Good, their soquili counterparts were up on their feet again. She flapped her wings hard, swooping away just in time -- the Queen's claws swiped through the air, barely missing her. Well, if that didn't get her heart racing, nothing could. She circled up above to observe the others take their turns. They could hit much harder than she and Zela could.
Desdemona grinned at her stallion ally; it was good to fight along side someone who could keep up, could stay on the same page without frequent verbal communication. She was ready to fight, and when Mizuko moved away Desdemona was there in her place, leaping onto Queen and knocking her to the ground. Death's Queen was back on her feet again in a flash, but it still filled Desdemona with hope -- she could be beaten! Together, they would end this! |

Desdemona: 30 - 10 = 20 HP
Jelenice: 30 - 10 = 20 HP
Death's Queen: 6 - 6 = KO!
The Queen stumbled after slashing Jelenice's back, and Desdemona saw her opening. She leaped onto the Queen's back, crushing her to the ground beneath her weight. She shrieked and writhed beneath her, but Desdemona didn't let her up -- she latched her teeth high up onto the back of the Queen's neck, just below her skull, and twisted her head sharply. When she let go, the Queen flopped to the ground, lifeless. Desdemona stood up on shaky legs, letting out a breathless laugh. It was finally over. Now they could return to the Forgemaster... and get some very well deserved rest.
She stepped over the Queen's body, moving closer to Jelenice. "You fought well," she said, though her grin was tired.
Mizuko landed and wandered over to inspect the Queen's body, just to make sure she was dead. The way her neck was twisted, she doubted it -- but she wanted to make sure for herself to put her own mind at ease. She heaved a sigh of relief. The job was done. That had been... a lot harder than she had expected it would be.
But they made it. |

Zela gave out a short, but happy shriek when she realized what had happened. They slain the Queen! With this, she quickly gave both Mizuko and Desdemona a kiss on the forehead before collapsing onto Jelenice's head. She would rest and he would bring her back to the Forgemaster.
Jelenice heaved, trembling as the mare approached him. For a second, he thought that Desdemona was the Queen, so notice that the Queen was still. "How... you..." he managed to spill out of his mouth before taking the time to formulate his words.
"You fought like a true fighter, Desdemona," he said with sincerity. "I am honored to have been alongside the both of you," he said, now looking at Mizuko. "Fly high, I'm pretty sure that we have just grown some enemies. Enemies that we probably do not even know of yet."

Desdemona's eyes widened -- all six of them -- in shock at Jelenice's kind words. It was the last thing she had expected to hear from him, considering how grumpy he had seemed when they had first met. The grin on her face widened and she couldn't help but giggle. "Why, you flatterer, you," she teased with a wink, bumping her shoulder against Jelenice's -- only to immediately regret it, pain throbbing in her shoulder. "Ow, ow, ow -- bad idea," she whined, rolling her shoulder to try and get rid of the soreness. "Time to go lick our wounds, I guess. I know you're probably eager to abandon us, but if you just so happen to take the same path we do back to the Forgemaster, we wouldn't say no to the company."
Mizuko jerked her head back when Zela kissed her forehead, surprised, and after she blinked a few times she sighed and smiled. She couldn't be annoyed when she was in this good of a mood, and besides, Zela's energy and silly antics helped keep the mood a little lighter after a gruesome battle. "Thank you, all of you," she said, bowing to the group. "I hope this is the last of it, but I agree -- it would be good to stay on our guard. For now, though, all I want to do is head back to the forge." |
