Borias slowly came to with a yawn as he licked his lips and his eyes met hers. A grin spread across his face.

"What a beautiful way to wake up. Morning gorgeous."

He pulled her down onto him and he kissed her firmly.

Layla made a soft surprised sound when he pulled her down but gave in to the kiss with a pleased sigh. When he finally let her up for air, it took her a moment to remember that she'd woken him up for a reason.

"There's a bath ready for you. I already took mine," she told him simply. It wasn't her way to mention the rest of what she'd done. So she gave him another brief kiss and moved out of his reach with a grin to encourage him to get out of the bed.

"I thought I'd get dressed and see about going hunting. We need to restore your stock of leather, after all," she said and gestured to where his shop was over her shoulder, "The thieves didn't touch your orders, for some strange reason. I think there are four of them in there for you to look at," she added, knowing how much he liked his work and would appreciate that he'd been missed.

He pouted some as she kissed him and then moved out of his reach.
He sat up and cracked his neck with a soft pleased moan before he got out of bed and stretched more.

"A bath? But I love the smell of you on me."

He chuckled some.

"But you set up the bath already and I wont waste a great gesture. Thank you Layla."

He walked over to her, and cupped her chin and gave her one last kiss before he dropped his hand.

"So they only stole the leather? Figures....It is the best on the island, but at the same time, it makes me angry as so much work goes into it."

He shrugged.
"Oh well....at least that is the only thing they took."

Borias smiled as she said she wanted to see about hunting.
"Ah. Sounds good. That will give me time to clean up the shop and look over the orders."

Layla watched him head for the bath and silently admitted that she loved that sight. She finally shook herself into focus and set about getting dressed while he was getting clean. By the time he'd finished, she was collecting her bow and heading out through the shop.

But she had to stop at the door and stare in amazement, "Borias?" she called out to him, "I don't think I need to go hunting," she added and had to stare as the wagons were brought to a stop along the front of the building.

She found herself nervous then, realizing that she had no idea how to deal with the people from the village who were bringing three wagonloads of things to Borias. As the three men came towards the doorway, she spoke to them something about going to get Borias and headed back inside.

She found him putting on a pair of pants, "There are three men outside with three wagons. I think they're looking for you," she told him simply then went into the kitchen. Why there? She had no idea. But she wasn't too certain how to deal with the men bringing Borias things from the village.

They brought furniture to replace what had been taken, new leather stock, foodstuffs, bedding, stuff for the kitchen, equipment to replace the tools that had been taken, and even plants for the garden. All of it collected from everyone in the village to help him out since he'd helped them countless times in the past...

Borias was pulling on some pants when Layla came into the room and seemed to be a bit confused.

"Wagons? Why would they bring us wagons?"

He watched her as she went into the kitchen and he quickly put on his socks and boots before he went outside to see the three men who had come to see him.

As he went went outside and met with the three men, she could see from the window that he was very much surprised as he spoke with them. He was handed a letter and then he was nodding and shaking all three of their hands.

Borias pointed to a shaded area and they began to unload things over where he had pointed. He went back inside to throw on a shirt and help.

Once he had a shirt on, he went to the kitchen.

"It seems the villagers found out we were robbed. They recognized some of my tools and gear when the thieves tried to sell them at the market. Most of it is lost as the thieves were hired hands on a vessel that left two days before.

Those men came to check on us, and found that we were not here and they saw the damage the thieves caused. They went back home and called a village meeting.....it was there that they decided to pull together to help supply some things to help us get back on our feet."

He placed a hand on her shoulder as her back was to him.

"Are you alright? Can you come out and help me help them unload things?"

Layla, by now, had set her bow and quiver on the table and gotten herself back under control, silently cursing herself for being an idiot. So when Borias came in, she fave him the small smile she only gave to him and nodded, "I'm fine, Borias, and of course I'll help," she said simply and moved up on her toes to give him a brief kiss then went outside with him.

As they approached the men she hesitated briefly, showing him that she was actually a bit nervous, but forced herself forward and started helping to unload one of the wagons. At first, the men stared at her in open shock since she was the first Elf they'd ever seen and she was very beautiful.

But after a moment they recovered and started off passing her smaller things to unload in deference to her smaller size. Of course, that didn't last long when she simply picked up one of the heavy rolls of leather, set it to her shoulder, and carried it to the growing pile. That made them stare again.

Borias smirked as the mens mouths dropped open as she took a huge bit of supplies.
"My mate and wife is amazing, isn't she?"
They turned their surprised gazes on him before they congratulated him and helped him un packing the rest of the wagons.
Once they were gone he went to see Layla.
"You throughly impressed them."

Layla was moving the foodstuffs into the pantry and trying to make sense of them. It was a good thing he cooked or they'd have been in real trouble. Cause she had no idea what most of the stuff was for. Thankfully Borias distracted her.

But she had to give him a small frown over what he said to her, "Impressed them how?" she asked him simply. And she proved, yet again, that she had no idea how beautiful she was. Or that it might be unusual for a female to be able to pick up that kind of weight over here. Where she was from, that kind of thing was normal and she was usually considered a bit plain among other elves. Well, she'd been told that she was...

She looked over the food she'd just put into the pantry then turned back to him, "I'm glad you know what to do with that stuff... Otherwise, we'd likely starve," she told him with a small smile over her lack of 'womanly' skills, limited to her weaving and a bit of sewing.

Borias went over to her and wrapped his huge muscled arms around her.

"You impressed them by being you. Beautiful, strong, independent. Those traits are very impressive."

He kissed her cheek.
"The island have elves, but not very many of them do manual labor ilke you just did. We see many traders who are elven, but they usually hire muscle to help them move things or carry things for them.

I remember asking a fellow once why he couldn't pick something up and he replied that he didn't want to ruin his perfect physique with muscle mass."

Borias released her and gave a playful pat on the butt.

"Don't worry about cooking. I don't mind. Besides, if you ever want to learn let me know. I can teach you."

James Taggart

A boat docked at the harbor, sometime later a man walked down the ramp and simply looked around a moment before he made his way into the village, he was a quiet sort as he casually walked forward, his packs on his back, with his buckler hanging off them, his sword protruding from his back, the armor he wore was well made, the rifle slung on his right shoulder. James moved casually about not really sure about anything he saw there, it was obvious that there were plenty of people at this village, but even without really trying it was also obvious that there were shifters there as well, and who knows what else. Didn’t really matter any to him if they were there, in all likelihood the church already knew about this place and were likely already trying to deal with it, using his steel no less, a regret he surely did have.

As he moved about the village, he noted that the people there were quite friendly folk, not a surprise if he was being honest, it would have been more of a surprise if the people weren’t friendly and suspicious of any and all who were around them, that in itself would have told him that there was more going on than might have appeared but as it stood it looked like the village was the sort to not shy away from anyone. Eventually he stopped walking, his eyes affixed upon a sign above a building, Borias’ leather works, looked like someone knew the trade, well perhaps he could get a few things he’d likely need to if nothing else repair his boots since they were worn out and in need of being serviced, he sighed as he stepped towards the building and simply opened the door and walked in. once inside he looked around and didn’t see anyone about “Hello?” he glanced around, somewhat dismayed that no one replied. It was then that it hit him, he didn’t have to see it to know that something was wrong, as he could smell death and moved over to the counter and looked to the other side to see a Centaur? Lying in a pool of blood a weapon drawn though little good it did him as he stepped around the counter and knelt down next to the body and shook his head “poor b*****d, didn’t stand a chance” he looked at the wounds of which were many and noted that most of the were bullets as much as they were cuts where blades had slashed and pierced his flesh. Based on all the blood he wasn’t the only one bleeding and seemed to at least put up a fight before the end, though based on the entry points and cuts, it wasn’t hard to tell that the church had been here, since he’d recognized the size of the injuries which meant. James leaned forward and pulled one of his throwing knives out of his carrier and made a small cut by one of the bullet holes, and started digging for the bullet and thankfully was rewarded after going in fairly deep, though to his dismay it was indeed the church the round one of his own creations, it seemed like the church was fond of the lethality of such a round since they did tend to go deep and do a lot of damage in the process, and considering he was riddled with holes it was clear that this poor fellow had been shot to death when they couldn’t secure the kill with swords to which were just as many injuries as the bullets, he surely did put up one hell of a fight before the end, the churches hunters were likely going to remember this fight and find some way to put one down faster and without casualties to their own, especially since there is an awful amount of blood and while it was obvious a good portion was his, there was some that didn’t belong to him and some of it trailing off towards the back and the front door, obviously while some her injured the amount of blood told him that they’d incurred casualties at least two maybe three, and possibly two that her injured. He stood up and tossed the bullet off to the side and simply sighed as he shook his head, the church really did go overboard on this, though based on the fact that they’d have dead and wounded, as well as the fact that there were no bodies around they’d likely still be on the island, though it was hard to say how long ago it was that he was killed, for all he knew they were already gone.

He didn't get to go far. As he got to his feet and turned to the front door, he was met by an elf with a wicked bow, arrow drawn and ready to fly. Her platinum hair was pulled back and showed off her slightly pointed ears as her golden eyes narrowed at him.

One look at her right hand, and Borias' left hand, showed exactly who she was. The red-colored tattoo of a rose vine was what was left from their being handfasted by the Goddess herself. This, then, was the centaur's wife...

She didn't move from where she was, arrow aimed for a lethal blow, and waited for an explanation. She might have seemed almost stone-faced, but one look at her eyes told a different story... She was rage-fueled right now. Later, she'd be emotional. But for now, she had her priorities: find out what had happened, kill whoever had killed Borias, then see about his funeral pyre.

His funeral would be held back in the elven realm, at the centaur village that had adopted her.

For now, she stood in a modified stance, ready to loose her arrow. And with the barbing she had going, she wouldn't just implant that arrow in him, she'd tear a very large hole in the human in front of her... But she had to take the modified stance thanks to the double brace on her right leg, part on the upper leg and part on the lower leg. Those breaks still wouldn't heal, and they'd been there for years now. She'd managed to compensate, but the brace was necessary...

James knew he was in a very bad position, she had him dead to rights, and while he knew the quality of his armor would likely aid him any other time, based on the weapon and the elf, it was likely not going to make much a difference. Raising his hands up slightly he dropped the throwing knife and spoke up “easy now” he moved slightly to the side noting that the tip of the arrow moved with him “I’m not the one your after…” his voice showed that he was slightly concerned by the situation he found himself. The branding on his left shoulder likely wasn’t helping his situation either. On his shoulder an old branding perhaps one that is likely no longer in use or perhaps it is, the branding of a skull, with the words Vigilo Confido under it. During his time within the church he was branded with such a mark to show that he was while not a hunter was as much a part of them as any other. “Look I know how this looks, but I can assure you I had nothing to do with his death, I only just arrive not long ago and came here looking to buy supplies when I found him here” James was nervous as he stood there and only hoped that he was getting through to the elf before him.

She took a few slow steps inside, the bow never wavering, and allowed her eyes to take in the full scene quickly. She noted that he only had a little blood on the one hand and instantly knew that he couldn't have been one of the ones doing the attacking. She finally gave one nod and lowered the bow, though she didn't out the arrow back in the quiver almost hidden at her hip.

Instead, she moved around Borias, taking in the scene, then followed the blood trails out the back door and noted the two dead bodies. Those, she inspected as well, then followed the rest of the trail out of the back yard. It went past the garden Borias had planted and headed for the beach, telling her where the killers had gone.

She headed back to the house, her limp almost completely hidden, and moved to kneel at Borias' head. She gently stroked a hand through his mohawk and gave a heavy sigh, closing her eyes briefly, "You got two of them... I'll take the rest soon enough..." she promised him softly then got back to her feet and looked at the human.

She noted his armament and the pack he wore, a specific tool poking out of the top. She knew that particular tool all too well because it had been one of Borias' favorites, which meant that this man was a leathersmith as well, "I have to send a message back home to take care of Borias. But first, I have to get someone from the village to take care of the two idiots out back," she started then paused to consider again but knew she had to press forward, "Watch over him? I don't want those two to disappear or anyone else to come back after what's left of him..." she asked of him.

This wasn't easy for her by any means. Borias lived just inside the treeline of the forest because he liked his isolation and she'd been more than grateful for it. She'd been doing better with some of the villagers, but those had taken time. Her first husband, Zuko, had taught her to avoid being around people: for their protection, not hers. Zuko had been truly psychotic in a category all to himself...

So for her to ask him to do something like this meant alot for her. Unfortunately, custom demanded that she couldn't move Borias until she could get the escort here to take him to the Dark Forest. The centaurs were picky about that stuff...

By now, most of the villagers were used to her manner of dress, so she didn't really get any looks over it these days. But it was probably a bit of a shock for the human to see her dressed in seemingly so little. Then again, he didn't know that it doubled as armor more protective than anything he'd even heard of...

James lowered his hands and simply watched her move, he kept quiet for the most part until she addressed him though he was surprised by her request, though more so with her appearance. It was best to leave things alone, but he did eventually speak up “sure, but won’t you need help?” he paused a moment as he stepped over to where the back door was and poked his head outside the door and noted the two hunters who were dead ‘interesting, there’s no armaments’ he noted that they were wearing bare minimums which probably meant they’d been stripped of anything still functional and discarded the bodies after. Returning to the elf he sighed “if you’re going hunting, wouldn’t it be better to have support, the way I figure there’s at least a dozen hunters in the group, minus the two stiffs in the back of course, the blood tells me plenty of them are wounded but are likely still just as dangerous as the others” the glare directed at him did little to faze him as he knelt down and continued “I can watch the fallen husband, if that is what you want, you can be assured that no one won’t come anywhere near him"

James walked over to the counter and dropped his packs on top grabbing his buckler and mounting it on his left forearm the rifle in his hands as he chambered a round from the internal magazine and braced it up against the counter before he stepped over to where he dropped his throwing knife and sheathed it. “word of advice, be careful with those whose carrying rifles, they’re likely using a large caliber round with a high velocity, let one of those hit you and you’ll likely not be getting up from it” his concern was understandable but he wasn’t aware of the unique properties that were her clothes else he might not have been so concerned, one thing was clear he was a lot more chattier than he usually was.

She gave him a simple nod then shrugged at the caution, "They'll never see me," she told him simply then headed back into one of the bedrooms to send the message to her adopted father. The words were softly spoken and short in substance. Her father knew her well enough that he wouldn't get much out of her but the bare facts for now. But he'd agreed to send an honor guard for Borias.

She returned to the human and gave him another nod, "A group of centaurs may show up before I get back. Just stay out of their way. If one of them insists on finding me, just point him in the right direction," she told him then looked at Borias.

There was a flash of pain in her eyes before she closed her eyes briefly and took in a deep breath and gripped her bow for a moment. Then she opened her eyes and headed out the back door with a more determined look on her face.

She was going Hunting... And she rarely missed...

About an hour after she left, a portal formed in the back hedgewall of the back garden and a group of seven centaurs came through. Most had darker pelts but paler skin and all were nowhere as muscular as Borias had been, but six of them silently moved to gently shift Borias onto a stretcher specially made for the larger centaur.

The seventh was older, carrying silver hair at his temples and in his tail and his pelt was dark with silver dappling over his rump. He wore a golden arm-cuff and an ornate torc around his neck. His hair was pulled back in an intricate braid while the others just wore their hair pulled back simply. This one turned bright blue eyes onto the human and spoke very simply, "Where is Layla?" he asked simply, genuine concern written over his face.
