They wanted to...what?

He retracted his hand away from the witch, bellowing not at the slice to his hand but at the zombie who boasted something so foolish, so impossible. Faster than before he lunged forward to rend this useless, s**t pile of flesh into nothing, the mist growing darker with his rage.

PROTECT HOME.

His over hand swung around to catch Alexander with a second blow, eyes narrowed in fury. Die, die, die, DIE, DIE, DIE - !

Well, he'd managed to do what he intended on when Mort turned away from Belladonna, now focusing his full attention on Alex. It was enough to send a shiver down Alexander's spine, having those glowing blue eyes focused soley on him, and he knew he was in for a world of hurt...but that was okay, he could handle a little pain, or even a lot of pain. That's what zombies were good for, after all.

Pain lanced through his body when the insanity Mort struck out at him, jolting him from head to toe, making him crumple to his knees as he clenched his teeth shut, eyes narrowing into a glare up at Mort's crazy face. "That's right, gonna burn it allllll down." His voice was strained, but his Fear was responding to the threat, coursing through him, gathering in a dim haze of green that rippled over his body and gathered in a writhing mass around his hands before it shot out in an explosion of rank smelling gas that surrounded the fog monster.

Fog inside a fog. It was fogception.

"Now Belladonna! Quick!" He pushed himself back to his feet, and got ready to lunge in for an attack. Hopefully they would be able to get a couple of hits in while the fog was too disoriented to fight back.

Alexander lunged forward. While he could still clearly see the mass of fog, now surrounded by a haze of green, Mort would probably have trouble seeing them (or at least, that's what he hoped). The zomboil threw a fist out, connecting with any part of his former zombro that he could reach, and hoped that Belladonna would do the same from her end.

Absolutely unhinged from being able to keep herself in check, the witch let out a terrified shriek as Alexander was so forcefully knocked down. Both hands smacked against her mouth in attempt to stop the noise, but she felt frozen in place. What else could she do to help?!
For a moment longer she stood there, eyes wide as she stared at the two zombies. This shouldn't be happening, they were friends, best friends and why hadn't either of them be enough to fix this? Why was everything always so wrong?
Before Belladonna could lament further, a green mist began and Alexander shouted at the witch. Unwilling to breath the witch instead snatched a card from her circle and pressed it to her heart.
"I am so sorry, darling."

With a flick the card soared into the mist before it quickly materialized into the hulking shape of the Death Knight. The knight landed with a thud on the ground, turned its skeletal gaze at the mist monster and hefted its lance up. With a snickering noise it struck at Mort before it stepped back toward the witch and dissolved back into a card. The last time Belladonna had done that it had harmed her darling far more and been much more visceral. Lances were something she knew he hated, and though it was awful, she hoped that the production of this weapon now might keep him at bay, if only for a few rounds. This time she could only hope it gave the pair the edge they'd need to wear him down. Even with the two of them, it felt as though this fight would drag on forever.

"Good job, Belladonna!" Alex called out to her when he caught a glimpse of the armored and skeletal figure that went in for the attack against Mort. Surely he would be nearly weak enough for them to use the vial on soon....

But no, even that mist monster he and Mac had fought earlier had taken a sound beating, and still had nearly killed them both. These beings of insanity, they were far more powerful then one student alone. But together..well, hopefully Alex and Belladonna would be able to do enough to stop him.

The noxious gas Alex had used in his attack was beginning to fade away, disappearing back into the atmosphere, leaving behind only a rancid stench that too would fade in time. He needed to act again, and quickly, before Mort got his bearings back and could attack them again.

He moved forward again, and boldly drove a fist forward, throwing as much strength behind it as he could muster.

The monster hissed and seethed as its targets disappeared behind a rank green miasma, swiping at thin air as he turned this way and that to locate the loathsome insects who kicked at him so pitifully -

And then something struck him so squarely from behind that the creature was forced forward into the wall, destroying the newly formed misty furniture as he howled in pain. A black smog vomited forth from the wound in its stomach as he turned about, hissing and twitching and very, very angry now.

L͟͠E̴̴̡ÀV̡E̸ HO̶M̧͜E!

The first one he saw would get its head torn off for this insolence. No-one could stop him from protecting Home, no-one!

A figure narrowed through the mists and dug an agonizing punch by its nearly rendered hole, but Alex's brash assault came at a price. Even as the beast staggered into the wall again, his fury gave him clarity of aim: the zomboil was snatched by his disfigured arm and brought up to eye level, where he was given what could have been a death grip once as the thing hissed and bared its shadowy teeth. And then Alex was promptly flung to the ground, where maggots belonged.

He was goig to be the only thing that would be destroyed today.

He knew he'd hit Mort hard, but just after he did so the green fog that he had created cleared up entirely, and once again he felt those cold blue eyes burning into him, angry with him. The zomboil tried to retreat, tried to back away before more wrath was brought down upon him, but his foot caught on something unseen on the floor, causing him to sprawl backwards just before a giant hand was grabbing him, lifting him high in the air.

Of course, he struggled. He raised both hands up to grip at the strong fingers holding him, attempting to pry them off, but it was to no avail. He soon found himself face to face with the hooded figure, one pale eye staring back at the two glowing blue.

"Mort---" He started to say, his voice almost pleading even though he knew it was no good to do so.

And then he was flying, and falling, hitting a wall before crumpling into a heap on the floor, his fear shield taking the brunt of the impact but his body still aching in ways it was not meant to. If it wasn't for his shield, he was sure his spine would have been broken. He was surprised that it wasn't, anyways, and that he was still able to twitch his limbs, still able to groan and slowly stagger back up to his feet.

"That all you got, buddy?" He mumbled, before staggering forward and kicking out at the creature, barely grazing it with his foot in his dizzied and disoriented state.

It was a shame the witch's magic was still so small and weak, as she knew if she had studied just a little harder, had worked a little more, that this battle would have been easier. But despite her studies, she was still loosing. They were still loosing and it was getting too close for comfort.
A sense of dread filled her as the green fog faded and left them vulnerable out in the open. It had stunk, but it had been cover, it had provided shelter for them to get a few more attacks in. Now they were unveiled and they had also made the Mist Mort very, very angry.
With a shout the witch tried to dive forward toward Alexander, to stop the monster from hurting her friend. But she couldn't see her feet, couldn't see the ground and miscalculated. Belladonna pitched forward, a ragged "NO! STOP!" bursting forth as she fell. A card was thrown, wayward in its path and only barely scraping the monster that had once been her beloved.

When the zombie hit the ground with a dull thud another shout exited the witch's mouth, but quickly turned into something broken.
"Oh Hecate, oh Hecate, oh batshit, Hecate!" The witch mumbled as she tried to push herself to her feet. "Alexander, oh Hecate, are you ok?!"
Finally up, hardly steady, but slowly getting angry, Belladonna glared at the back of the Monster Mort. For a moment she considered shouting, but instead kept her mouth shut. Something was wrong with her cards, The Moon was missing and without that card she couldn't heal. And that was very, very bad.

A vile sort of smugness emanated from the creature even with its expression hidden behind gray mists. But it wasn't enough: no, these intruders had to be eradicated completely in order to find his way back Home.

That thing was shouting again, however, and it was agitating his moment of success. So he battered her away with an idle hand, uninterested in her cries when the boasting bug was soon to be quashed. Nobody could threaten his Home and come out unscathed!

Mort was turning away from him, and back towards Belladonna. Nope, that wouldn't do. Nopenopenopenopenope! The zomboil took another lurching step forward, his head feeling slightly clearer now then it had before as he threw his skeletal foot out in another hit, Feeling this one connect with his target much more solidly.

"Hey! We aren't finished yet!" Again trying to distract Mort, to turn his attention away from the witch. "I believe we were discussing just how I am going to go about destroying your home. I still think fire is the best way."

His hand slipped into the front pocket of his shirt, fingers closing around the vial tucked away inside. If worse came to worse, he could still try it and hope, though it didn't seem as though Mort had become any weaker yet

The same paralyzing fear from before came over the witch as Monster Mort approached her, but this time she wasn't scared of hurting him. Alexander had said there was a way, that they just had to weaken him a little more and they could change him back. So when Monster Mort approached her, the witch straightened up and took the hit with more defiance than she previously had. It wasn't as hard as that first hit, but it still made her take a few teetering steps to the side. Stars still exploded in front of her gaze and she still let out a gasp at being struck.
In retaliation the witch threw another card at the monster, but it barely even struck him. If she didn't pick up her game quickly, this was not going to work. And there would be no amount of apologizing that would fix having lost Mort forever to the fog.

Their attacks were starting to wear on him, most especially the tear in its chest from the lance. But despite his waning strength, the creature snarled at Alex's continuing threats - the bleating of a sheep soon to be slaughtered.

Switching tactics, he swept his larger claws horizontally and slammed the pair together, the glint of teeth visible beneath its hood as it loomed over them and next sought to crush them both beneath his fist.

Welp, that really hadn't exactly gone as the zomboil planned. Insanity Mort had not been completely diverted away from attacking Belladonna, but was more then happy to deal with them both at the same time again, it seemed. Alexander cried out in surprise when one giant hand collided against him, pushing him along until he was sent crashing into the witch.

"Agh, NO! Enough!" He growled, as he disentangled himself from the reaper ghoul and surged forward, throwing his weight into tackling the fog monster, hitting him with the shoulder of one arm while the hand on his other withdrew from his pocket, fingers clutching the vial from within. Alexander was weakening, he knew that much. He was battered and bruised and could hardly manage to go on much longer. One more hit and he was a goner, he was sure. He had to do this now, or the opportunity to do so might be missed.

And so, he slapped his hand forward as well, and smashed the vial against what was once his zombro, and hoped to jack that this worked!

Loathsome, foul, evil little cockroach. The slam didn't have as much effect as last time, but it was enough to give the creature pause and growl at the interruption. Yet just as it was about to snap the thing's head off once and for all, something crushed against him.

And then the pain really and truly came.

The strange liquid burned through him as easily as if he was paper, and above the horrid sizzling he screamed and clawed at it, fruitless in his attempts to get it off - if anything, it spread the more he fought until eventually everything was was a mess of burning and shrieking down to his core. Slowly the creature dissolved and shrank to a more recognizable form, and when at last color had replaced every speck of gray and white and black, Mort slumped to the ground, curled in on himself, and grew silent.

Blood was made apparent around the very area the witch's knight had struck, but the gaping hole was nothing new to him; neither were the bruises left by Alex. This sort of pain, that which afflicted the body - he could handle that in spades. He could not, however, look at them, and instead the zomboil tucked his head down by his knees and trembled, in dull shock and gripping himself tightly. He was afraid that if he let go and looked up, he'd somehow find himself back alone in the mists again.

Because this had to be some sick dream. The whispers were going to come back, he just knew it, and he couldn't, wouldn't open himself up to their mind games; they could control his body and manipulate his mind, but if there was a shred of dignity left within him, he was going to cling to it with the fiercest of Death Grips.

There was no time to attack as the witch was swept up in the monster's claws and forced toward Alexander. With a squeak she brought her hands up in attempt to protect them both from colliding too painfully, but still they crashed. Another noise of discomfort escaped her, but when released she only fell to the floor and watched helplessly as Alexander jumped forward. Afraid and uncertain she watched as a small blue bit of glass was produced and subsequently smashed onto the monster.
As the fog began to dissipate, leaving the zombie behind, Belladonna rose unsteadily to her feet. The noise the monster made was horrid, enough that the witch pressed one hand to her ear, while the other waved away her cards. Just as they finally vanished, so did the rest of the fog. The shape left behind was familiar, as was the curled up form. The witch had seen this before, as much as she hated it, but like before there was only one course of action.

Frantic steps brought her over to the form, where she thumped to her knees next to him. Words tried to bubble up, but they all collided at once so her first noise was actually just a small note with no discernible meaning. Shaking hands hovered above the form, afraid her touch might honestly break their hard won victory.
"M-Mort?" Once again her voice shattered on the word, but she chanced one hand to touch the very edge of his shoulder. "Darling?"
So much was welling up within her, so much she wanted to say and do. But Mort looked so fragile and broken, covered up by the fog that the witch tried to brush away.
