=====>> “It’s cold again today, isn’t it?” Dasoku asked himself out loud. It shouldn’t be too surprising, since it was cold everyday. But today, seemed colder than most. He sat over by the open door with a lit pipe as more snow slowly drifted down. The departure of his beautiful Flower, Clementine, had only been earlier that week. The times she was there, how could he have not noticed her growing illness? Her smile shone much brighter than the sun did in the north, and more pure then the freshly fallen snow. But because of that, the sunlight blinded him from the line of reality and the dreams. The smoke coming from the pipe melted into the white scenery of the garden in his back yard, almost always covered in snow. Two months of spring and summer were no match against the brutal frost of winter all ten months, same to his love. He looked over to his side, an unfinished letter for her. He readjusted the pipe in his mouth before beginning to search the words to end his letter to her:

My dear wife,

All that I can say, is that I'm sorry. Even though our time together has been brief, I will still cherish every moment together. I have sent you down to where you truly belong, in the land of the sun. Flowers in the snow just can't last forever. I shouldn't have taken you to a place I knew you wouldn't survive, and I regret that, but I don't regret loving you. Our meeting's fate had been sealed the moment we said our vows to each other, that we could never be together. It would be best that you move on without me, be happier without me. Please remember that I will always love you, you were the only person who added warmth into my life. Since the day of my birth, my home has always been cold, and since the day I met you, I was reborn into a warm, sun-filled world, and for that, you have captured my sight that will never leave you. It seems the only way to express the rest of my love are through these letters and my gifts to your family, but that can only scratch the surface of what lies beneath the true feelings of my heart. I pray everyday, for your good health, so please, get well quickly. If it means for your well being, then I will no longer see you. If the amount of my strong feelings are the only thing that hurts you, then I will give up being with you. I will understand if you hate me for this, or even if you don't write back, it'll be all right.
Please remember as you are moving on, that I love you. Even if another man loves you more, I still love you.

With all my endless love,

User Image

Dasoku almost didn't notice the single tear drop onto the paper, smudging the ink a bit as he touched his eyelashes, feeling the warm tears and rubbing them away before tying the letter shut with a string. He almost didn't have the heart to send it out now that he had written it out as he blankly stared down at the closed sheet of paper, as if it was all but a dream. Eventually, a large snowy owl, a pet one might call it, though it was still wild, flew over onto a perch Dasoku kept for it whenever it visited. He gently tied the letter around the owl's leg before telling it a one-worded command of where to go: The town's name, Taiyō( no kuni), or "(Land of the )Sun". It wasn't the bird's first trip, as it was almost tame and listened to him before it flew off, a bit uneven with the weight of the letter, but it would stand the harsh cold winds. Dasoku sighed again, as he was alone once more with nothing but snow, ice, and silence, thinking of those warmer, happier days with his Flower.

[Gawd, I'm like bawling my eyes out already. ;___; It's worse than when I was in Arrest Rose. ]

_____ Yuki had no ideas on how to cheer up her brother, and that was the extent of things. The house was dark and cold and Dasoku was in a constant depression. She missed the bright girl who had become her sister in law only a bit ago a swell. She’d told wonderful stories about her home in the South, about the bright light and warm air.

Seeing her breath fog out in front of her, watching the frost on the trees, Yuki wondered if such a place could even exist.

Still, she was warm in a sense. She had her coat on and her snow boots, and she was wandering around the front yard to see if there was anything to do. There wasn’t, of course. Knowledgeable to that fact, Yuki put her mitten covered hands to her face and blew, warming up her nose. If she couldn’t find something to do, she’d at least make sure she wasn’t surrounded by silence. The girl hummed quietly to herself and continued on her trek around the front yard, though there wasn’t much left to see now. It was a blank white expanse at the moment, broken by the gray of her footprints and the occasional shadow from a covered shrub or trunk of a tree.

Yuki followed the small snow-covered stone path around the house toward the back, aware that she wouldn’t be alone there. Her humming chased away the silence before her, leaving a quiet path. Quiet was nice. It wasn’t dead like silence, or obtrusive like noise. Quiet just meant that you weren’t alone. And if anyone needed to know that they weren't alone, it was her brother. She could see him sitting by the open door, probably with his pipe. Instead of interrupting his thoughts, Yuki merely folded herself into the garden, looking at the dormant plants and their crystal patterns. They were sleeping, at the moment, but ice grew over them and froze into delicate shapes that you could imagine were a garden all their own.

Though Clementine had felt better then she did up in the south, she was still gravely ill. Her family watched over her, worrying constantly about her well being. Though she was sick, she did her best to stay optimistic, especially for her family. Sadly, her husband seemed so very sad and alone but she also felt the same. Being separated from him made her feel like she had lost some of her warmth. The days were long, but the nights were long without having Dasoku by his side as before. They did not know one another too long yet she had grown so fond of him and her love grew every day. Now she was too far from him and she missed his smile, she missed everything about him. Flower didn't mind the cold what so ever, but her body simply refused to tolerate it and she fell ill, but deep down, Clementine felt that it was more then just the whether.

As she laid in bed, she wished to go outside to soak in the sun but she was far too weak to stand. Slowly, she sat up and looked around her room which seemed dull for some reason making her frown. As she opened her mouth to call for her mother, a violent wave of coughing came out instead and it hurt her greatly. When she removed her hand from her mouth, she saw blood, probably due to her throat. Sighing, she watched her mother run in since the coughing was very loud. Flower assured her mother that she was fine and soon her mother left her be again. She sat there again, alone and unsure what to do now. Soon enough though, a familiar flower flew into her window and sat itself on the night stand by her bed. Smiling, she took the letter from his leg and began reading it. The smile on her face had faded and she sat there silently. All she did was grab a piece of paper and replied.

Dearest Husband,

I felt such a lift of my spirit when I received your letter, but as I read it, my heart faltered and I could not help but cry. How I wish I could make you understand my love for you and how I wish to be with you. I blame this illness for keeping us a part but I blame myself when it comes to how you are feeling. Before I left, I should have expressed that you are permanently in my heart and that I do not wish to be with anyone else but you. My chest is in knots as I write this, as I think about how lonely you must be. I should have been stronger, I feel as if my love was not strong enough to shine through the winter. Though I do not doubt my love for you, I simply feel that I was beaten so easily down by the simple elements of our earth. How I wish I was far stronger then before.

Please know that I am doing my best to get my health back and that when I do I will return, stronger and I will surly beat down the weather then let it beat me down again. If I were unable to see you again, I'd rather have this illness take my life now, for you have my heart and without you, I fear that it will simply wither and die like a flower being neglected by its possessor. My darling, my love, do not give up. I beg for you not to give me up so easily. Fight along side me so that when we meet again, it will be a joyous reunion.

With all my heart and soul,
Flower

When she finished her letter, she tied it to the bird and she too knew the commands to his bird though the owl was more resistant with her. She smoothed his feathers before watching it fly off, back up the mountain where the letter would soon reach her new love. All she could do now was lay back down and continue her fight with this unknown illness.

[A]pollo huffed as he thought about Clementine, how she had called out for the man that was not there. How could that man have dared to send her away? If she had to return to the south, that man should have returned with her! He did not deserve her! Apollo stormed angrily toward the door of the home he had been told belonged to the man, outraged by everything that had happened. Not only had Clementine been sent to marry this man, but she had fallen ill and the man had not followed her back. Apollo's fists thrust the door open, and he spoke loudly and angrily. "HOW DARE YOU!" He exclaimed, barging into the house. "How dare you send her home without following! You do not deserve her!" Apollo did not even pause to check that he was being heard. He was too angry. After he had said those few sentences, he waited for the man's response, giving him a chance to explain himself.

=====>>Dasoku breathed the sweet incense of the smoke deeply before letting out a long, slow breath. He hadn't smoked his pipe for a long while now. It seemed to upset Clementine, so he stopped. But now, without her by his side, old habits clung to him along with his depression. However, he switched out the thick tobacco with something sweeter, to remind him of her. The intoxicating scent caused him to daze out for a bit, numbing the pain for a second before a loud ruckus was made from the front of the house and he stood up to see a man rampaging through his house like a mad bull. "What is the meaning of this?" he barked out for command in his own house as he stood up and walked over to the area the man had torn through to see him. "You demand for answers and dishonor me in my own home? Have you know shame for yourself?" At the moment, he didn't want to think of her, in fear for her response in her letters, or worse, if she didn't write back at all. "And who are you?" Dasoku asked with his calm cool expression. "First you have better check yourself before I put you in check" his voice lowered, a threat. He didn't deserve to be treated like this in his own home, even after his own cowardly feat of having to send his wife back. If he had to explain himself, he had no reason but that he was tied to the house by invisible bonds of honor and his family's name. If he were to leave, everything would fall apart and he would be left with nothing. His life revolved around his home, and without it, he would not be able to help Clementine at all.

There was no way that Clementine could rest now. The letter she had gotten from Dasoku made her feel so upset and so worried for him. Clementine felt that she had to do something for him because even though he was thousands of miles up, she could still feel the pain he was in. It took her half an hour to get out of bed and another half an hour to get dressed. Her body was weak and she had developed another fever which added to her fragile state. None the less, Clementine was determined to head back to her husband and fight this illness with him. She loved him dearly and she felt that if she could be happy with him, then perhaps her illness would fade way, like the sorrows in both their hearts.

Soon, Clementine went over to her bedroom door and swung it open. Her parents were not insight and her siblings were asleep on the couch. Slowly, she crept out and made her way to the front door but she could feel her body beginning to tremble from the strain she was putting it through. Before she could even come near to the door, another violent wave of coughs hit her, causing her little brothers to wake up. She braced herself against the wall but ended up on her knee's with one hand on the floor to keep herself from falling over. She continued to cough and once again she could feel blood on her palms. Worse of all, was the fact that she was beginning to lose conscious. One of her brothers ran off to get her parents while the other stood by her, keeping her upright and telling her to stay awake. It pained such a small child to watch his sister go through something like this. His little body trembled, not only from holding her upright, but from fear and sorrow.

Clementine looked at the small boy and though his face was blurry, she could see the tears streaming down his face. What made her feel sad was the moment he muttered to her, "don't die". Her heart constricted from such words coming from such a small boy and his tears were like stabs to her heart as well. Before she could comfort the boy, her mother and father ran in, helping her up and leading her back to her room. Clementine tried to protest, saying she wanted to go back. She pleaded for them to take her back to Dasoku but they ignored her and put her back where she had been laying for weeks.

Once back in bed, Clementine simply cried herself to sleep, from both the pain she was in and the sorrow filled in her heart.

[A]s the other male spoke, Apollo realized just how bad his temper had gotten. "I apologize, but I am concerned for Clementine's health. It is your fault she's sick, after all." He spat, the apology not the nicest there was. "As for who I am, I am Apollo Fiore - and I've known Clementine since we were kids." His eyes looked over the man. "I still want to know why you did not come with Clementine. She called your name in her sleep, even though you didn't care enough to come back with her." Apollo stated angrily, still upset about the entire situation. As far as he was concerned, she should have called out for him, as he was the one that sat by her bedside as she was ill. But no, she called out for her husband, the man that had not even bothered to come down with her.

_____ Yuki saw her brother rush along into his house at the sound of raised voices. In the stillness of the garden, the younger sister froze and turned her body fully toward the door. She could not see the source of the sound, or the face of her brother as he yelled in response. At his yelling, however, she did move. Her rush made her leave the garden and enter the house as well, pulling down her hood so that she could see.

Inside the house she could see her brother's back, and the face of a man she'd never seen. He introduced himself as she walked in, and she watched him curiously. His skin was obviously touched by the sun, as Clementine's had been; and his hair looked like the sunset had fallen on his brow. Apollo, he said? Well, this Apollo asked too many questions of her brother. He'd been in pain ever since his wife left, and this man had no right, friend of Clementine's or not, to say that Dasoku did not care.

"You have no right to say my brother does not care." Yuki's quiet voice might have been lost in the room had she not come so close to the arguing men.

The girl crossed her arms, clasping her sleeves closed at the ends of her coat. The chill was usual for her, and she knew it's bitterness, but she'd never heard it in her own voice. Her response must have been so different because of the difference in the room. Nothing like Apollo had ever entered the house, unless you counted Clementine. The Southern man was nothing like her brother. Fire haired, browned skin, and piercing yellow-green eyes. Nothing like him existed in the mountains. Certainly she was nothing like him; pale and small and with hair like-frost. It suited her, though. And this man did not suit her brother's house.

[A]pollo turned when he heard another voice, his face softening. There was no way he could yell at a female, even as bitter sounding one as this. His face turned from one of fiery anger to one of gentle warmth as he looked at her softly. "I am sorry, but I wish to know how it is possible that someone who cares can just send away the one they care about. It does not make sense to me. Now, if he had followed, I could believe he cares. However, he did not follow, so there is no way I can believe that he cares without express proof." Apollo's eyes turned again to the man, taking deep breaths. Something was apparent behind his voice, a passion for what he was doing that was more than one expected from just a friend. His heart beat softly, only here because of the effect of the man in front of him on his Clementine. It was not fair; she should have called out for Apollo. She should have been thrilled to have him back by her side. It hurt to see her so ill and calling out for another.

Apollo had never seen Clementine so ill when she had come back. His heart had broke just to see her go; seeing her come back sick had torn it to shreds. He could not take the fact that Dasoku had just sent her home, like she was a broken toy to be sent back to the manufacturer. In Apollo's eyes, Dasoku should have accompanied her, seen her well. He should not dare call himself her husband after sending her away on her own. Apollo just wanted to have her to himself, but...he knew he had to do this before he could ever make things right. He would have to rectify this situation just to get what he wanted in another. He could not stand it, but it was what needed to be done.

=====>>Dasoku glanced over to his sister before turning back to the man from the south who had recently introduced himself as Apollo. “Yuki, go back home” he said firmly with his back towards his sister. He didn’t want to involve his sister in something like this. She didn’t deserve to feel any feelings of pain, she was just an innocent little snowflower, and he had to preserve it as his parent’s wishes. Sadly, he couldn’t protect his most precious Sunflower from the cold, and all he could do was watch it wilt away helplessly. As always, he kept his calm and cool, like the weather and only exploded when things didn't go according to what was predicted. "Of course I care for my beloved. Do you think I chose to live up here by choice? That I deliberately wanted her to grow ill?" Dasoku looked away in painful memories of sending her away. "I am bound by this house and it's duties. Without it, neither of us would survive. I want her to at least live her life, even without me...I will continue to love and support her, from a distance. I do not wish to worsen her health if it means being with me." Of course, he wasn’t speaking so literally, but his home wasn’t enough to shelter her, and his love didn’t burn bright enough to warm her, and all that did was worsen her health. Perhaps their love was doomed from the start, but Dasoku chose to ignore it, and this was his punishment.

[I guess I forgot to mention, but the sister’s role is to also find some way to get Dasoku and Clementine back together since she’s pretty much got all of Dasoku down. ]

[A]pollo waited patiently as the other man spoke to the young girl. Dasoku's sister, apparently. She seemed so innocent; she did not seem to know anything of what was going on. Apollo deemed he would remain silent for a few moments and allow Dasoku to decide when they were to resume. His eyes looked at Dasoku again when the other male spoke. Care? How could he care? "How are you so bound? Why could you not have followed? She wanted you to stay by her side, and you just sent her away, not accompanying her." Apollo said angrily, insulted that this man had not followed Clementine. How could this man have loved Clementine and let her just go? Apollo would follow her to the ends of the earth if he could. Of course, when it had been his turn, he could not...it would have only hurt Clementine.
