Arrival
So it was real.
She had gone for her tour around the campus and gotten her room key, and here she sat at her new desk, chair spun backward to look out at the room. She had everything she needed here, everything she had ever wanted, and she was officially a student at Amityville Academy, well-prepared to learn everything there was, but there was one problem.
Taryn was terrified.
This was the first time the chimera had to leave home to go to school, and while her parents weren't far away, they weren't here. On the bright side, there would be no nagging, no pushing, she was left solely to her own devices to survive the school year. There were classes to take, clubs to join, and... friends to make. Oh, it was so exciting to be surrounded by boils and ghouls that didn't know her or her reputation. She was so scared to be alone, so unsure of herself and how she would fare in this new social circumstance, but it was exciting.
Just today she had put in a bid for a prom date. She was forcing herself to meet at least one other person, even if it went terribly and she had to run home. There would be other kids, too. There would be fellow students to meet and greet and even if she made no new friends, she would be able to say she had done it; she had gone to a dance and been in a social situation.
...but then what?

Nervously Plotting
Taryn hadn't thought this through. The idea of having a date to prom was exciting, but she hadn't really thought on all of the middle ground-- how would they know when and where to meet? It made sense to have to meet her date first, and she was nervous. What if he was the captain of the bruteball team? What if he was a real jerk or, Jack forbid, some kind of sleaze? She held the purple stationary in her hand, just looking it over. Joachim... that was an interesting name. Maybe it matched an interesting person.
She had decided to go the mysterious femme fatale route, regardless of how likely it was to end in disappointment for her escort. She was afraid to approach the boy on her own, especially since he appeared to be a reaper, not a monster such as herself. She had written a note in careful script, describing her appearance and giving a time and place for the pair to first meet. It seemed logical to her, and if she was going to be stood up she could at least imagine the note had never reached him. She would have taken initiative, and that was that. She refused to admit the truth: that she was a bit scared.
Unfortunately, the note would never make it under Joachim's door. While Taryn planned to leave it within the next couple of days, her escort seemed to have much different ideas...

A club? Taryn's first real club. For all the ghoul was nervous, she was excited. Now she could meet Roch's love interest in earnest, and spend time with people who had similar hobbies. Mummy and Deadie would be so disappointed if they knew that she was taking part of an after-school program that wasn't achademic.
...but who said they had to know?
The chimera left her room with steely resolve. Maybe she could hook up with Roch there and discuss the club, or baking, or nothing in particular. She was well on her way to being more social, she though, and that felt incredible.
