~OPEN~
Katherine, Katie, sat down in the back of the old arcade watching others play. She wasn't even sure why she was here, she wasn't playing she was just watching right now which was something she really didn't enjoy. She preferred playing to just watching. She just was too excited, she didn't know what to do with herself and this was the best option. She didn't like waiting at home, and this was better than that, so she had paid the three dollar watching fee (five to play) and came to sit in one of the few chairs. She sighed as she glanced at her watch quickly, it was 4:15, still too early to walk over to the new arcade. She still couldn't believe that she had been chosen to participate in the new beta testing of the new arcade. She was a down right horrible player, she had thought that only really grand players ever got to do that. Thinking of the popular players she glanced at the large poster off to the side, where a long list of names were written. Not real names of course, just their players names. She looked down at the bottom of the list, she was just in front of a couple players who didn't show up that often. She ran his fingers through her hair before taking out a band and using it to make a ponytail. It was a low one, she didn't have much hair to work with, and it was just a tiny puff with her bangs hanging over her face. The arcade she was in now wasn't that bad of a one just tiny and old. A large playing screen was in the front so that those who wanted to watch could, but most of the players payed the extra buck to rent the goggles that would help them to see the game in 3-D. They spent another dollar for the crappy headsets, or even brought their own. The controller they used, they paid for in the original fee. Katie blew at her bangs as she glanced around the eight rows of long benches, but couldn't really tell who anyone there was. She recognized their characters, not them. Katie finally stood up, seeing from her watch that it was now 4:35, and pulled out her gamer card for this arcade. She swiped it as she left, letting the owner now she had only watched, and began to walk slowly down the street. As she put away her card, she pulled out the invitation, reading it over again. She couldn't help but think it was just a joke. She ran her finger over the golden print of the card, and the little designs around it before putting it in her pocket and pulling her thin jacket tighter around her. She wasn't good with cold and wished she had worn more than her blue jeans, a black thigh length jacket, and a cream colored long sleeve shirt. She began to fantasize about what game they would play and the technology the new arcade would have as she strolled along.

Katie continued to walk down the street, just thinking and imaging and not at all paying attention to her surroundings. It took her a bit to walk to where the new arcade was and stood in front of it, glancing at her watch again. 4:53, not too bad. There was a small crowd in front of the building, most holding their invitation in their numb hands. The building was long, tall and sleek, with windows littering the front of it. Freshly trimmed grass, and a new walkway made it seem more like a government building than a place to game. She watched as the doors opened and people began to rush inside. Soon enough Katie got caught in the crowd and was lost to all else. The thing about being short was when surrounded by people, you couldn't see anything and you couldn't get out of the damn near mosh pits. She let herself go with the flow until finally they got to a open area and she didn't have to worry anymore about being squished. Suddenly a woman stepped in front of her, asking for her invitation. Katie gave it up instantly and was suddenly being ushered to a room. This room was very small, with what seemed like a dark window on one wall and a very impressive looking suit, helmet, and other things off to the side. While the opening room had been impressive with it's long counters, and kind staff, this room was intimate and longing, just waiting to be played in. The woman kindly asked Katie for her wrist and she held up her right one, watching as a thick metal bracelet was attached. It was explained that this was like a gaming card, it would hold all the data from the arcade and such. "Are you ready to start getting suited up?" The helper asked in a sweet voice. Katie licked her bottom lip, looking at the dark window (TV she realized now), high tech outfit, and bracelet. "Yes. Yes I am."

With the help of the woman, Katie got into the suit. It was silver, a bit heavy, and fit her perfectly. She wondered how, she was rather short and small everywhere but ignored it. She put on the gloves and then the belt before slipping on the helmet and the women pressed start. A rather elaborate opening screen with music came on, before it went all white and a women with wings coming out from on top of either ear (who was sitting on a cloud mind you) appeared in front of her. "Welcome to the game. The first step you will have is choosing your character. What would you like to be?" Katie jumped a bit as a screen appeared to her side, covered with names of creatures. There was typical fantasy races and classes, like dwarf and warrior, but some more odd ones like half cat and such. Katie bit her lip as she thought and finally picked warrior. A suit of armor was suddenly next to the lady and Katie looked over it. "You can now pick wither you want to change your looks." Suddenly what looked to be like Katie, filled the armor. Another option list showed up and Katie didn't really care what she looked like. She looked through it anyway but perked up as she came to height. She added a few inches to her height and squealed happily as she looked at herself. She clicked finished. "You will now be transported to the home base. Have fun gaming." Everything flashed black, then white, and finally she could see where she was. It looked to be an old style town, all wood and such, and a couple people were milling around. A few she could tell were players, while the ones who obviously weren't had a soft glow around themselves. Katie took a curious step forward and then nearly fell over. My goodness, why could she not move very well? She took another step and blushed as she heard a 'Clank, Clang, Clank' as she moved. It was her armor. Why was it so noisy?

She had a sword. Armor, and a sword. That was it? Katie huffed angrily while looking at the sword in her hand. The sad thing now, was this game seemed to relay on her ability at things, not completely the character. She didn't know how to use a damn sword. She slipped her sword back in it's holder, and then walked (clanked) to a shop. She stood outside of it, and drooled at what she saw in the window. She saw a more lightweight armor, and drooled over it. She bet that that was more silent. She looked down at the price and nearly fainted. 800,000 gold? A little box appread next to the price, with the number 3,000. How was she gonna make all that money? She stamped her foot angrily, jumping when someone spoke next to her. "If you don't have money for what you need you can go to the quest board or the pub to accept challenges for money." A NPC said to her, smiling happily. Katie stared at it before smiling back, nodding and quickly walking away. She didn't know why the NPC's now seemed to creep her out so much. She began to search for the quest board.
