His reassurance gave her courage, and she kept her focus on him, breathing out the anxiety in order to continue. Of course, her next step would ruin that, as it bumped against another hatching egg.

This time she said nothing, but she did not look comforted anymore.

The next egg she tapped began to unfurl just like the others, and Magda let out a soft whine. "Honestly, now I'm starting to think this is all some elaborate plan just to scare me. If they wanted my Fear so badly, they could have just asked for it. This is just plain - "

The egg blossomed open, and a creature emerged from it, already terrifying in it's size and function. It's birth had interrupted her, so when her final breath came, it was in the form of a finished sentence.

" - rude."

She let go of Malik and shoved him in the opposite direction, instructing him very sternly to run, before heading to the other side of the room. The creature followed, and it's movements cracked open several other eggs as it skittered along. She was thankfully far out of Malik's sight when they finally converged on her, cracking her helmet open like an egg and slithering their way into her. Unfortunately, he was not out of earshot, and the sound of her scream followed by a gurgle, and then ultimately silence, was easily heard.

Her adventures were over.

He couldn't get the screams out of his head. He'd tried so hard to help Magda and get them both through this and yet he'd failed. She was gone. He should have tried something, done something differently! Anything to make sure she made it safely out as well. Now he was alone and stuck in this horrific place still. He had to escape. Had to get out for her. Making a run for it seemed like the best choice at this point, and he was grateful for not hitting any eggs as of yet. After what he saw....no. He had no time to think of that.

By Jack he was almost across when his shoe bumped against an egg and began to peel open. No, no, no. There was no way he was dealing with another of those creatures. He quickly sprinted forward, ducking and dodging any eggs that seemed almost ready to open. So close now. He was almost hopeful that he would make it now, though still distraught that it was just him.

"We should've never gone into the portal, real or not."

Somehow he managed to keep the rest of the eggs from hatching. By some miracle he was across the room and staring at the door to his destination. He could only hope that behind this door was a passage to safety. Or maybe Magda. Or both. He wanted them to both be okay. That wasn't a possibility though. She was gone. Now it was all up to him.

He had finally reached the computer room with everything the federation needed. At this point he didn't care. He'd lost his friend, lost his will to really do anything. All he wanted was to escape. Forget about this entire experience and whatever this information was. He started up the file transfer and waited, hoping it would be a speedy process.

That's when he heard it. An alarm somewhere in the distance. It was just his luck really, after surviving everything else an alarm would be the thing to cause his death. The transfer was still going slowly. It wasn't going to make it. He wasn't going to make it. He had to get out, get back to the airlock. That would save him. He tried to run back to the airlock, but the alien creatures were there. They were ready for him thanks to that alarm. They swarmed around him, crashing him into things until he couldn't move.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

With that there was no more of him. The creatures hungered and he was their food. There were no screams, only silence as they fed.
