Karone's certainty went a long way with Kinye who in spite of being Weyrborn was not the most familiar with young firelizards. Falling in alongside him, she tucked the shell into one of her pockets. "One for me?" It was better to check if one of the soggy meatrolls could be used by her or if she'd need to grab an offering of her own real quick.

It was somehow more nerve wrecking than the baby dragons.

As people gathered around the firelizard nests and the smell of meat struck their little nostrils, the hatchlings’ piercing cries intensified and they began to spill out of the debris-covered scoops their mothers had dug, some of them tumbling as they awkwardly clambered down the other side.

One such tumbler was a mottled green, and she went head over tail and came to rest against Melhaika’s foot. She latched onto him with her tiny talons and creeled hungrily to be fed, faceted eyes rotating shades of red and orange. Now would be nice, she seemed to say.

Lusialu

The young girl couldn't believe her luck and good fortune! Of all the times to be at the beach, there were not one, but two fire-lizard clutches breaking shell. And Vaali and she had found them! Meatroll in hand, the girl crouched low, and stretched out her arm, hoping she might entice one of the little creeling babes to her. Part of her wanted to find Vaali, but between all the Candidates present, and riders coming in fast, the girl didn't dare move.

"Come on little sweeties, we're all waiting for you," she spoke softly, encouragingly. Happy thoughts. Dragons seemed to like such things, perhaps it would be good to think kindly and softly at the little firelizards, too?

Still, her eyes did drift up and over the growing crowd. Was it wrong of her to be so close? Should she have stayed back and let some of the other Candidates and riders closer? Well, it was too late now; she'd wait a few moments, if nothing else, and see if she had any luck. Maybe one would find her meatroll offering worthy... or not. All she could do now was wait.

“Of course there’s one for you, Kinye. I’m not that selfish, am I?” his laugh was gently taunting. He gingerly handed one of the somewhat goopy rolls to her, then worked on taking the meat out of the other. He had it ready to place under the nose of any hatchling that wanted it by the time they got close enough.

Mirce

She was there....just, quietly. A small shadow of a girl had come as soon as she'd heard the news, wondering if she might have a chance. There were so many people already present, but for some reason or another Mirce felt like she should at least give it a try. Her beloved dragon echoed the feelings as he moved away from her, settling in the shadow of a larger dragon.

Nervously, quietly, Mirce moved and took out the small bits of meat she'd managed to snag from her meal before heading out; would flitters mind something that had been nibbled on before? She hoped not.

Aroontwa

Aroontwa was about to respond when Veikel inched away. Waving goodbye and giving two thumbs up in encouragement, a “hope you get one!” came out anyway. He pulled some jerky out of a pocket that had been handed to him as he had been whisked away. Got to feed the babies! He held a little out questioningly. How close do you need to be?

"Maybe you'd want a snack," Kinye teased back, bumping her shoulder into his, "just set it out in the sun and see if it dries out?" Or perhaps that would just attract the firelizards away from all of them. As she spoke, she carefully peeled the meat from the roll - unfortunately in pieces that she carefully tucked into her fist in case of curious hungry mouths.

Though that left her with what to do with the goopy non-meat. She ultimately tossed it into the water - the fish could enjoy it, perhaps.

One little flit noticed movement. MOVEMENT! Its head swayed almost spasmodically as it followed the waving of hands far and away above its relatively minuscule form. Its prey drive was activated, and it scrambled in jerky movements toward the big thing that had caught its attention. Speaking of jerky… what a coincidence!

The bitty bronze let out a baby growl, blinking at Aroontwa’s offering for just a moment before deciding it would be just the thing to fill his gurgling stomach.

Candidate Nalacko

Nalacko felt everyone was a bit jumpy with the spring blues. Was it coming? Was it not coming? The weather at the weyr couldn't seem to make up it's mind. It came somewhat as a relief when the candidatemaster n co. decided the candidates had earned (or maybe for their own sanity?) an extra rest day. Somewhere warm. She was rather pleased to learn they would have a picnic on a warm beach.

Nala loaded up with the others on the dragons assigned to transport them. She held Vine closely for she wouldn't leave her friend out. The teen heaved a happy sigh as they appeared in the warm air. Thanking her ride she headed off. She didn't really know any of the candidates but she figured now would be a good time to try to make some new friends.

She hung out around one group for awhile then went for a snack. Nala was surprised when two girls came running up and grabbing for meat rolls. She sat for a moment, taking in what the girls had said. Two firelizard clutches? From the way they were acting, she assumed they were hatching. She glanced at Vine and smiled. "Shall we go try our luck?" An encouraging hum came from the green.

With a chuckle, the teen grabbed a couple meatrolls for herself and followed after the pair. She started breaking one into several pieces. At her leisurely pace, some firelizards had already impressed. But she already had Vine, so she didn't mind too much.


Banashe and Brown Severith

There were worst things than being assigned to convey a bunch of candidates to the beach. Banashe stretched out in the shade after she'd disembarked her trio of candidates onto the sand. Let the kids run around and play. This was really the first time they'd been let out after Severith had lost his eye. There had been much practicing on their part in learning to fly again.

You are not so far removed from some of them. Perhaps you should run around too. The brown commented as he swiveled his head to eye his rider with his one good eye. "Ha! In this heat? No thank you. A nice nap is right up my alley." You can take a dip in the water to cool off later.

"Nah." Maybe she wanted to do something, but that really wasn't it. She sensed the brown's attention shift as he looked toward some commotion. How about impressing a firelizard instead then? Seems there are a couple clutching hatching over there.

Banshe sat up and removed the broad frond that was covering her face and providing shade from the sun. "Firelizards you say? Hmmmmm it might be fun to have one." The teen got up and brushed the sand from her pants, then sauntered over to pick out some meatrolls before joining the rest. While they rushed though, she strolled.

Once there she found a spot for herself and held out a piece of meatroll. With how many people were here, she hoped there would be some left over for her.
