Taima was starting to get a little tired. She could feel herself starting to slow down, but at least her shadow was, too.

No, this was no time to slow down. Rather than give herself the opportunity to take a breather, Taima put a little more speed into her strikes, pleased when her double started leaking more of the shadowy substance it was made of.

There: it faltered, and Taima pressed her advantage.

Yes, yes, Taima could feel it: that urge to rend and tear that she had been overcome with against the horsemen in a desert so far away from the school and this test. Some part of Taima secretly relished every opportunity she had to prove that she was not just some little bird, even if it was only to herself.

"That's enough," Taima said, and there was a hint of a rumble in her voice. The air crackled around her as her eyes lit up like a beacon of warning, and she gave her shadow the dirtiest look she could muster. It manifested as twin bolts of lightning that shot from her eyes and hit true, that final shock all that was needed for Taima's shadow to dissipate with a wordless shriek.

That was it. No more obstacles. The exit stood open before Taima, and she walked through it, making a beeline for the professor. "Thank you," she said in response to his congratulations, holding the certificate of completion like the precious thing it was. "Now, if you don't mind--I'm going back to bed."
