[HH 2v2] One Last Time (Wilson/Jake/Shun/Xiu) FIN

Out of the corner of his good eye, Shun could see the blades coming at him. He started to move away, but it didn't stop them from biting into him a little. To the hunter's little bit of advice, he simply scoffed. But, he didn't retort. Not verbally anyway.

Instead, he stared the hunter in the eyes, then vanished, leaving nothing but a few smokey wisps behind.

He reappeared a number of times in various locations, to lash out, but his daggers were either blocked or dodged one way or another.

"Kuso.." he hissed under his breath as he landed several feet back. He realized his blunder, and he wasn't very happy with himself for it.

“Who do you think did that first?” he growled as he tried to swipe at the baku with one of his cannons, but in the end it was only Wilson’s mind playing tricks on his mind. The mist should have been to his advantage, but paranoia was slowly permeating his thoughts and actions. “We seek only a peaceful life and a means to return to where we once came. You are preventing that from coming true.” He was thrown backward by the sudden kick and he stumbled until his back was pressed against one of the walls. His breath hitched, but as his arms rested against the wall, he relaxed and he slowly got back to his feet.

“I guess you’ll just have to take a chance.” He grunted as he searched for her dainty figure of a shadow. It took him a few swipes, but eventually he managed to make contact with his target and he bludgeoned her with his cannons. “But to be honest, I just want you out of my sight.”

"Excuse me?" Xiu voice had risen to an incredulous pitch, her eyes narrowing in anger, "We never struck out first. Self-defense, protecting the civilians--those are our priorities!" Something was wrong, and the facts were obviously not lining up, but this fight continued to progress like a dream. As illogical as their arguments were, they were somehow simply brushed off to the side and ignored.

The strike winded her, sending her collapsing onto the ground with her arms wrapped tightly around her middle as she struggled to recover. Acting quickly, she tried to use her current position to her advantage, kicking out a leg in an attempt to sweep her opponent's legs out from under him.

"It looks like neither of us are going to back down." She chuckled, her words coming out as a pained hiss.

Xiu and the other hunter were still at it. Arguments he had heard before, but at this point, Shun wasn't sure if it really mattered. Not while they were in the heat of battle. It wasn't likely the hunters would back down. And they sure as hell won't.

Getting nicked again, he narrowed his good eye at the smug looking hunter he was fighting. Arrogant b*****d wasn't he? The Reaper thought that perhaps he should wipe that right off his face. Shifting forth, he aimed to stab him in the chest with one blade, then followed up with a slash right for his throat.

It wouldn't be fatal, he knew. But it would hopefully send a message. He was not to be trifled with.

Her words filled him with doubt at first, but then paranoia and a twinge of grief overtook Wilson. “No, you’re just lying. You’re thinking of making me let my guard down. I won’t fall for it. I will never fall for it.” His mind was growing as cloudy as the room as thin green mist continued to float around, but somehow his logic made sense. He was right. He was too afraid to dare to think he was wrong.

As she fell to her knees, so did Wilson. He shouted briefly as he fell on his back, the corners of his pack digging into his shoulders and back. The hunter hissed as he moved to stand back on his feet. “Yes, I suppose you’re right.” His tone was calm as ever as he pointed a canon at her. “Now it’s just a matter of who will fall first.”

Somehow, just somehow, she was able to justify that fighting this Hunter was the right thing to do. She was just trying to keep her friends and family--her people--safe, right? And this guy was a threat to that peaceful life that she was seeking. A small part of her mind did linger on the fact that he was fighting to protect people dear to him as well, but then it was washed away by a surge of power and anger.

She flinched at the new blast of poisonous gas, vaguely aware that the area around them was being filled with the misty substance. It was fine for the Hunter, considering that he was masked, but before long, there wouldn't be anywhere safe for her to run. Her eyes were already blurred with tears as they stung and watered, her whole body quivering. She had to work fast.

"Then let's just finish this," Xiu choked out, her voice a growl as she lunged forward and swung out a fist that was followed shortly after by another.

Shun had chanced another glance towards the others as well. They seemed to be on fairly equal grounds. Well that wasn't too bad. He could afford to focus more on his own opponent then. As his attention shifted back towards the other hunter, he was surprised as there were suddenly shadowy tendrils lashing out towards him.

He hopped back, trying to avoid them, but it didn't stop the things from grabbing a hold of him around the throat and constricting. Gritting his teeth, he soon let out somewhat of a strangled noise as he tried to fight off the shadowed tentacles.

It at least kept him from stabbing into the hunter again in the time being.

Somewhere in Wilson’s heart he could sympathize with the girl. She only wanted to protect those precious to her just like he did, but Wilson was drowning in uncertainty and an insatiable desire he still couldn’t quite put his finger on. Something inside him called for more, but what exactly it wanted was a mystery. It only screamed to be filled and it was only he who could satisfy it. Because his friends would only betray him again, just like always. He lurched forward, one arm over his stomach as the ill feeling returned. Wilson gritted his teeth. He would protect his friends, but they would just betray him ag—

He couldn’t even muster out an answer before he half-heartedly swung out at Xiu as she punched him.

Nothing else needed to be said anymore. Their arguing hadn't deterred them from fighting, but had only proven to provoke (and admittedly confuse) them even further. By this point, since neither of them were intent on backing down, it seemed that the only choice was to beat on each other until one went down.

And conveniently ignore the fact that perfect examples of the people they were fighting to protect and keep safe were punching each other nearby.

She flinched slightly at the punch at grazed her, and then bristled, her hand shooting out as she tried to grab him by the wrist and pull him over, swinging her knee up and towards his gut when he was close.

Eventually the shadows had gone away but during that time Shun had sustained some damage. He made a quick swipe at the hunter then backed away to try and catch his breath. He was going to need to be careful. The attacks of the hunter weren't particularly heavy, but he wouldn't be able to take them forever.

The Reaper rubbed his neck gingerly while staring down the bladed tonfa wielder.

A voice in the back of his mind told him he should be more tired and battered than he felt at the moment, but Wilson could still stand tall even as he received a hit to the stomach. [Get out of here. Now.] But it was just another voice to ignore as he clenched his teeth and stabbed Xiu with the blades on the ends of his canons.
