It was a challenge the mare was all too glad to take up. That sweet smile stretched wider, this side of manic, as she drew ashen fingers down the back of her blade. "Be wary what you ask for, hunter."

Perhaps she should have looked silly, delicate as she was--clothed in lacy layers and moving on bare feet--but she she moved with a grace and skill that spoke of practice. The saber came up, and with an expert twitch of wrist and downward thrust she aiming a powerful thrust for his shoulder.

It caught him, surprisingly, across the face -- and while his shields kept it from rending a scar across his cheeks, it still hit hard enough to leave one side of him numb, to leave his mouth shifting and trying to recover, just a little breathless.

His swing, in reply, lacked that same power, but at least it was something. He didn't talk to her anymore, just grimly focused on not getting horribly murdered.

She did adore the feel of her blade as it hit flesh, but without the accompaniment of blood, it was lacking. The mare's lip curled, grip adjusting to angle the long blade to run parallel to her arm. Blocking his swing, slightly, before the stiletto slid free to jab into her and had her jerking back.

Only briefly. She lunged forward again, rotating her wrist, in a powerful slash cross the center of his body, digging, tearing at his fear shield.

But it wasn't enough, and it wouldn't be, not until she had whittled away at the barrier that protected him, and spilled actual blood. Nergui needed it, she crazed it. It made her unique as a priestess, more unstable, but powerful. She relished in battle where other's of her sisterhood may wilt.

"Bleed for me, Hunter. Bleed!"

She hit hard: harder than any of the spars he'd done, even when he was being pummeled by Cami. It set a low sort of panic into his bones, and so when Amory breathed for him to drink, Ever gave in to the urge.

The runes on his weapons flared, bright, but as of yet, nothing seemed to happen. He held up his sword in the hopes that she wouldn't destroy him before he had time to heal up.

The flash of runes had the mare pausing, drawing back to regard the weapon in his hand warily. She knew what that meant, in the abstract. A rush of Fear, usually resulting in a stronger a attack. Nergui was no stranger to pain, but she was in no hurry to allow the human to gain the upper hand in this fight. Not when she was so close--not certainty, but a intuitive feeling.

So she danced back on elegant, bare feet, smiling beatifically as that dark saber came down in a low sweep to drag the tip along the floor.

Across the top of his shadow.

He'd feel it, the lightest brush along his brow, as if she strokes a soft finger along pale skin. A pause, brows lifting, to see if he'd put two and two together, and when that dawning realization hit she grinned, manic, before striking.

Not his physical body, but the dark spill of his shadow across the floor. She hacked, slicing, taking chunks of wood from the floorboards--and he would feel it, every last bite of her blade, as if she were indeed upon him. And there, at the end, the split of skin, the scent of blood. Just a hint, but oh so promising.

[ Shadow Strike Redux] - T3 Swift Strike: Nergüi Will strike at a person's shadow, and if she manages to hit, her opponent will feel the blow as if she had actually attacked them directly. This may leave lasting damage in the form of superficial cuts and bruises in correlation with where Nergui struck the shadow.

Again -- that hurt like hell, enough to drive the breath out of him, and if Ever had the choice, he'd run for the hills right now. It wasn't a choice, though, and his mind skittered, not quite settling on any particular thought but the one in the back of his head:

Drink, child, drink.

And it was something, at least, so he let Amory drive him, leaning forward to sweep his dagger at Nergui. It caught the edge of her coat and then dipped deeper, catching skin, and when it did, it drank: it stole some of her Fear, but the touch was like a low caress that drove away the worst of Ever's pain and might leak over into the Horseman.

It didn't clear his head, though. It just made him want to do it again.

He cut her, blade dragging over flesh, and she recoiled, mimatched eyes going wide. There had been pain, a quick sting that was to be expected, but where the greater ache should have been, instead she felt a caressing brush that was startling and utterly unwelcome.

It was an invasion. A violation that darkened her cheeks and peeled lips back from pearly teeth in a vicious snarl. She would kill him. Ripe him limb from limb and bath in the blood from his body. How dare he!

Was it wise to infuriate an already-obviously-bonkers horseman? Probably not, and Amory agreed, but -- they didn't have a whole lot of choice. So he swiped again, barely snagging her this time, sword thirstily searching for more Fear and only catching the smallest amount.

Ever drew in a deep breath and took a step back, defensive, eyes wary. That had helped, but only a little bit.

"...we could stop, if you'd rather." She didn't need to know that he couldn't exactly do that again.

Again, the bite of his blade was accompanied with something unpleasantly pleasant. The mare seethed, furious at the intrusion, and countered, saber swinging in a wild arc to drive him back from her.

"Stop?" A cold laugh, like the sound of breaking glass. "Do you still believe this ends well for you?"

She succeeded in driving him back: one step, and then another, but he swung as he went, drawing in a shaky sort of breath. And, behind her, he spotted movement. Dark eyes flicked from her to a figure in the hallway, one of the techs who was being as silent as he could, but widely mouthing something over and over. He had something in hand and he gestured at it as his mouth opened wide. Three words. Six syllables.

Ever flicked eyes back onto Nergui in an attempt to keep her from turning. "I think I'll survive it."

But he wasn't quite sure. He shot another look to the tech.

The priestess had eyes only for the Hunter before her, everything else was superficial, unimportant. For the moment she didn't even notice the presence of a second tech, dangerous that, but she was focused. Whatever magic he'd touched her with was gone, she'd felt that in the last glancing attack. The usual sting, but nothing else. It made her smile, cold and anticipatory, as she ran dark fingers down the flat of her blade.

Something was missing, but not for long. She knew how to fix it.

It was that false bravado that made her laugh, high and ugly, like the sound from a moment before. Then she was moving forward again, seeking an opening and exploiting it.

The tip of her saber hit his stomach, pushing against the shredded remains of his shield before, with an almost audible crack, it shattered. Mismatched eyes lit up, delighted, as her blade sank past skin, into flesh, burying into the hunter's stomach. "If you think you're truly walking away from this," she purred, head tilting up to meet those dark eyes. "You haven't been paying attention." A shift, and she lay her weight, slight though it may be, against the hilt of her saber, forcing it deeper by painful, agonizing inches. Until the tip slid free of his back, through his jacket, scrapping against the wall behind him.

"Bleed for me.". Mismatched eyes stayed locked on his, watching for the light to fade from dark depths until there was nothing left but inky dullness staring back at her. Tjis was her favorite part.

Ever was lucky: the pain of it gave away quickly to shock, instead, as her blade punctured something vital. The expression on his face was definitely, surprised, both of his hands coming in to wrap around the sword and his eyes dropping like he couldn't believe that had happened --

And from behind, something hit Nergui, bursting into nothing upon contact. The tech's weapon was some kind of sling, which he reloaded with shaky hands even as he skittered into the room, out of the way, so that when she turned to find her assailant he was already moving past her, toward Ever.

Yes! It was beautiful. That look of surprise and the spread of darkness as realization started to sink in. She revealed in it, savoring it. The priestess was of Death, this was what she lived for, and there was nothing so sweet as snuffing out some poor hunter's light.

But something interrupted.

Whatever had hit her shoulder didn't hurt, but it did drag her reluctant attention away from the blonde's face and out into the room. "You're ruining it!" She screamed it at him as he skittered closer, and in one smooth motion she pulled the black bladed saber free, pointing it now towards her new target. Leaving Ever to slump against the wall. Blood dripped from her hands, running down her arms in thick lines to collect at her elbows.

"Do you really want to play?" The mare was crazed. "I'll kill you, too. And I will enjoy it."

"No ma'am," was his answer, but he said it even as he was moving; skirting around the edges of the room. Unlike Ever, he wasn't going to engage with her. He was just going to defend, was going to dodge and run, until he could get a hand on his now-unconscious and critical-condition teammate. The sling was still in his hand, of course, but unless she bum rushed and grabbed him --

All it would take was one hand on Ever's shoulder, and he wouldn't even check pulse, just speak three words:

Deus Ex Machina.
