] Rose shook her head as an obvious answer. "I can only stay in the castle, remember? This is actually my first time past it's walls." She usually spent most of her days being tutored about useless subjects such as history and plate arrangements as part of being a princess. However, there are some day's she was able to sneak off and learn how to fence, ride a horse, and read some books of her own interest.

"Ah, that is unfortunate. Say, I know it might seem irresponsible of me to do so, but would you rather we take the long, scenic route to the tower?" Alex asked, figuring there was no harm in getting to the tower a few days or weeks late, it wasn't like Rosalyn would be in any danger while he was around, plus the girl would probably enjoy getting to experience new things. Yeah, whatever, you're only saying that because you wanna spend more time with her, maybe even get under that dress of hers. A little voice snickered from inside Alex's head.

"Oh! Could we?" Rose asked, actually getting excited about seeing other sites besides stone and brick for god-knows-how-long inside a tower. It would be much more entertaining than just going straight through on the regular, bland road. And she had one of her father's best knights with her. What could go wrong?

Upon hearing Rosalyn's excitement over the idea, there was no way Alex could say no. "All right then. I suppose we could head for the nearest town and plot out the new course since it is kind of hard to do it while riding a horse." Alex said sheepishly. If his memory was right, then the small village of Bedford was nearby and he and Rosalyn could stop in so Alex could check the map.

Rose sat up straighter, looking around for the next possible town so that she could get off and stretch for a bit before going off to see what the rest of the world looked like beyond the castle walls. She had gotten a bit of her kingdom's geography down, since she had been studying for quite a lot, but never really expected to use it. Now it would have been useful to know her surroundings.

"Relax Princess, the next town won't be for another hour or so." Alex said with a chuckle, noticing Rosalyn's sudden change of posture. "If you absolutely need a break, don't hesitate to tell me please." Alex said and then began thinking of polite ways to ask a princess if she needed to go to the bathroom. Then he stopped because he figured there was no way a girl, let alone a princess would ever relieve herself outdoors.

"Oh" Rose said sitting back down, a bit disappointed and failing to catch what he said. "At least the scenery is nice" she said with a sigh, still in awe at the wonders of nature around her. The closest she's ever gotten to nature was in the castle's garden where everything was too perfect for her tastes, so this was a sight for sore eyes to her. "You're my father's best knight, no?" she asked, remembering out of the blue "What have you done to deserve such a title?" There were countless things a person could have done to be awarded the title of a knight, such as saving a person of political position, slaying a dragon, bringing back a rare treasure, etc.... but Rosalyn might as well learn to get to know more about her knight escort.

"Well, it takes years of training to be a knight, many years more if you aim to be the best. I'd say the thing that really earned me the title was storming a mountain fortress, killing all the pirates and slavers within, which involved killing the two trolls they were using to terrorize the area." Alex said thoughtfully, remembering the day he had come back covered in dried blood with the head of the lawless band's leader in his hands as he delivered his final report.

"That was...you?" Rose was actually surprised. This was the first she's heard of it. She only remembered the part where he was actually knighted, but not what he had done to earn such a title. "I guess you should have been the one to guard my door that other night then. Perhaps if you did, so many men wouldn't have to die." Her voice dropped slightly, remembering seeing the blood stained hallway when she opened the door at the noise of the commotion, her screaming and then blackness when she fainted. Being a daddy's little girl and the 'perfect little princess', Rosalyn didn't think she'd have to see the sights of blood so soon, though she knew she'd experience it eventually in case war or demonstrations were to be called upon.

"True, but you can't change the past, you can only hope for the future." Alex said, he felt bad, not about killing those men, they were in the way, but he felt bad because now the Princess had to be locked away. But at least this way, I'll get to spend time with her without anyone getting in the way. Alex thought to himself, thinking of being separated from the Princess stirred up some very dark feelings within the knight.

"I wish that were so..." Rose didn't want to stay locked up in a tower for so long. The lack of human contact, the tiny living space she was going to be confined in, even prisoners had it better. "I hope this trip will be an enjoyable one before I have to be locked up in that dreadful tower" she said with a light tsk "As if it weren't done before."
