Newlyn tried drawing without looking first. She was used to continuously looking up while drawing, so it was hard for her to keep her eyes on the paper the entire time. She'd never drawn with a grid before, so she tried that next. Her grid was somewhat misshapen, so she ended up erasing it and just drawing the entire thing again.

Tanna walked into her now familiar classroom with her also familiar grin on her face. Seeing her students were all accounted for she walked over to her chalkboard and wrote out Sketching enchantments. Turning to face the class she looked over at her youngest sister, standing off to the side of the classroom looking uncomfortable, making eye contact to ensure she understood her needed help before starting. "Hello again students, I've been so impressed by you sketches and exercises over the past few weeks and as you can see I've hung a few of my favorites on the walls." she gestured to hung sketches from each pupil in the class before continuing. "Today we finally get into the magic behind art, enchanting your artwork. You don't get into enchanting portraits and statues until after your OWL's I'm afraid but you do get something equally fun with your sketches. But you can't just draw and expect it to work, it needs to balanced and placed in perfect perspective for it to work else you'd have a clumsy and very odd piece of art.
First, draw the background scene which your movements will take place in. If the background is to move as well draw the changes supposed to happen. For example, if you're riding down a road and want to sketch the passing scenery draw the trees, buildings, animals, etc. that passes you by.
Second, the person or object you want to move needs to have an objective, where its going, what its doing, etc. A ball rolling along a road after being thrown by a child, a quidditch player flying in the sky amid the bludgers and other players, things like that.
Third, draw these actions. I know it seems impossible but draw the the first and end results of these actions: the ball that was seemingly rolling along has a child finally catch up to it, the quidditch player catches the snitch or does a loop-de-loop, whatever your heart's desire.
And finally, the fourth and last step is the imagine the the movements that you want, the story if you will, lightly tap your sketch with your wand and speak the incantation: Concio. Since I don't own a wand I've asked Chantale to please demonstrate. Chantale?" Tanna looked imploringly at her sister who blushed at being placed in attention but stood and walked over to her sister who handed her a drawn sketch. It was a relatively medium sized one but it included all the students in her current class. The young Hufflepuff lightly tapped the parchment with her light colored wood and carefully spoke the incantation watching with wonderment as the children came alive to smile, wave or give a bored smirk in a generally familiar way of one particular Gryffindor. With a smile the young professor hung her now animated sketch (gently of course, wouldn't want to disrupt the teens), on the center wall of her classroom before turning back towards the class.
"Thank you Chantale for the demonstration, your note for your class is on the desk. Now you all are gonna attempt the same. It doesn't have to be a horribly complicated image just something simple enough for you to imagine. And for an added incentive, the first person to have made a successfully moving image will be awarded a prize and house points. You may begin!"

Newlyn might have been intrigued and enchanted by this lesson at any other time. Right now she was a bit of a wreck, but holding it together for the sake of this class, which she loved so dearly. Her pencil shook and smudged on her sketch pad as she attempted to draw two small girls picking flowers on a breezy, sunny day. But she couldn't seem to get their faces right, and her mistakes stood out glaringly to her discerning eyes. She kept her head down, determined not to let anyone see that she was on the verge of tears.

Tanna set up her classroom in the first few weeks she arrived back at the castle and was now waiting on the corner of her desk for her new set of Fourth Years. She had been thoroughly impressed and grateful for her last set and was eagerly awaiting the new. Seeing them arrive she greeted them with a smile and waited for them to take their seats before she began. "Hello and welcome to Art II, my name is Professor Ellis and I will be instructing you this year. To start the class we'll begin with the basics!" She went over to the blackboard and wrote in her curly script Basic lines and Figures.
"When you first start a sketch it is a good idea to lightly draw your lines in case you need to erase any later on. A big mistake a lot of people do when they first start the outline of a sketch is they typically press down to hard with their pencil thus creating a dark line and an indention in the paper. This will not only be hard to erase later on but may damage the paper because of the indention created. Start your sketch with a harder lead pencil or just not press down to hard when you’re doing the rough outline. Use basic shapes if you have a hard time drawing an object. When first learning how to sketch, most have a hard time getting the sketch to look like what they are drawing. One way to get your sketch started is to break down the drawing using basic shapes like so," Tanna picked up the chalk and drew an oval with four straight lines: three horizontal to depict the eye, nose, and mouth region while one going vertical to split the oval in half. She then drew a series of squares, rectangles and small ovals to depict eyes, nose, mouth, and ears.
"Another important measure to keep in mind is to visualize how you want your final drawing to look on your paper before starting your sketch in order to avoid coming too close to the edge of the paper or even worse, running out of room. Visually lay out how you want the sketch to look on paper then lightly draw the outline making sure to stay within an imaginary border. And finally, and most importantly, take your time when sketching. There is no time limit when it comes to creativity. I know sometimes you might get stuck, kind of like writers block, so instead of getting frustrated and feeling like you’re on some kind of schedule walk away – take a break. Come back when you feel better and if you still can’t get past that roadblock, set your sketch to the side and come back to it at a later date.
For the remainder of class I'd like you to do a basic sketch of your face and for homework I'd like you to find something, anything or anyone at all, to do a basic sketch over. The homework isn't graded its merely a tool to enable better understanding of what we do in class. When you're finished you may leave it behind or take it with you and leave."

XXXXXXX Whoah, what? They were gonna have to draw their own faces? And for homework… they would need to find someone or something to base their sketch? This class is more interesting that he thought. And there is only one person who would most likely draw. And right now she might still be knitting on some scarfs or some hats or something. His notebook was full of scribbles—but not entirely useless scribbles. The scribbles on his notebook were some kind of language only Xavier could understand. And it somehow enabled him to visualize the discussion, thus earning the needed memory just in case.

And now, off he worked on drawing his face. Copying what the professor drew on the board, he started with an oval and drew four lines and a vertical one—that looked slightly curved because he planned on sketching himself slightly facing the side and his eyes were looking the opposite way—that almost cut the oval in half, just like what she did. It’s just his face. He had seen it for a gazillion times already in his fourteen years of living. Surely he would remember his own face. Slowly, he began to lightly draw the circles for the eyes, his pencil making a line that looked almost invisible. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Then he began sketching the remainder of his face. Then started to draw lines for his hair; tousled and messy and all. Then his nose, who looked like an ordinary one for a male. Then his lips. He made himself look like he was giving off a lopsided grin. And somehow, he did a good job at it. At least he made it look like he was smiling. Then he finally drew the outline of the face; it has become a habit of his to leave the outline of the face last. But then, it might just be him doing that. Then he added the ears and made the necessary adjustments to the hair.

Finished with the activity, he walked over to the teacher’s table and set off his sketch. ”Professor,” he nodded politely and began to walk away, clutching his materials. Now to find his model.

Bradley sat there listening to the Professor. Art, his favorite and best subject. And something simple that he had learned prior to his time a Hogwarts was the lesson this week. He smiled and started on his sketch, Doing the facial structure with ease. He drew his hairline and his eyes, moving down to detail the nose of his self portrait. Then the lips and after that, adding on the snake bites. Drawing in his hair and shading the picture took the remainder of the class, but at the end he set a finished self portrait on the Professors desk. "Professor Ellis." he began. "I was wondering if it would be possible to hand in a dual portrait for the homework." he asked hopefully. A sketch of Me and Tobi would be perfect. he thought with a smile as he awaited the Professor's answer.

Tanna swapped between sitting on her desk watching her students to walking quietly around them as they drew offering help and advice when needed. She nodded and smiled as each one exited and handed in their self portraits noting which students took affinity to the art. She blinked when one such student asked if for the homework a dual sketch could be done making her grin enthusiastically. "Sure! If you feel that it won't be too much then go right ahead. Although, and not for grading!, I'd like to see the finished product." she asked almost giddily.

Already beginning her sketches as soon at the Professor instructed to do so, Serafina’s hair was rolled up in a messy bun, not really caring how she looked like. Art class was, perhaps, the only class where she could express her thoughts and emotions by scribbling lines and drawing. Right now she felt disappointed and hurt. Lisanna had, for unknown reasons, torn the letter she was supposed to send to her parents. Recalling the scene, Serafina was gaping at Lisanna as the owl gripped her letter with her talons and, slowly, ripped it into shreds.

Clenching her teeth, the Slytherin began drawing the basic lines for the face. Tracing the line of her face—based from complete memory—she continued to the upper part of her head. The part of her hair was already drawn, so she followed with the eyebrows, then to the eyes, then to the nose, then to the mouth. Now, all that’s left is the hair. Which turned out like a mess. Her hair was wavy, of course, but it looked like it was rough. Like a terrible wind had just passed through the portrait and whipped her hair to one side. Her eyes were ominous, semi-glaring at the one holding the paper—whoever it was. Her lips were slightly parted, as if she was drawing her breath sharply.

That was how she was feeling deep inside. Contented, she buried her face on his hands and groaned silently. Taking a deep breath, Serafina fell in line behind Bradley, a Ravenclaw. And, hearing his accepted request, brought an idea to her. What if she drew them? A small smile crept on her lips. She took a step forward and placed her work to the Professor. Giving a weak smile then shrugging her shoulders, she nodded politely then gathered her things. ”Ughhh, I look like a mess,” she groaned as she fixed all of her things. Nodding one last time to the professor, Serafina then exited the room and vanished through the corridors.

Tanna walked excitedly to her classroom eager for her second class with her older students. When all of them had settled in she grinned and went back over to the chalkboard writing in her same curly script: Sketching Techniques
"Welcome back, I hope you all had a great first week of classes. Now, last week we went over basic lines and figures so now we're moving on to technique. A good tip before we begin is to always make the outline light to start with. Use a soft lead pencil to draw the initial sketch with very light outlines. Use minimal pressure and make your lines just heavy enough so that you can see them. With light lines you can erase without leaving deep indentations in your paper. This is a nice little drawing technique trick to help you just in case you make a mistake or have to adjust something – which I guarantee you will. Now there are 5 excellent techniques to basic sketching:
One, Drawing Contours. In this exercise you basically pick an object whether it’s a picture or anything you can see and try to draw it without lifting your pencil off of the paper. Doing this will help you to be able to practice getting the proportions correct.
Two, Drawing Motion. Recording movement helps grasp the overall image. Try to draw the movement of the person or object you see. Do it quickly, don’t try to give it a finished look because these are just practice drawings!
Three, Drawing with a grid. This is an excellent exercise to give you a sense of proportion. Draw a grid on a blank piece of paper and then try to sketch an image on it. The grid will help you position the objects in the picture and also to make them proportionate. This is an excellent technique when sketching faces.
Four, Drawing in a continuous line. Another focusing exercise: put the pencil on the paper and try to reproduce what you see with a continuous line, without lifting the pencil. Try to focus more on the object, not so much on your sketching. You can do a figure eight or any continuous shape as long as you don’t have to lift your pencil from the paper.
And five, Blind drawing. Try to sketch what you see without looking at your drawing at all. This exercise helps you “feel” your tools and also improve coordination and focus.
For the remainder of class I'd like you to pick two techniques you'd like to begin with and attempt their exercises. There is grid paper available on all your desks if you would like to start with that one and pencils can be found on any surface of the room just in case you don't have one. For homework I'd like you to do the remaining techniques. If you have any questions or issues don't hesitate to ask me and when you're finished you're free to go."

spaceGypsy was grinning ear to ear when she arrived at the art classroom. She was still puzzling over the potion she'd brewed in her last class, but for now, it was a mystery to ponder later. Right now, it was time for what she generally considered her favorite class. Generally because, as she was reminded of when the professor began the lesson, she really did already know most of this stuff. It was sort of like an entire class of nothing but review, at least as far as the lectures went. But, when the lecture was over, she got to draw, which was awesome. The only thing that would've been better would've been getting to paint, after all. She really would've rather been sketching something other than her own face, of course, but whatever. She needed to get better at facial expressions, anyway. And, in the spirit of improvement, she sat herself at an angle from the mirror and flashed herself one of her most mischievous smiles. Unfortunately, when she finished the sketch, it wasn't quite right. She looked too... sweet, for starters. The mouth was all wrong. The eyes weren't much better. And gah, did her hair really look like that? She frowned, setting to work on trying to correct the errors, knowing that really, she'd never get it to look like her. It was a common problem with artists, after all. Maybe for her homework she'd sit down and sketch one of her friends and see if that came out better. If any of them could sit still long enough, that is. Hm... maybe she'd spy on Echo in the Common Room and try him. If he wasn't off snogging Kas, he'd probably be sitting relatively still, reading a book. Seemed like a viable option to her.

Tanna contented herself with reading at her desk, putting finishing touches on an art piece due in a few months, and gazing at the new adornment on her left finger. It was getting quite embarrassing talking to someone or painting or even sculpting then see the light glittering off her engagement ring which caused her to either become silent or stare at it in awe. It was completely irrational for her to become so deeply attached to a physical object and yet she already knew that until her wedding day that this would be her most prized and cherished thing besides the shared charmed necklace both she and her twin shared. She looked up from her gazing to see Gypsy frowning at her artwork and walked over towards it to view it. The metamorphagus was admittedly one of her favorite students, not counting her seventh years, because of her deep love and passion for art that rivaled her own. That and the fact that she thought she really was a sweet girl beneath her rather tough exterior. "Your sketch is very good Gypsy. You captured everything I wanted for you to practice, so why the long face?" she asked.
