Family affairs

Nahm accepted the letter and scanned it briefly, noting the multiple hands, the warm tone; not a brusque, firm summons like the letters the twins got, but a more relaxed and affectionate missive. Pleasant, and rather gentle, by his standards at least.

He handed it back, tilted his head curiously and studied the chimera's face. "When you planning?" he inquired. "Going to be out long?"

In Stitches

"If they stay in, your flesh's gonna grow around 'em, and that's no good," Nahm explained, gently. "You're not a patchwork, so you don't need 'em to stay. Anyhow, that belly of yours deserves to be nice and smooth." The small knife was held low and angled away, as unthreatening as a knife could be.

His eyes flickered over to Ahm. It would be better if Merry cooperated, but the process could be done either way. Quick would be best. This, too, they had done before.

Little Black Book

Contrary to what one might expect, the twins do not have a Little Black Book. A dry-erase "score"-board, yes, but a Little Black Book? No.

They've never needed one.

Ahm remembers almost everything. He has a tactical mind and the ability to sift through thousands of minute details with ease. And what he doesn't remember, Nahm does. Between the pair, there's no need for a physical (and easily found/exploited) book.

Little Black Book

Shortly after arrangements had been settled, a column had been added to the board for Merry, with no other comment.

Family affair

"I'm not sure," she admitted as she reclaimed the letter, looking down at it thoughtfully. "Late summer, maybe." There were other places she wanted to visit, and she didn't want to make plans for a trip back home until she knew whether or not other plans were going to be arranged. It was better, in this instance, to keep her calendar clear.

"Would you want to go with me, when I do go back?" Red eyes twitched up to him, watching his face for his reaction of the invitation.

Preperations

Merry was sitting on the low table in the twin's room, her legs draped over either of Ahm's thighs. "So is everything in order?"

In Stitches

Ahm watched his twin trying to cajole the Chimera with low, gentle words while keeping the blade at an angle that should have been very non-threatening. And yet...Merry's head kept shaking no and she was doing her level best to keep the stitches right where they were.

It wasn't a good idea.

He caught the look Nahm sent his way, understanding the intent without words. "Trust us beautiful, it's better this way. Been stitched up more times than an elder's cowl." Ahm rose, ready to help as needed, knowing where he should be and how best to make things happen if Merry continued trying to avoid the removal.

"Don't want 'em to grow over or get infected. We'll be so quick."

Merry's legs were distracting, even if you didn't count the rest of the chimera, so he took a moment to answer as his brain shifted focus and processed her question.

"Should be, as long as nothing explodes between now and then." His teeth flashed as he smiled, walking two fingers along her knee and lightly touching one of her scales. "You ready for this?"

In stitches

She knew that, she did. Everything they were saying made perfect, reasonable sense, but she just couldn't seem to make herself lie still for them to do it.

Back against the headboard, her eyes kept flicking from the knife in Nahm's hand, up to his face, and over to Ahm where he was sitting a little aways from them. At least until he stood up and headed closer. Then she watched him like a bird watched a cobra that was closing in on them.

"I know," she squeaked out, still not relenting, still tucked and away from them.

Quick wasn't the problem here. Jack, she wasn't even sure what the problem was.

Preparations

She smiled down at him as his fingers walked up her leg. "Yes." She was more than ready. The closer they got to exams, the more excited the ghoul was for their port exam trip.

"Is there anything I need to know?" She'd asked this before, but she was asking again. And she would no doubt continue to ask up until the point they arrived, and then throughout the whole of their stay. She didn't want to insult their clan, their family. She didn't want to give a bad impression of herself.

Preparations

Between the twins they had gone over the various rituals and social nuances that Merry would be expected to follow while visiting their home. It was important that things go smoothly - they'd be giving their grandfather enough trouble as it was. "Think we've pretty well covered it, doll. Most important thing for you is to treat the Elders with respect." Which he had no doubts would happen, since the Chimera was intelligent and knew what it was like in a clanhold. Roughly, anyway. "That and you don't go out without the scarf or one of us." Just in case.

Ahm was fairly certain the exotic looking ghoul would be quite the conversation starter...he just didn't want a certain kind of conversation being started, if possible. Not during her first visit, at least. It wouldn't do to end up fighting right out of the gate, so to speak. They wanted things to go well, so that there would be no 'extra' issues with their bringing home a non-Grue ghoul...especially not once it was clear she was theirs...and vice-versa.

Preparations

She gave him a soft, thoughtful pout as she looked down at him, pale fingers sliding over the back of his hand before circling his wist so she could draw it to her, kiss the back of his knuckles. "The modifications to the robe?" This worried her. She wasn't shaped the same as they were, she had wings, she had horns, her legs bent where their's did not. Alternations had had to be made, and the thing was shorter now, cut through the back. Essential for comfortable movement, but not nearly as covering as it was meant to be. "I don't want to offend anyone."

More kisses, but it was a nervous gesture, a means to make herself feel better. To reinforce the bond between them. Because no matter how much she wanted this, she still worried.

What if the elder disapproved. What if he forbade his grandsons from being with her...

Awful, frightful thoughts that made her chest ache in a way it never had before. The very thought of having them taken away from her, it was too much to bear.

Preparations

"Not a problem," Ahm smiled up at the worried chimera indulgently; he understood her fears - they crept through his brain too...there were so many things that might go wrong, so many ways this could go sideways - but the elder Grue also knew what his job was. So he would assuage her fears as much as he could, long fingers stretching out to gently stroke her face. "Making you some dark wraps for your legs, to go with it. You're gonna look amazing babe, don't worry so much. We've got this."

Nuzzling at her cheek, on arm supporting her back and splayed between her wings, Ahm tried distracting Merry with affection. "They're gonna love you, Merry. Just like we do. So don't you worry." He dropped soft little kisses over her face, "That's my job."

It would be up to Ahm to present Merry properly. Nahm would be there, of course, but the Elders would be looking to him for the formalized introduction. Was he worried? Yes, some. Was he still certain it would go the way they wanted? Yes, definitely.

Preparations

He said it wouldn't be a problem, reassuring her that everything would go fine, that her visit to the tunnels would go off without a hitch, and yet her worry lingered. She was still excited, still eager to see where the boils had originated, their home, meet their family, but still. This was important. She didn't want to mess it up.

Ah, but it was hold onto that worry when he was nuzzling into her cheek, fingers running along her back between her wings. She purred, leaning into those sweet touches, and flared her wings, feathers playing before settling again.

"If you're sure," she finally conceded, hands settling on his shoulders.

Preparations

"We're sure," Nahm put in. "If we weren't sure, we'd warn you." This was a serious enough matter that false reassurances were entirely out. "You get a little leeway not bein' a grue. Little more credit for trying than we get." He snickered faintly. "We got this, babe, really."

It wasn't that he wasn't at all worried; this was a pretty big demonstration of defiance, a bold move in the constant maneuvering that was grue clan politics, but they were banking on their own demonstrated skills and the value of the time and training invested into them to give them enough time to pull it off, and Merry's energetic sweetness and mischievous streak to charm the elders. The chimera ghoul took this seriously, they knew, and she had put time and effort into learning what she would need to know as a visiting outsider. How this first visit went would set the tone for anything further, and it was a gamble that they felt they could win.
