I would suggest the Aveyond series (6 games, two are separate but linked, and then there's a group of four that follows one character, with references to the older games), but Sandlot seems to have been shut down, so my codes to get them from demo to full game don't work... They're download online games, and you buy them and get codes that are usable five times or something like that, but you can call, tell them hey, I'm redownloading this game, here's the code, and they'll do it Sadly, either I'm not going to be able to play them again, or, once I have them again, get them elsewhere and pay for them again Fuuuuuuuuuu

Dragon Quest IX for the DS has the option of having a female main character which you can customize. I am playing through with a female right now.
The remainder of characters in your party are extremely customizable (you pretty much make them yourself). In addition, through the wide variety of equipment options, you can customize your clothing as well. My current party consists of myself and three of the characters I write about.
The only bummer is that some equipment is only available from the online shop, which is hard to log into and may well be going away soon. And the alchemy system leaves a bit to be desired. If you're going to have an alchemy system, yeah, some things should be hard to get, but when 90% of ingredients are a pain in the butt to track down, that's a bit much.
That said, I am over 40 hours in, so the game must be doing something right. wink
