"Or several." He gave him that much at least, for all the silence he was radiating. Ripley had been about to tell Chance to let him go and back up when the other man did it on his own accord. His shield was a little stronger than the trainee's, and he was fairly sure Chance needed the distance to use his weapon. He didn't want to look back at him, or to take his eyes off Shaheen in any way.

Especially now that she was putting distance between them now. He was suspicious, he was on edge, and he didn't like where this was going. Even Wilhelm was muttering his hesitation over what was going on. He watched the show, as Shaheen began to shimmer, and then -

"Oh. <********>." He cursed low, almost under his breath. Spinning, he focused on Chance for only a moment - doing exactly what he tried not to - and gestured away. "Get back!" He warned, about to do the same before Wilhelm caught his attention and he twisted again, but this time, right into the claws and maw of the attacking lioness.

Ripley met her face-to-face with Wilhelm poised to attack, but it didn't matter. He was too late. She fell on him, her weight and momentum knocking him to the ground and under her mass, trapping him with no hope for escape.

A pained cry tore from his lips as she wore at his shoulder, and as her teeth ripped into his flesh, the ground under him grew darker.

"You...b***h..." Ripley growled out between gasps for air. "Chance, stay focused!" He gasped out, suddenly afraid that the trainee would freeze, or go blank. It was one of the last things he needed right now, since the last thing he needed insisted on pinning him to the ground. His shield rose to protect him from sustaining any seriously life threatening damage - blood loss excluded - and his mind cleared enough to realize one thing: as he fell, he must have lifted Wilhelm up. The sword was held at an odd angle, but the tip was trapped in her stomach. He began to grin, the motion much sinister looking than he intended, if only for the blood that darkened his lips.

"You can go to hell." His threat was breathless, and accompanied by a sharp twist; he jerked to the side as best as he could, twisting Wilhelm deeper into her stomach.

A series of curses left Chance's mouth, barely audible over the half screeching snarl from the creature. He barely had time to register the fact that she'd changed before she was running forward on powerful legs, leaping towards the two of them -

- no, the one of them.

"RIPLEY!" Chance yelled once more, but it was drowned out, lost as Ripley thudded to the ground, the creature atop him, and there was blood everywhere now, spreading out across the floor, dark red and a sharp contrast to the blinding yellow light glowing from teeth and claws. Asher was shouting inside of his head, and Chance's fingers were scrabbling along the bowstring, threading an arrow as quickly as possible.

He fired off a shot, and then a second, but there wasn't enough room between them to maneuver properly; the arrows merely grazed her pelt and dissipated uselessly on the other side, or on the floor. Chance let out a frustrated snarl and swore, trying to grab another arrow before he missed his chance.

"Get the hell off of him!"

All of their words and angry pleas were met with only more snarls, though this time some of those sounds tore free from her throat out of pain than of anger. She had a sword blade twisting her gut, and it was agony, as her own blood began to flow thick and heavy over Ripley's hands, adding to that which was spreading out across the floor.

But she didn't have time to show weakness now. She couldn't just back off when she had him in her clawed grasp, pinned on the floor. She roared in his face, a defiant sound, spittle flecked with blood spraying, and she pushed off of him just enough to pull a paw free and send it swinging towards his throat.

Her blood washed over his, darkening his clothing and spilling onto the floor around the both of them. They must have been quite the sight; a bloody mess, the both of them, but with one worse for wear.

His arms were pinned, even as she moved. Her claws came down for his throat, and all he could do was watch it happen. Well, watch and feel. Her claws raked his shield and opened his flesh, missing vital arteries and veins by sheer force of a stubborn shield. His breathing came in ragged, his whole body was beginning to throb with excruciating pain, and he let out a gasping grunt, not allowing himself the hurt scream he wanted so badly to let out.

"Oh SHUT. UP." Ripley yelled at the roaring Lion, as loud as he could with a torn throat and a bloody mess for a shoulder. "Nobody cares what you have to say!" He growled, letting out a second pained cry as he tried to push the blade up further, taking advantage of the small space she had given as she reared back to swipe at him. Like before he twisted it, this time in the other direction, trying to disembowel her for staying too close.

"T-Take her down, Chance." Ripley stammered out ragged, whistling words, half-ordering, half pleading; he hadn't seen the attack miss or heard his threats to the Lioness in the scuffle, but he couldn't look away to check if the other man was even still there. He simply trusted that he hadn't been abandoned.

She was massive, larger than any creature that Chance had ever seen before; the lioness' paws alone could have taken out his head, her massive, rolling shoulders as broad as Chance's entire body. Still, he made a lunge for it, his chest tight, and blood spattered across his front as her claws swung, raked across Ripley's throat. His hands scrabbled on Ripley's arm, then against the flank of the creature as he tried in vain to get it off of him.

He could hear a voice - yelling at first, angry, and then a shout of pain and then something lower, something gasped out in agony and near desperation. Chance took several quick, sliding steps backwards and strung an arrow, but his fingers were slippery with Ripley's blood, and it was taking too long.

{ - don't think just do! - } Asher shouted, and he notched the arrow into place, yanked back on the wire. It was a better aim than his last one, but still not good enough.

"Get the ******** OFF!" Chance yelled, but there was, of course, zero chance that it would actually listen to him.

Chance was very correct in assuming that all of his attempts to remove her from her position on top of Ripley were completely in vain. However, she was in a lot of agonizing pain, the hunters blade tearing through fur and flesh, scraping past bone, leaving her bleeding, coughing. She was weak, and she could no longer hold her form as this, and she slowly began to shimmer, change, shrinking back to the still rather intimidating size of 6'2" of Amazonian war woman. Her chin was flecked with blood, some her own, some his, and she licked her lips of what she could.

"Delicious." She hissed, her teeth bared, the pain she felt hidden behind a viciously cold glare.

Summoning her short sword, and with every ounce of strength she had left at that moment, while blood trailed down large gashes in her belly, her insides held in by her Fear alone, she plunged the blade down, straight to the center of Ripley's stomach.

"You'll remember me this time, Maggot." She growled, and then stood up abruptly, her sword still embedded inside of him, a hand pressed to her wounds as blood flowed between her fingers.

She turned on Chance.

She smiled, though there was hardly anything friendly about it.

"Your turn." Her voice sounded far too sweet.

For a moment, a single moment, he allowed himself to hope. Shaheen was changing shape, so either she was worn down, or abut to go down. It was what he hoped and prayed for. For this to be over, and for the pair of them to escape back to Deus without any further injuries. To his dismay, she summoned a sword - and brought it down, right through his stomach.

This time, Ripley screamed. It was a scream born of agony, and the crushing weight of all of his injuries, hitting him at once. His shield had shattered, a feeling he knew all too well, and all the pain that had been held at bay had now swooped in, lighting up every nerve of his body.

He lay there in a pool of blood, both his and Shaheen's, writhing in pain and making grabs for the blade in his abdomen. Getting a grip was near impossible, between his blood slick hands and the depth of the wound; he was certain, somehow, that it had gone through him entirely, and had embedded in the floor under him. Of course, he couldn't know if he was right, but in his addled mind, it only made sense.

He gasped for air and struggled to remain conscious, turning his head despite his wounds to find where Chance had gone. Shaheen was advancing on him, and despite it all, he had to do something.

"P-Port out." He whispered, though he thought he was yelling. He was losing blood fast, and already his extremities were becoming numb. He tried to inhale, but ended up momentarily choking on his own blood. "Get...Get out." He pleaded through gritted teeth, his expression pinching with pain.

He felt as though he were in way over his head for someone who had only been awake for a month. Still, Chance managed to maintain as much calm as he could, forcing himself to compartmentalize, to focus on the situation at hand. He was not panicking - that, at least was one his better qualities, the ability to keep his thoughts in check - but the situation was growing rapidly more dire.

"RIPLEY!"

His own yell was drowned out by Ripley's shriek of agony, the sound of a blade sliding through flesh and bone, and there was so much blood everywhere, a pool of it beneath the other hunter, who now lay on the floor of it, his white hair covered in it, stained scarlet. He was twisting, writhing, and Chance darted across the floor to him, skidding on the blood until he was beside the other, a half-gloved hand touching the side of his face.

"Hell no, I'm not leaving you yet," he said, and smiled down at him. "I'm getting your a** out of here."

The sword had gone straight through him, pinning him to the floor; Chance didn't dare pull it out, for fear of harming him more, but he stood and twisted around, facing the creature, his bloodied fingers slipping away from Ripley's face. Shifting his feet, Chance began to move away from Ripley's limp form, drawing the creature in a different direction if he could.

"Kitty's got claws, I see," he said lightly, and smiled at her, notching an arrow and sending it spiraling in her direction.

"I never liked cats."

She had backed off, enough that Chance's long range weapon could be easily wielded. Perhaps not a smart move from the war elder, but she was in a lot of pain at the moment, her teeth bared because of it in a smile that was far too vicious, her teeth still stained with her own blood and perhaps Ripley's as well. Her hand still held against the wound in her side, but when Chance spoke, she let it drop, and pointed at him.

"I am no mere kitten, human. I am so much more than that, and you would be wise to remember it." She tried desperately to school her features, a smooth mask, something to not show the pain that wracked her body.

She concentrated, blinking slowly, her wings began to glow a soft yellow, much like her weapon had earlier in the fight.

But the glow faded, and she hissed a curse under her breath, frowning, her gaze dropping.

The arrow hit, but what was a little more pain on top of the rest? She brushed the arrow away even while it disappeared. It was cold, much like all of the arrows had been. "You would also be wise to leave, while he's still alive." She grinned, but again, it was too vicious to be anything but a baring of teeth.

"Because, as I'm sure you know, you can take me out now, but I will come back. I will always come back. You precious little humans with all of your flesh and bones and blood, you don't come back, do you? I've killed enough of you to know." She laughed then, again. "I don't want him to die, yet. I want him to remember me."

Chance wasn't listening to him. It was important that he did, and yet - and yet those dark eyes stared down at him, and that horrifying reassuring smile... It was wrong, all wrong, but all these thoughts were trapped inside of his head, as his teeth clenched tightly and his breathing came in quick, short heaves. All he could do was stare at the other man through eyes slit with pain, silently pleading him to listen.

He watched Chance leave, nothing but a gurgled protest leaving his numb lips.

Time was beginning to slow down for him; things that happened quickly seemed stretched for hours on end. He hurt. He hurt so badly. Even breathing was becoming a chore, as the harder he fought for breath the more the sword sawed into him, and the more blood seeped out of his wounds. His writhing was beginning to subside as his limbs grew too heavy to move, and soon the only motion he gave was the steady, gasping pump of his mangled chest.

All he wanted to do was close his eyes in hopes that relief would follow, but he didn't. He couldn't. He forced his eyes to remain as open as he could, hellbent on watching as much of the altercation between Chance and Shaheen as he could. There were a few times where it was impossible, when a wave of pain would force his eyes shut for a few agonizingly long moments, but those amber eyes of his, with mismatched pupils, always tore open again, even in thin slits.

Shaheen was trying to convince Chance to leave as well, and it was likely the only thing they would ever agree on, but it was something. Even if she was only doing it to save her own skin from the brief inconvenience of dissipating, it was still an out. Though from what he could hear from where he was, and with his mind preoccupied as it was, it was because of him. She wanted him to remember her? That was a laughable idea; he could never forget her. She would haunt his dreams again, and stay with him every time he saw the scars she had inflicted.

It occurred to him then, as he lay helplessly pinned to the ground, that perhaps his earlier posturing had in fact saved his life. Or...might have saved his life, at this rate.

He just needed to get Chance to leave first. Shaheen was injured, but she was still a massive threat and the Trainee was, well, new to this. There was always a chance this could go bad quickly...

Instead of words, a small choking noise left him, no louder than his ragged breathing.

His eyelids were getting heavy.

He knew that disobeying Ripley's demand would later come back to him; that as an Intermediate, Ripley had more experience, more reason to be the one in charge. But leaving him behind was not an option either, and Chance had made that quick decision already.

He may still have been new to Deus, but leaving a colleague - and, if he was thinking more positively on it, a friend - was not something to be easily accomplished, in spite of this.

The creature looked quite deranged; there was blood on her face and on her front and on her teeth, making the already demented grin look even more feral, even more wild. Chance shifted his hands on the bow and took another step back, and then to the side, almost like a dance; his fingers were slippery with Ripley's blood, and he bit carefully down, biting back the nausea rising in his throat.

"Kitten, cat, same thing," he said, trying to keep her focus away from Ripley and on him while he tried to figure out how to get the sword out of him and get the both of them back to the island without killing the other. "Both have claws."

It may not have been the best idea to provoke the creature; Chance restrung an arrow and directed the bow towards her, eyes narrowing a little as he carefully took aim, the weapon directed towards her torso. He wasn't sure if he'd get another chance, but he was sure as hell going to try.

"I'm pretty sure you're unforgettable already," he said mildly, and fired.

Gods it hurt. Her body was breaking out in goosebumps, shuddering, shaking in a barely perceptible sort of way but shaking nevertheless. She could have summoned her sword back to herself at any moment, but she chose not to, simply because she was still hoping to intimidate this hunter into leaving, and was refusing to engage in combat.

Plus, she rather liked that it was continuing to pin the other hunter to the floor. It was such a nice sight to take in, from the quick glances she took, her tongue flicking over her lips yet again as if to remind herself of just how sweet he tasted.

But this companion did not appear very eager to take the out that she was giving.

"Very well." She smiled, her voice coming out a low and throaty purr.

She closed her eyes for a moment again, staggering back as the arrow took her, tearing a pained sound from her throat though she had tried to hold it back. Eyes snapped back open again, glaring, the smile had faded away.

Her wings began to glow again, and this time, the glow stayed, brightening until the moment when they snapped around herself, folding in around her, large and all encompassing.

When they reopened, she took a step forward. The wounds on her stomach appeared to have healed over, the pain, while still present, had greatly subsided.

She still did not summon the dagger to her hand, slowly stalking towards him with eyes boring into his.

Even injured, she was terrifying. Chance quickly restrung another arrow, the sound of her mangled cry sending his nerves on edge. His fingers were stained red; it made him a little sick to his stomach, but he forced that back, because he wasn't going to get out of there with Ripley still intact if he lost it now.

"Do you always play with your food before you eat it?" Chance asked lightly, taking a few steps backwards as she stepped closer; careful, deliberate steps, needing the distance between them to get him a better shot. Close-range with a bow and arrow was difficult enough as it was; and for someone was inexperienced as he was, he didn't want to take the chance of missing.

"Believe me," he said, "I don't taste very good, and neither does he. I'm pretty salty, and he's just bland."

She paused in her steps, her head cocking to one side, eyes still narrowed and scrutinizing.

"Yes. Yes I suppose I do."

And then she was darting forward, full tilt, his arrow taking her high in her leg, giving her half a second of stumble, catching herself with a wing brushing against the floor, going again.

She closed the distance between them, and with a beat of her wings, lifted herself off of the ground to sweep at him with a roundhouse kick, even while grunting.

"He tastes just fine to me."

He cast a quick glance in Ripley's direction before his eyes snapped back to the creature - just in time, too, because her leg swung towards him and caught him around the middle. Chance grunted, staggering backwards several feet, one hand going to his stomach.

"No, really," he said, waving at the her in what was clearly supposed to be a placating, noncommittal gesture. "He's got no flavor at all, he's definitely not worth remembering. I'm sure there are others with a little more, ah, spice to them, right?"

His next arrow missed, not even grazing her.
