Even as emotionally dense as Argoth could be, it was impossible not to feel the tension in the air. Not just the usual Flightlust variety either: several of the browns, the siblings, didn't seem to be as wholly in the hunt as the rest were. Watchwhers? No, no, that was an insulting comparison. Guardians. As the outsider drew close, he watched as one such brother's eyes turn into a warning red. Oh dear.

Well, there was nothing to fear from Argoth. He was a Good Boy, as Ulix sometimes said. And he could all but feel Ulix tell him to shaffing pay attention. And so the brown did, though even when withdrawn, his gaze hadn't left the glowing star. He was not as fast, but he did his damndest to keep up, like a hound on the hunt. Keen, quietly eager, mindlessly moving forward with each twitch and turn.

I don't have pretty words, Argoth told her sheepishly. But I have music in my hearts. Would you let me sing to you before dawn comes?

If he seemed distracted at first, it was only that there was so very much that he felt he needed to keep an eye on - so very many! Elzebuth and Aurinkoth did not merit such a watchful eye, nor even Aresoth, but there were many strangers in the sky tonight, and he found himself deeply wary of them. As one of the stranger browns swooped close to her, snatched at her tail, Menankith rumbled warningly, eyes flashing from purple to red. That one - that one, that one was the one he needed to keep a watch on.

Not that he had no eyes for Cynosuth, for she truly was beautiful, dancing in the stars and putting them all to shame. He sighed after her in appreciation, and sent her a wave of it, and of all of his love. She was precious, without compare, and he was here: would always be here. He did not have the sweet, perfect words that she deserved, but he was here all the same.

Rugareth trilled in delight at Cynosuth's flirtation, the simple gesture filling his hearts with warmth. Even if he wasn't the most shining suitor, or the most familiar, just being acknowledged would bring him immense joy. There were quite a few dragons in the sky now, and while he spotted some hostility between a stranger and a few from Uridith's clutch, he didn't feel the tension that accompanied it himself. No, he was too delighted by being in the air, participating in the chase... oh, Cynosuth was a special green indeed to have brought these feelings out in him!

A beautiful dance! Rugareth exclaimed, letting out a happy little sound. His flight fell short, but it was so much fun to dance with the wind beneath one's wings!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

About N'vim: Ambitious, bitter, with a bad temper. Not the most friendly person to be around, until you get to know him. He will likely just hide unless someone visits his weyr.

About Rugareth: A loving, often meek brown. He doesn't fly very often but when he does, he's a doting and affectionate partner. If he doesn't catch Cynosuth, he's totally open to be caught by one of the other suitors.

If you wish to dance with me, you will have to be fast, Cynosuth said, flitting by them all with a graceful twist and turn. Of course you may watch me, my dearest Aurinkoth. You have always been welcome. You know that. But perhaps he needed to be told. To Aresoth and Elzebuth, she sent fondness, aware that they seemed concerned by the other males who had chosen to pursue her.

But Cynosuth was here to be caught... just not quite yet. She danced amid the stars, and shone just as brightly. To her new, quite roguish admirer, the dainty Green sent a lick of curiosity, and a flare of passion. Indeed, she did wish to be caught. He knew that. She knew that. There were so many to choose from, and yet she found herself intrigued.

Do you have the will to take what you wish? she asked Efraath, diving hard to fly just by the cliffs below. Did any dare to follow her?

Oh dear, sweet Kindeth. Will you fill my night with passion? she asked, sensing him far behind the pack. But his distance did not make his ardor any less, and she sent a joyous greeting to him. This dance among her suitors was quite thrilling, and delightful besides.

To Argoth, she sent a trill of song, the song that pealed within her hearts. Sing to me, Argoth. And why shouldn't she encourage him so? All of them were, for the moment, hers to court. Well.

Almost all of them. It had not escaped her notice that Menankith, however fond, had chosen not to compete truly for her capture. Where she had seen such... such passion and fervor in him when Macuith had flown, she now saw... affection, admiration, and... not a bit of the lust she had observed in him not so many nights before.

Although she sent him back affection of her own, she also sent a wave of confusion. What was he doing?

But she was cheered at once by Rugareth's delightful words. Hello, darling. Do you think so?

Confidence was escaping him, and Aurinkoth found himself silently watching all the more, twisting in the air and curling in circles as he moved around Cynosuth. Nobody would have ever thought he was a bad flier - he enjoyed it too much, and perhaps for another green he would have enjoyed showing off his twirls and show-y moves. He wasn't as bold as some of the more experienced males who had risen to chase were - distance was his friend, though the warm mental caresses remained.

It was a learned hesitation - one that Ichta could feel herself at fault for, even as a familiar green firelizard settled into her arms, giving her a physical focus while she sent her blue her best. You know it'll be okay, she reminded.

She wasn't wrong. Aurinkoth knew no sweet words or seducing poetry, yet what he gave now, constant and strong, and not faltering...he didn't feel it enough. It was a rare moment, his optimism failing him. Yet when the brown he didn't recognize nearly grabbed her, he felt something else well up inside of him.

But no. He wouldn't let that feeling spoil him. He willed it away, rolling in a show as he followed after the shooting star that had drawn them all out that night. Any other doubts or hesitations he would keep to himself, instead boldly pushing forward the single feeling he kept hidden away in this moment so she could see it.

There was no lust in Aurinkoth's heart. Only love - and only for her.

One of the strange males made a snatch, nearly nabbing Cynosuth by the tail, and Elzebuth decided he'd had enough. Almost effortlessly, he beat his wings to surge forward... though the little green's grace made her far more nimble than he was. It is only fitting, that so many have come to make their claim. He thought to her, twisting to avoid the cliffs without real difficulty. But can they really offer you what you need?

His eyes whirled with purple streaks now, and though he was paying attention to the other males, he dismissed and ignored them like they weren't even there.

The fact he was slower then the others didn't really bother Aresoth. He knew he was better suited for long Gold flights then the quicker Green flights, though he was still going to try and put in as much effort in as he could for Cynosuth.

He had caught the strange brown shooting past him, his eyes flecked with red as well, and Aresoth eyed the dragon. He didn't know what the brown was saying to his sweet sister, but he could tell that it had intrigued her. It caused the bronze to falter a small bit, though his pace never slowed. Was he playing this wrong? Had he assumed that sweet Cynosuth would be won over with sweet and loving words, but she preferred the strength and toughness of this brown? A small flicker of yellow moved into his eyes, mixing with the purple, though it was gone in an instant as he saw the brown snap at his sisters tail.

Red consumed Aresoth's eyes as he used his large wings to surge forward. A angry bellow escaped the bronze as he moved, though he was aware of Elzebuth already moving, and ignoring the other bronze. Aresoth would not allow that, no. Weyrless beast! If you harm the hide upon Cynosuth, I will rend your hide. He allowed his teeth to flash, he doubted the brown would take kindly to his threat, though Aresoth was willing to follow throw it. He would not allow harm to come to his dear one.

Forcing his attention back to Cynosuth, his eyes returned to purple, with some flecks of red in them. His anger was hard to hide, especially as he was on such edge, but he pushed that down, all for her. Cynosuth. He spoke her name through the opened bond with her. Sending the emotions flowing through him. Lust and the want to capture her, to hold her against him, sharing such a close moment with one another, and then there was the emotion he had been fighting with so recently. The emotion that made his hearts beat faster when he saw her, love, the want and need to be beside her, to feel her happiness and contentedness. Any words he would speak would be touched with anger for the brown, and she did not deserve to hear that, only to hear words of want and desire.

----

The sudden anger flashed through C'ryn and as he turned a corner, the young man couldn't help but punch the wall he was leaning against. His hand ached, punching a wall made of stone wasn't normally a good idea but he needed to do it. He wanted to tear that brown apart for what he had tried to do to Cynosuth, snapping at her tail like that.

A-aresoth?.. C'ryn hadn't felt anger like that through their bond, he hadn't seen Aresoth angry like that since the hatching. To feel this welling up, feeling it overcome him, making him want to punch and get into a fight with someone, he couldn't help but bite down hard on his lip, causing the skin to break and bleed.

The sooner he got to his weyr, the safer he would be.

The bronze dragon tried hard to keep up, but Cynosuth was very swift! He tried hard to quicken his pace, tried to close the distance building between him and the rest of the pack, but it wasn't very easy. Still, when she dove, he also dropped from flight, trying to chase her close to the cliffs. He wasn't worried about crashing into them, despite his dexterity being less than impressive. He could be fearless, too! If only he could catch up!

Still, his eagerness, his lust, his desire, was not insincere. Instead, he reached out to send a wave of fondness and desire back at the green. If it's passion you desire I will keep you glowing all night, pretty Cynosuth. That... that was what they wanted to hear, wasn't it? He tried to reach into his rider's mind, to find words that he could not so easily craft. Hmm. Did Cynosuth like klah? Well. He had a good one if she did!

Maybe next time. Yes. Surely, his rider wouldn't steer him wrong!

Like fuel showered on a banked fire, the sensation of the green's desire stoked the yearning flame in Efraath's hearts. That gentled touch of interest cracked, splintering like so much dry wood against the scorching heat of his unslaked thirst, which blazed through the cracks in a mental brush that raked over her, headknobs to tailtips. His hearts, his hearts were pounding, thundering in his head, and he snarled, screamed with impassioned thrill as he tucked his wings to dive after her without hesitation. That the others had caught up, that the natives knew their Weyr's terrain better, that they too were singing and calling and pleading with her—none of it mattered. He'd felt what lurked in her hearts, the longing the rest seemed oblivious too. And he was certain already that he could make the green's fire burn for him and him alone. That, or he would take it for his own, given even half a chance. And he wouldn't even try to deny it.

More will than those here by half. He purred, still trailing just behind and below her tail as she lead them through twists and darts around the jagged cliff edges. They worry about each other, they worry about who will catch you. They worry about me. Yes, he'd felt their wary glances, so concerned and distrustful. I have no worries. My will is not so weak as to falter from the chase, to waver from my want for you. His claws grazed the stony edge as they twisted through another turn, though it did not slow him nor change the heat or timbre of his ever-flowing yearning for her. Nothing could or would stop him.

I have seen more of Pern than any of them could dream of, and I would chase you the length and breadth of it to claim you for my own. A promise, a threat, it didn't make much difference. His intentions had been crystal clear from the very start.

Menankith was, indeed, not competing for her capture: the idea that she or any other was a prize to be captured was abhorrent to him, and why he was so very wary of the unfamiliar brown who had snatched at her.  It was one thing to compete for her attentions, to be chosen by her to catch her if she asked it of them, but he utterly rejected any notion of taking.  He was here for her, as he would always be, as he had promised, because he loved her dearly.

And he kept up with her without pause, without fail, no matter how tricky the flying.  Not even the sensation of confusion she sent him could make him hesitate, not when he had a promise to keep.  It did cause him confusion of his own, though, but he kept it very carefully to himself.  Perhaps...he should not have growled at the stranger-brown?  Was that why she questioned what he was about?  Or was it because he had not offered her charming words, or was it something else entirely?  In that moment, he genuinely had no idea, did not think that anything might be...at all different for him than it was for the others involved, beyond that he obviously had better manners and a clearer head than a certain other pursuer.

He kept his own counsel on all of that, and instead sent a burst of reassurance: if she wanted or needed anything from him, anything at all, he was hers to call upon. Do not worry over me, Cynosuth!  I am here should you wish it, but this is your night!  Take it, and do what you will with it, and us!

Whatever that might be, with whomever.  He would never presume to take any aspect of her decision away from her, or even to be offended by it - even if that decision was a rude brown, or even Aresoth.  It was hers, and no one else's.

To Nadry, meanwhile, something about this Flight already seemed different, although she couldn't quite place it herself. That, and it was only their second - neither of them really knew what was standard and what was not. The headrush was still there, the...feelings, but they were just different in a way she struggled to define.

...but apparently better than whatever C'ryn was dealing with, because as she happened by she couldn't help but notice him punch the wall. She flinched in sympathy for his poor hand, and wavered for a moment, considering asking him if everything was alright, but that seemed unwise on more than one count. So while she felt bad for doing so, she continued along.

There was so much more beyond him in this chase that he couldn't help but wonder. But Ulix, the true one, not the inner conscience he made for himself in his moments of separation, spoke: Get her. Forget the rest.

And after all, she sang to him. How could he not return it in kind, and more?

Oblivious for once to the other males, Argoth surged forward and down as fast as his stocky body allowed him. The cliffs were as nothing; he had spent turns twisting about them now, had had his share of bumps and bruises and claw tears to know how to navigate them. The only danger was in losing her, and he dared not.

As he dove, Argoth sang. It was a special technique he had been working on for many turns now, to sing in two voices, in harmony and tone and discord. The lilting upper note danced as Cynosuth did, while the lower note moved of its own accord, low, constant, thrumming through his body like he was a harper's instrument. It was jovial and energetic in the way only a Rising could be, in spite of its competition. He was no human, and so the music still had the roughness of a dragon's vocal chords, but no-one could say that Argoth didn't sing his hearts out then and there for her.

I will be yours, he said, like they were lyrics, even if only for tonight.

He'd been burning the midnight oil, not really bothering anyone or anything, when A'ye decided to go out and see if someone was up in the kitchens. He needed a snack and maybe a mug (or three) of klah to help him get through the paperwork.

What he didn't need was to see S'del apparently stumbling in front of him, and what he didn't need was to suddenly panic that something was wrong. Moving swiftly to the bronzerider's side, A'ye grabbed him by the arm in an attempt to get his attention. "S'del?! Are you okay?" The rider looked around to see if anyone noticed S'del's actions, and he started to tug on him. "Come on, let's get you out of here."

It was hard for even Rugareth to miss Aresoth's anger at the stranger who had almost snatched up Cynosuth already. His eyes whirled a number of colours; purple, blue, green... with added dots of yellow appearing and growing larger as he grew more worried. What was going on? Did the new brown mean her harm?

Overwhelmed, he let out a whine and looked towards Cynosuth's clutchsibs, then the stranger, and then the other dragons from the Weyr. Then he screeched, long and loud.

What's wrong? What's wrong? He didn't understand why there was so much hostility, so much tension... He called to anyone who might have been receptive to listen, Cynosuth included. He didn't understand and it scared him.

Conflict soared within Cynosuth's hearts as she tried desperately to climb back up from between the cliffs. The wind buffeted her, and she didn't know when it had stirred up. But she faltered for a moment, feeling the anger within her brother, and then... feeling Aresoth's love and lust. Feeling so many things that she'd never imagined he'd felt. But... but there was a knowledge in her hearts that although they might dally during this Flight, or she might warm his wallow, Aresoth would always chase Queens.

Love me, do you? Cynosuth asked Aresoth, almost unbelieving of what she was... feeling. But was love enough? Menankith had offered her love, yet even now did not... did not seem to want her at all! Cynosuth gave an aggrieved cry, and threw herself into the air, letting Aurinkoth's steady love buoy her.

Kindeth's amorous thoughts were also a balm to ease her wounded hearts, and she let his words encourage her... even as she felt Efraath's torrent of lust. She felt intent behind those words, and knew that she answered it. She would gladly twine tails with a number of these males. Menankith did not wish to capture her, and yet she wished to be caught. Shouldn't her choice count for anything? She repudiated the notion that she might be unwilling.

How much more willing must she be? She had all but thrown herself at them, needing something far more substantial than sweet promises. After all of the time she had suffered, she needed... she needed...

She needed those bodice rippers that Macuith had always spoken of. She shared her conflict, confusion, and hurt with her dear brother, who was not present, but yet knew what was in her hearts. She wanted, desperately badly, to be loved. And yet... it seemed that she could not be loved fully!

Dancing just barely out of reach, she listened to the sweet song of Argoth, and trilled back at him in return. Her voice was not nearly so lovely, but still... it was pleasant, and it was nice to sing with another. Sing to me, then.

To Efraath she sent another gilded invitation, a heat that burned hotter than the stars in the sky. But she sent the same to Aresoth, and to Elzebuth. What can you offer me? she asked them, twirling and twisting in the air. She was tired, unsurprisingly, but not ready to give up.

Oh Rugareth, please do not fret, my dear! All is well!

Her cry caused his hearts to tighten for a moment, twisting in the air as he moved to follow after her. No! This was not the flight she deserved! While not close enough to grab her up and whisk her away, Aurinkoth drew as close as he dared to Cynosuth, offering soft kreels and his continuing supporting affection.

It did not matter to him if she fell into his claws - though there was a part of him that would very much like that. No, he still wanted her when it was just the two of them seated on a ledge with soft soothing words and comfort. Now, in her moment of anguish at the errant eyes of their brothers, he offered attention that was for her and her only.

You have always been the brightest star in my sky, Cynosuth. I am here only for you, though I do not know if I have any means to woo you - and perhaps doing so would be all for me. Even if I should not - cannot - dance with you in the sky, that will not change.

Do not let that burden you! My love is a gift, and I only desire it to be air under your wings as you fly.

Honesty, at least, but it was given brightly and without fear. Rejection would not change his hearts - and he would never hold it against her.
