' birth was surrounded by the elation of expecting parents, but fear, too. The kalona herd's words would not be so easily forgotten, and his parents became cautious. Lazarus' father began scouting the area more often, and it was from one of his patrols that he finally returned. Seeing his son peer over the lip of the basket, he quickened his pace, and went faster still when his sharp eyes caught the unhealthy look of the foal in the gloomy light.
Although the sickness would forever leave Lazarus weaker, he, thankfully, survived.
He lived in peace after that. The kalona did not come, and his parents’ love for one another and for him did not waver. He was happy, but he was alone. The company of adults only are not very fit for a young foal, especially when they spend most of their time scouting or talking of dangers unseen and unheard. There had been some mention of returning to the lighted world a few times, but much of Lazarus’ childhood was spent with only his imagination as a peer. And, when he finally did leave the forest, it was not with the celebration his parents had hoped for.
Nearly a year after his birth, the kalona herd had finally come. Rushing from the shadows' depths, they took the family by surprise. Only the tightly-packed trees kept Lazarus and his family from being killed on the spot. Panic guided them, and they scattered. Luckily, Lazarus was still small then. He managed to escape detection and, eventually, the forest itself. He was never found, by neither the kalona nor his parents, and he can only assume his parents met their end in the forest of his birth.
Since then, he’s journeyed across the Kawani lands, and does so still. He has never told anyone what’s happened within the forest, as he himself is unsure of it. His parents hadn’t troubled him with the details of their past, and he is unaware of the peril he’d be in should the herd find him. What he does know is that danger lies in darkness, and he carries with him always a ray of light.
Present:
Tallon (Revel1984) found Lazarus after his escape and took him in. She helped him adjust to the new, lighted world, and raised him to be a considerate stallion, but could never quite instill much bravery in him. Still, he did his best to please her, and it was only with her insistence that he attempted flying at all.
A strong wind blew him off course during one of his flights, and though he was not taken far, he was too tired to take wing and return. It was his first night alone, but before fear could get the better of him, he ran into Crusnik (LunaRei_SilverBlood). The two fell in love, and he took to visiting her often since then. He'd considered joining the Fiamma Eterna herd with her, but when she grew pregnant, the mere idea of responsibility was enough to send him fleeing. Too ashamed to return to his mother with the news of what he'd done, he took to traveling.
Lonely, and desperate to shake Tallon and Crusnik from his mind, he spent his days setting up elaborate pranks or forming intimate bonds with others (the majority of which were male to prevent future pregnancies), only to leave them when the guilt he felt at abandoning his family threatened to consume him. However, his desolation was such that he'd soon find himself drawn to another companion and repeat the cycle.
It continued for years, even when his kalona hunger emerged. In one of his rages, he attacked Nikandros (Epine de Rose), who eventually took him in and helped him accept his heritage. The stallion worked with Lazarus to hone his hunting skills as well, and he's faced little trouble with his aggressive urges since.
On a hunting trip, he unintentionally went after Nellene's (Baby Pandah) kill and managed to take it before she did. Mistaking him for a powerful individual, she kept him as a guard and trained him the ways of the kalona. Shortly after, he came across Mest (xxx Yuki Bear xxx) in the center of a massacre, suffering from a bout of amnesia. Believing he to be the killer and desiring such power under his own command, Lazarus convinced the stallion that the two were lovers and took him back to Nellene. By then, Nellene had come to realize her initial assessment of Lazarus had been incorrect, and was bitter about being saddled with such a cowardly weakling. She wanted Mest instead. She attempted to turn Mest's affection towards her, growing to love him at the same time Lazarus began to truly fall for his own deceit. Their opposing wants cut a rift between them, but Lazarus felt indebted to her and was reluctant to leave.
When the Great Kalona Herd came to the lands, Nellene tried to take advantage of it by having Lazarus killed. The plan failed, and the tension between the members of their group grows by the day.
Timeline:
Despite Lazarus' sense of obligation towards Nellene, her attempt on his life drives him to leave with Mest.
They adopt Growl (Tirokio), a feral foal they come across by chance. Lazarus proves his inadequacy as a parent, but discovers Mest's paternal side. Realizing how much children mean to Mest, he makes an honest attempt to raise Growl, but still has much to learn. When Growl is a young adult, the stallion strikes off to make a life of his own.
Lazarus and Mest's relationship become strained. Lazarus, desperate to keep his lover and bodyguard, makes a wish upon a star. They are given another foal to raise: Anchovy (Ryuukishin). Lazarus is not the best with children, but he certainly has no qualms about using them as tools to further his own ends.
Lazarus and Mest meet Lux (xxx Yuki Bear xxx), a mare intent on finding children to raise as her underlings. She sets her sights on Anchovy but ultimately fails.
Lazarus is fond of Mest's gentle, paternal side, even if he himself does not share those instincts. When Anchovy is full-grown, Mest wishes for more children. Lazarus and Mest are now blessed with two additional children: Snapper (xxx Yuki Bear xxx) and Sardine (Ryuukishin).
Snapper and Sardine pop from their baskets. Months pass, and the family is at peace. That is, until Lux returns. She causes a forest fire that destroys their home and separates the family: Lazarus with Mest, Anchovy on her own, and Snapper with Sardine. Casualties are high, and the burnt corpses of soquili and other creatures are everywhere. The separated family members are unable to find one another, and assume the others are dead. (Their timelines continue in their own posts: Anchovy, Sardine.)
During the fire, Lazarus panicked, and was more interested in saving himself and Mest than anyone else. Mest becomes bitter, and claims their children could have been saved had Lazarus taken advantage of his wings to help them. In addition, the events of the fire result in Mest getting his memories back, and he realizes his relationship with Lazarus started with a lie. The two have a violent argument and split.
Lazarus comes across Bacillus (Ryuukishin), his long-abandoned son. Bacillus has spent years tracking Lazarus down to find out why Lazarus left his family. A confrontation occurs, but by this point, Lazarus is well-versed when it comes to manipulating others. He convinces Bacillus that his grudges are unfounded, and Lazarus' efforts are aided by the fact that Bacillus has become unstable due to past trauma. Lazarus eventually guilt-trips Bacillus into becoming his new bodyguard, though he realizes Bacillus' mental state makes him unreliable.
Lazarus meets Kianzio-Uzulu (samus x), a mare of proud kalona-draconic heritage. By this point, Lazarus is in need of a new protector, is well aware of the strength of fire, and sees children as tools. He courts Kianzio and proves his worth despite his diluted kalona blood, so that he might have strong children to raise for his own uses. However, although Kianzio acknowledges his strengths, her family is a different matter, and the two decide to have foals away from her family's herd.
Lazarus begins to train the children as soon as they emerge from the basket. Azrael (Ryuukishin), the second-born, is the only one Kianzio's family accepts. This gives him access to a wider array of tutors, and despite his lack of flame-producing capability, he quickly catches Lazarus' eye.
Although Lazarus is more effective at training than parenting, he's still new to it. By the time his and Kianzio's children reach adulthood, Azrael is the only viable candidate to serve as his protector.
Lazarus frequently travels outside of the family with Azrael and Bacillus to offer them more training from other tutors. During one outing, Rosenkreuz (LunaRei_SilverBlood), Bacillus' sister, finds him. She discovers Lazarus' malicious nature and tries to rescue her brother. She eventually succeeds, but not before Bacillus grows insane and becomes useless to Lazarus.

Coming from a line of peacock-like stallions, it's no surprise to see Garland is a prideful soquili. He was endowed with a natural charm and elegance that merged well with his features, adding to his beauty. He often used it to his advantage to worm his way out of trouble or reprimand, and as a result of numerous successes, he can be over-bearing at times. Still, he means well, and although he may act lofty, he is not truly haughty.
He is a fairly intelligent soquili. He picks things up easily and quickly, and has a certain thirst for learning. It is not a focused desire, however, and so it's not uncommon for him to switch subjects as soon as a new idea begins to attract him. While it's prompted him to find out many things, it's made it so that he's no expert on any subject.
Though he knows much, he's not the type to think before he acts. He is an impulsive creature, acting swiftly and decisively. As soon as he finds an object of interest, he heads towards it immediately, with little regard towards anyone's personal space. This forwardness has made him bold, and there are few threats he'd back down from.
One of the dangers he fears is his own mind. His mother was mentally unstable, and whatever it was that afflicted her passed down to Garland. There are times when he suddenly stops what he's doing and becomes lost in his own fantastical land. Even his senses turn towards the imagined world, so powerful are the hallucinations. Such incidents are few and far in between, but Garland is not in control of his own body then, nor is he privy to any memories or senses in the physical world. He simply wakes up to find he is in a different place and a different time, and it scares him to know what he may do during such moments.

What Scrappy lacks in size, she makes up for in personality. She is an outgoing little beastie, with a naturally loud voice and a will to be heard. Although she tries her best to be companionable, she was raised in a competitive environment and is quick to declare battle with another. However, in the end, it’s all meant in fun. She holds no grudges, and the more she butts heads with another, the more she comes to enjoy their company.
While she may not look it, Scrappy is also a hopeless romantic. Much of her idle thoughts are filled with imagined heroes, and she eagerly awaits the day her One And Only appears, with a mountain of food just for her.

At first, Nashide Namae appears to be a subdued creature. She is quiet and unassuming, a presence that blends into the background as easily as shadows in the night. She is not the type to seek company, but she doesn't shy away from it, either. She is fully capable of interaction, though she always seems distracted, as if her thoughts are turned to a world all her own. There are times when she looks at things invisible to earthly eyes and speak to voices only she can hear, but at the same time, she is entirely aware of her surroundings and grapples constantly to maintain her place in both the "real" world and the one "imagined."
During moments of lucidity, when she is grounded towards the normal world, she grows more animated, unrestrained, and even reckless. She is often this way around family and close friends, as she values their company enough to leave behind the other world, if only for a moment. When she slips away into the land that thrives only within her head, the opposite occurs, and she becomes withdrawn. However, she will still be in control, and will not permit anyone to impose their will over hers.
Her imagination, on top of the love she received and experienced from her family despite her mutated traits, has made her a very open-minded, accepting, and loving mare. She sees beauty in anything and everything, and is not opposed to showing her appreciation, especially towards other soquili. She'll often nibble, cuddle, kiss, or initiate some touch to express her affection and content, so long as the other doesn't mind. Anyone she does not outright dislike can be subject to it, as the actions are entirely platonic.
From her mother, she inherited a tendency to collect anything shiny, including things that glow. If she finds any objects that fit the description and are unclaimed, she'd chew it for fun and likely mar it before hoarding it away. Her unusual mouth was a source of turmoil for her as a foal, and because of this she tends to form an emotional attachment to anything she permanently damages with her teeth. The tunnel had given her and her brother strange and eerie mutations, but their parents understood the cause and were far from horrified, which allowed Nashide to accept her differences early on in life. Other than that, she grew up with an ordinary childhood.

She thought she would always wander, but in an accident she scarred Dragoona (techabyte) and came to believe she loved the mare. Secretive and somber, Giuseppe is not a stallion one would want to meet when defenseless and alone. He is not evil, per say – most would find him quite refined, in fact, as if he was the descendant of a long and noble line, with a politeness to match. However, there always seems to be a dark energy lying beneath the surface with him, surging and receding like the tide and tipping on the verge of release, though he takes care to remain poised, controlled, and careful, choosing his battles so that he comes out on top.
His temper is a slow-burning thing, quick to light and long to last. When he is angry, he becomes violent and brutish, but never rash. It is then that one is reminded most of his antlers, their liquid shadow tines twisting to a deadly point, and of his sharpened hooves and hardened scales. No doubt some have met their deaths by his hand, their corpses weighing stiff and heavy upon his head as the spiraling spears of his antlers protrude from their bodies like stalagmites rising from a cavern floor. But none are certain, and none have asked.
Unsurprisingly, he is a solitary creature, finding most to be inferior to himself. Still, if another happened upon him, he would not force them away. He finds some pleasure in riling others or manipulating them for his amusement, and if he can no longer stand their company, he will simply leave, if he does not chase them off outright.
He is a stallion who can hate with everything he has, but he can also love with all his being, too. Those who can evoke such a feeling from him will find that there is a softness beneath his thorns, a fondness he can somehow manage to convey past his savagery. For those he loves, he can become more gentle than he has ever been, and yet, at the same time, more brutal.

Past:
Giuseppe was not like other ceryni. His horns did not fall, and they did not grow with a soft coat of velvet. No, they were made of studier, more permanent stuff, for he had them in his birth and has never lost them since. They tore his mother apart when she had him; he had never known her, but he felt he could see her kindness reflected back at him through the hatred in his family’s eyes. Surely, they would not have felt so strongly against him had they not loved her.
When he had grown old enough to understand death, his father grew ill and passed away. The herd blamed him: they called him cursed and said his antlers were a reflection of his black and twisted heart, settled on his head like a crown for all to see. They could not cast him out, for though he was despised he was still a foal. They kept him but everyone, including he, wished they hadn’t. He was constantly harassed by the younger members and treated with barely-concealed disgust by the older. It was no surprise, then, to see that he, the son of two of the kindest breeds known to soquili, would turn into a monster.
However, not everything was bad in his youth. Though he’d become violent as he grew, more starving animal than a sentient species, not all had forsaken him. One day he met a filly from a different herd, and they found comfort with one another and their shared experiences. Feeling lonely and displaced, the two quickly became close and intimate friends. They grew closer by the day, often taunting and playing dangerous pranks on the members of Giuseppe’s herd, further alienating others from their own little world.
Giuseppe felt he could bear all the darkness these lands had to offer if he was only with her, but it was not to last. His friend was very close to her adopted father, and on a day when they were growing out of their gangly legs and entering adulthood, he made the mistake of letting his jealousy show and insulted the stallion. It led to a heated argument, during which his friend coldly stated that she could never love a primal barbarian like him. Shortly afterwards, she found a clue that would lead to her true parents and in the midst of her anger, she left him without a word. Feeling abandoned and betrayed, he, too, left, to wander the lands and find his own place in life. However, he never lost his love for her. Since then, he has learned to better control his temper and become someone she would be proud to have at her side, should they ever meet again.
Present:
During his search, he came across Sheria (Candle Wick Ghost). Her name and demeanor were such that she reminded him highly of Sophia. He mistakenly thought he could grow to love her and treated her kindly, though his version of kindness was questionable. When her family betrayed her, he convinced her that he was all she has left to keep her close. However, he grew increasingly irritated with her, and not long after came to the conclusion that nothing could replace his Sophia. Despite Sheria's pregnancy, he forced her to travel with him to continue his search.
Future:
When the baskets come, Giuseppe no longer has use for Sheria. He attempts to take custody of all his children, though Evan (-MoomoolatteCha-), Sheria's betrothed, may prevent it. Eventually, he will reunite with Sophia and they'll make up and try to take over the world.

A number of disappointments – inconsequential individually, but draining from sheer numbers – has given Inugami a sour outlook. She is slow to trust and quick to defend, oftentimes lashing out against those who she feels have slighted her. Many of these offenses have only been imagined on her side, but real or no, the result is the same and she is left almost entirely alone.
Though she can be described as jaded, it doesn’t come from wisdom. Her experiences have not bettered her, and she remains an immature mare. Whenever someone inflicts any cruelties upon her, she feels she’s bearing their sins – not out of arrogance, but because she has had few peers as she grew, and without any sort of reference to see how she’s faring and a poorly developed sense of empathy, her own sufferings are magnified in her mind’s eye. Beneath her fierce exterior she is still a foal who only wants to do good and be accepted, though her desires are poorly portrayed.
Her parents had wit and intelligence, both of which she’d inherited, though hers come more from shallow observation than a true understanding of the subtleties in the lives around her. As a result, she is swayed more by feelings than she is cold logic, and she sees with eyes clouded and colored by her emotions. Those who offer a few kind words and a well-placed note of admiration will find that her heart and soul are easily won.
As she learns more about the world, she’ll begin to seek appreciation on her own terms, rather than passively wait for it to come to her. She’ll choose to take it upon herself to punish the wicked by eating them alive, believing herself a martyr and expecting praise for it, though in actuality it's an ambiguous revenge against the spite she faced in youth. Axelle and her siblings were born to the prominent Great Kalona Herd, where power was everything. They were an aggressive group, and battles – either amongst themselves or against outsiders – were not uncommon. It was during one such war that her mother and sister were killed.
Devastated by the display of weakness, she promised herself she'd become stronger, and began to find training from outside the herd. During that time, she met Darian (hanging gallow), a cruel and manipulative stallion that sought to bring destruction upon any soquili he met. Axelle's herd was prestigious, and he knew those of unpure Kalona blood – or those who chose to knowingly fornicate with one – were looked down upon and killed for sport. Axelle was still young, and his strength and brutish nature was attractive enough for her to agree to a union. When she grew pregnant, Darian left, and she was left to deal with the consequences.
Telling her herd and family that she was going off on an extended scouting mission, she managed to have her foals in secret. Unfortunately, she was unable to bring herself to kill them. She left her baskets to fend for themselves, but always worried that they would find her, to destroy her status in the herd and get revenge for their abandonment. But if they lived, they never did.
Years passed, and she rose within the ranks of the herd. Her father became lieutenant, and she herself was preparing to follow in his steps. She'd partnered with Zeilvar (XBlind-DarknessX), and his physical prowess coupled with her knowledge of strategies and tactics quickly made them a couple to be feared. It seemed they could never be stopped – at least, until her brother and Zeilvar formed a rivalry. After Axelle's experiences with Darian, she wouldn't have paired up with just anybody; Zeilvar was too strong, and when he inevitably bested her brother in battle, he killed and ate him to cull the weakness from the herd. The practice wasn't uncommon, but it was the first time one of Axelle's own family had been victim to it. It opened her eyes to the cruelties of the herd; and so, when her father formed a rebellion, she joined him.
The alphas of the herd worked hard to keep their position in the herd. Dissenters were tortured and killed, and the rebels learned to meet only in secret. But even with that precaution, they were being picked off, one by one. Some stopped coming to the meetings; others bemoaned the fruitlessness of it. It seemed the rebels would meet their end. But then, the Great Herd declared war against the Kawani lands.
They ravaged the lands, but not without consequence. Many of the herd fell to acquire and defend lands the herd didn't really need. Dissent grew, while at the same time the Kawani natives were forming a fighting force of their own to drive the Herd away. The culmination of such events destroyed the Great Herd, its members scattered across the Kawani lands.
Timeline:
Since the fall of the Great Herd, Axelle spent much time exploring the Kawani lands, eager to find the source of its strength: the strength that allowed it to defeat her own birth herd in battle.
Axelle grapples with her own nature. All her life, she had been raised to be on the alert, to show no weakness, to flaunt her power. In the Great Herd, it made her prestigious; in these peaceful lands, it made her difficult to get along with. In addition, the trauma of the war leaves her paranoid and aggressive.
Axelle learns the source of the Kawani native's power were not their physical strengths, but the bonds that kept them together and allowed them to fiercely protect one another. Her own outlook on life begins to change.
Axelle meets an old comrade from the Great Herd, Nemain (-Diamond-Elephant-). They reminisce, and see how much they've changed and how far they've come. A relationship blooms.
