It only seemed to take the girl one failed round before she jumped up and threw out a card that slashed through a number of creatures.
She would win this round. She had to.

Damage: 9+ 1= 10
Wave 1: CLEAR

Or maybe not...
A creature bit the witch's ankle and she momentarily flailed and forgot to attack as she kicked her leg in attempt to wrangle the creature free.

HP: 31
Damage: 0+1= 1
Wave 2: FAIL.

Now that she was free of the ankle-biter, Belladonna sent out another wave of cards and cleared another wave of creatures.
Finally.

HP: 28
Damage: 13+1= 14
Wave 2: PASS

Feeling a little better now that she FINALLY passed a round, Belladonna struck out another wave.
Getting easier all the time! Whew!

HP: 25
Damage: 8+1= 9
Wave 3: PASS

Once again, the witch could see the creature getting closer the more she fought.
I remember this last time... The witch thought as she demolished another wave. I feel like I might get stuck like this... Repeating the same thing over and over.
It was a harrowing thought, and one she hoped was wrong because if that's what happened... She might just watch herself die over and over again.
That would be just torture...

Damage: 6+1= 7

The witch could see the monster looming over her and knew it was close. Just one more hit should do it with these nasty creatures!
With a scream, the witch threw out five cards that quickly destroyed the creatures in her path.
"Whoops...Maybe should have saved that for the boss..." Belladonna mused as she looked over her handiwork.

HP: 18
Damage: A TON. No really, just 19
Wave 5: PASS

This time though, the witch refused to let the same thing undo her. This time she took an adequate amount of time to properly heal herself. There was still a small cut that hadn't healed, but it would do for now.
It was certainly much better than last time!

HP: 38

The music around her swelled suddenly and Belladonna took a step forward to try this again. Hopefully it would only take a few turns before the Death creature was dead, but the witch could only hope as she sent a card flying toward it.

Damage: 4+1= 5
Boss HP: 45

As she launched another card toward the creature, a pang of panic struck her as this all seemed so familiar. She had just been here, just tried to defeat this monster and had failed.
With that worry, the card faltered and barely scraped the monster while she took a full hit.

The panic didn't fade, but it did spur the witch on a bit. She tossed another card at it and landed a better hit, but still not exactly what she needed.
She'd really have to step up this fight if she hoped to win.
Maybe she was destined to repeat this battle over and over...

Another attack form the creature knocked Belladonna back and with a shout of surprise, she realized just how very tired she was. This was not going well and already she was starting to loose hope...
She launched another card and it hit well, but just how much more of this could she endure?

It was just no good. No matter how she tried, Belladonna just couldn't get herself motivated to fight. She just kept remembering the last fight and how miserably that had gone...

She had wanted to fight harder, she had wanted to win... So maybe a little of that showed up when she tossed another card at the monster and it let out a small noise of pain, but it still hit the witch. And she cried out louder than it did.

She wanted to give up, she wanted to just lay down and quit, but something within the witch made her stand up one last time and throw three cards at the monster. It let out a earth-shaking groan that made the witch fall to her knees. She couldn't get up, but neither could the monster it seemed...
The irony of it all almost made her cry.

She had done it. She had managed to throw one last card and defeat the monster, but the monster had shot its own attack and destroyed her too. As the darkness closed around the witch, she couldn't help but think she should have been given at least one wish from all this.
