I was going to say the same thing as Akari- no way that's an Imbellis. The wild types simply don't have that much finnage, and they don't come in the colour ranges like that. Size isn't really an indicator, Helios is GIGANTIC compared to my other boys and he is definitely a Splendens. I believe the wild types are usually smaller, as well.

sad I'd still like an Imbellis. The long flowy fins never really attracted me. It makes me more nervous than anything, about them getting nipped or ripping on a decoration. So maybe they threw that fish in there cause they were out of imbellis, maybe the fish this guy was chilling with WAS an imbellis, but he lacked color completely he was just totally dark brown. So hopefully they'll have more options next time.

A true Imbellis you'll probably have to get online. They generally aren't sold in pet stores. But you could also get a plakat... they're Splendens, and easier to find, but with short fins. An Imbellis is less aggressive and would do better in a community though.

nnnooooo! BUT I WANT A PLECO! *throws a tantrum* Nilla said I coouuulllddd crying

and yes, it was always platies OR barbs never both but stronly leaning to platies. And the betta honestly did not looked like he had torn fins, it's probably a crappy picture. And he looked huge in comparison to the splendons and was swimming along with another fish of equal size just totally chill about it.

I know I saw MTS snails, I'll have to check if the others you posted are available. And yes, looking for an aquaclear filter and of course I will cycle first. By order, I guess, I mean like, do I need to work up some algea before getting a bottom feeder, especially if I am forced to get otos (though honestly I didn't see any at the store) or since betta's are territorial buggers, should I get that last so he doesn't go all nutso when I try to add fish to the tank.

*wants a pleco*

Have you looked at Clown Plecos? They are cute! And stay even smaller then BNs. My BNs parents are a good 6 or 7 inches, so I'm actually thinking about rehoming him. If you can, asked for a latin name of the BN you want to get, and see how big it gets. If its a big one like mine (even though he is albino), definatly not good for a 10 gallon. But Clowns max out at 4 inches, and are super cute =3

It was probly just a crapy pic lol I'm still thinking he's a King or King mix. Oviously not seeing it in person (or a clear pic lol), its hard to say.

You shouldnt have to build up algae if you are not getting Ottos. Plecos will take veggies and algae wafers just fine. Bettas are usually fine with bottom feeders being added after they are since they dont share the same space in the tank. So if you do end up going with Ottos, they should be just fine being added last.

Like I said, look into Clown Plecos. I see them at Pet Supermarket for $4 =3

You had to get my hopes up before squashing them didn't you. I WANT a 20G but I just haven't seen one that is short and wide which I really need. I guess I'll have to visit the other store and see if they carry otos. Do they stick to the glass like plecos? I really liked that, thought they looked soo cute all open mouth.

Because while I intend to do water changes once a week. To be honest it will happen that it goes over if I have a competition or something.

But lemme just remind yall we're talking 24" long here... redface

Lol, Gabby. I said Ideally. As long as you keep up on your water changes it shouldn't be a problem.

But if by keep up on water changes you mean more than once a week that is not going to happen. I'm working 6 days a week now, taking Cowboy to rehab (and once that's done hopefully training to compete again) and my teacher just gave us all homework for the summer. So I really only see it happening once a week. And if I have to leave straight from work to go compete it could go over by 2-3 days. So I will definitely try to find a clown pleco. And I will inquire about the imbellis as well. I noticed a couple fish were misplaced. I wouldn't have known had I not talked to you guys and looked online at the fish you suggested.

Just dont let water changes go beyond 9 days. Stuff happens thats interferes with them, so its understandable lol You may want to get some Prime. Its a water conditioner that reduces/removes ammonia, meaning no nitrites and nitrates, but doesnt interefere with the biological filtration, so you will not screw with the cycle using it.

If you do have to go longer then 9 days (but less then 14), then do a water change when you can, and then do the next one when it was supposed to be done (like, I do my water changes on fridays or saturdays, so if I had to skip one, untill say wednsay, I'd do it then, and then another friday).

Alway double check about the types of fish at the store, unless you are absolutly sure what it is lol LFS like to do that, out of conveience with the stocking of the tanks. Chains store that do it are just retarded and lazy (like that poor misplaces Neon Tetra I see at PetSmart all the time, in with the male Guppies XD)

Learn to enjoy water changes and it will never be a problem. I multi-task. It takes me about 30 seconds to siphon the bottom of the tank, then I just leave the siphon in there and do other stuff until the bucket is almost full. You can do it while you're relaxing or eating.

Ya, I use to do it while simultaneously cleaning the rat cage. With the vermin I try to do a quick clean every two days (pick up poops that aren't in the litter, empty litter, swap the towels for fresh ones and spray/wipe the shelves while doing so. With this strategy, it really doesn't need a big cleaning. But I empty out the shelves, houses, hammock etc every two weeks or more and let everything soak. If I skip just one day, I find the poo piles up so fast and the pee seeps through the towels which they sleep on so I have to do a major clean and bath. I just don't want to overload myself with work here. The rats are easy cause the cage is next to my desk, I see poop, I open the door, pick it up toss it in the litter. An aquarium I'd have to go get a bucket and siphon.

Turkey basters are good for quick touch-ups. They are also good for other things lol You will find many uses for a turkey baster XD

Like Nilla said, milti tasking is the way to go with water changes, unless you get a really stupid fish that likes to play in the syphon, then you have to sit there and make sure it doesnt go too far up it >.<

:3 when I'm cleaning a tank that has dumb fish like that, I use my veggie clip and clip the siphon just above the bottom. That way there's no room for escapees.

What the s**t! tanks are sharp! Thanks for warning me guys! crying

Had to take off those lil corner barriers cause this tank is just...disgusting. I dunno what the hell it's covered with, looks almost like rust. Anyway, went to pick the tank up to empty the gavel water out of it, put my finger under with the weight of the tanl and maybe 4gallons of water and... I believe my words were something like OH THATS SHARP AS s**t! And then attempted to bandage my own finger while simultaneously bleeding all over the roll of gauze.

Seriously guys, don't trust me to know stuff like this! Plz explain how to make this tank pretty again. I'm CLRing the s**t out of it, I was wearing a mask, gloves (which is now ripped and covered in blood) and the window wide open.
PostPosted: Tue May 31, 2011 4:25 pm

sooo, the guys was not really accurate about the size of this thing evil

It's 12.5in high and yes that half inch makes a huge difference for me. It actually doesn't currently fit. And despite my many efforts and time spent cleaning, it still looks like crap. So I'm beyond frustrated right now. The glass also seems to have some micro scratches all over which wasn't noticeable when it was covered in dirt but now is pissing me off. Maybe when it's filled it won't be noticeable but all the crap on the sides still is. scream

What have you been using to clean it with in terms of scrubbing (like sponge, paper towel, etc.)? You may need something a bit stronger. You can also use a razor to scratch stuff of that won't come. That's generally what we use for hard algae. You can get packs of razorblades fairly cheap at the hardware store, just be VERY CAREFUL. They are sharp, and you can hurt yourself.
