Grumby zipped and buzzed around the kitchen, preparing for the Wiseacre's sale that began today at the little shop in Hogsmeade. He stacked trays full of treats like fudge, cookies, and cupcakes so high that they teetered and threatened to fall. He set these on a long trolley, next to two large pitchers, one of butterbeer, one of pumpkin juice. He added some other snacks to the trolley before announcing to the other house elves, "Well my friends, Grumby is going to be a busy elf this month. He's catering for a sale in Hogsmeade every day." Grumby told them in a proud voice, giving a slight wave before saying, "Tootles!" and disapparating into Hogsmeade.

The door of the kitchens creaked open with the help of Grumby's magic, his arms too full of a towering pile of silver platters to bother with door handles. The large room beneath the Great Hall was buzzing with various elf business, all based around preparing hearty food for tonight's sorting ceremony. This was Grumby's favorite time of the year next to the end-of-the-year feast, as he was given a chance to show off his cooking talent, something that he would have never been able to accomplish in his old life.
Approaching a long wooden table, Grumby shoved a glass platter laden with an enormous turkey to the side with his foot, allowing him just enough room to set down his current load and move on to the next. Reaching into the emerald green apron he wore around his petite waist, the small house elf pulled out a skinny, but extremely long roll of parchment that would appear to anyone else to be nothing but chicken scratch. However, Grumby could read his sloppy mess of scattered letters better than a neatly printed scroll, making it effortless for him to find the task he had just completed and scratch it off with a short, feathered quill.
Beneath Retrieve dinner platters, there were only three tasks left until they would serve the initial food, consisting of: Finish preparing first round of food, Plate main entrees, sides, and h'orderves, and Add finishing touches. The first round of food was certainly of the most importance, being that it would be the first thing the students and staff would see when the feast officially began, and likely the last thing they would remember before they sunk into a good night's sleep. After that was all said and done, Grumby would be able to relax for a moment while the second, third, and fourth helpings of food simmered harmlessly on the stove tops. Relaxing wasn't necessarily in Grumby's agenda, but decorating the never-ending collection of cookies, cakes, and other desserts most certainly was.

A frown creasing her face and dark, liquid eyes gazing further than the reality of the cobblestone she was treading on. Thoughts swimming in her eyes and wonderings of the words she had just been conveyed. Her business being down by the kitchens and inevitably the Hufflepuff Common Room had been in the search of her friend, Jane Doyle. Having missed her at the Feast as well as the casual passings they often shared, Phinelia had again began to wonder her friend's position. The rumours of the smashing plate had also worked her thoughts.
The redhead stepped lightly and with mechanical efficiency as the words of one of the Hufflepuffs rounded in her skull and resounded how they had not seen hair nor tail of Jane since the year previous. Glancing up suddenly with a determinant sigh of decision made to find her another time, Phi caught sight of a small shadow standing before the large painting in front of the kitchens' portal. Phi blinked and was surprised that she immediately recognized the young girl with the cat in her arms as a First Year Ravenclaw. One she had managed to catch the eye of at both the table and in the Common Room not six hours earlier. She approached cautiously then, tread slowly as she observed the actions of the nameless girl. She stood with a concentrated look touching her face that had Phi coming to only one conclusion; trying to enter the kitchens. With a knowing grin she rounded next to the girl and cleared her throat, surprising the First Year. "You tickle the pear," she whispered, grinning still, "Do not get caught inside, in and out before the elves catch you! Then you won't be able to leave with all the food they will give you." she chuckled.╚══════════════════╝

"Oh, it is. No one minds but the House Elves are very...." the Ravenclaw momentarily lapsed into silence as her molten eyes turned upwards to regard the large painting of the fruit bowl with thought. Eyes lightly zipping back and forth in mental searching for a considered word. "Eager," she finished finding it quickly, "They like giving visiting students a lot of food. Too much food," she regarded the girl again with the same small smile, "It becomes hard to carry," she whispered then, before gesturing mildly to the pear, allowing the young First Year to try her hand at the entrance trick herself. Knowing how much she herself thrilled in finding such secrets as these.╚══════════════════╝

With a mischevious grin, Shina darted into the kitchen. Tugging the square scarf she had been wearing around her neck off, Shina gave it a brisk shake and laid it over a side table. A plate was neatly centered on the scarf, then loaded quickly with a chicken breast, three chocolate drizzled tarts with unknown filling, an apple turnover, two peaches, a bit of chocolate lasagna left over from the feast, and a fork. Then Shina grabbed the corners of the scarf and tied the whole thing up into a neat bundle. The whole process had taken just over a minute. Holding the knot at the top of the bundle, with Hana now perched on her shoulder, Shina grinned at the older girl. "Okay, now where do we go to eat our spoils?"

Weaving a bit further into the kitchen where he two sought apple resided and then returning to where the other Ravenclaw was scouring for her pear crumble. Noting with a curious eye the amount as well as the fashion in which her accomplice packaged her spoils, Phi could not stop the thought of how resourceful - or perhaps prepared - the girl was for this small adventure. Beaming then when the question was asked in the whispered caution of stirring nothing to the attention of their presence within, Phi felt a warmth rush into her. A thrill of adventure she had never felt outside of the very tight ring of her three close friends whenever they bounded into their personally defined challenges and adventures; a thrill of knowing someone wanted to continue on the trail along side her. With a wide grin, she motioned silently for them to return to the corridor before running off with her three things in hand and steps floating on the excitement of further fun. Gesturing eagerly to be followed as she rounded towards the Hufflepuff Common Room once more.

Adalaide BlytheHufflepuff // First Year // Kitchen // WearingCURRENTLY WITH // MichelleCURRENTLY FEELING // HungryCURRENTLY THINKING // 'Maybe they'll have some treats just sitting around...'═════════════════════════════════
Adalaide entered the kitchen, her eyes wide, scarcely believing that she'd managed to get in. It had just been by an accident, a one in a million random action, but it had worked. And she was starving. After what'd happened in DADA, she was in serious need of comfort food, which meant she needed pumpkin something. It didn't matter what it was; she just needed pumpkin. Bread, pie, cake, rolls, anything. Well, anything more than juice, which of course she would love some of, but wouldn't be very filling. She looked around, her eyes wide, watching all of the activity. She'd never seen a House Elf; now she was surrounded by dozens of them. And they all looked so busy, and so happy to be so busy! She glanced back, waiting for Michelle to follow her into the kitchen, kind of wanting to see the look on her friend's face.

Can't help if I space in a daze, My eyes tune out the other way, I may switch off and go in a daydream
Rose stumbled into the kitchens, tugging Nell behind her. She had heard from one of the older students about where the kitchens were, and she wanted to cook. Really cook. She hadn't done it in a while. She flashed a smile over at her girlfriend, and looked around. "Come on, I wanted to see if I could make something for the two of us." The place was big. However, that was all the thought she had, as she was immediately surrounded by house-elves. The redhead blinked. Well, that was unexpected.
