Ilzerin - he/him
Ilzerin listened quietly to F'dral's instructions, occasionally glancing over his fellow Candidates. Whether they all had the sense and class to do as they were told remained to be seen, but he hoped they would. Not out of any concern for them - if someone did something stupid, after all, they deserved whatever consequences came their way - but out of concern for the eggs, and knowing that if someone really fouled things up, the Touching would be over for all of them, and that wouldn't do at all.
When his turn came, he bowed deeply to Zenobiath and Aresoth, and when he straightened and moved on had to flip his long braid back behind his shoulder. Now. Where to start? He quickly singled out someone with no visitors yet, and moved to lay a cool, long-fingered hand on the shell of the Candy Cane egg.
Quite a bold look you have going here, my friend. I like it. Not that the dragonet inside needed his approval, or had any say in what it was 'wearing,' or was even the only one with a statement of a shell, but there was no harm in an honest compliment.
Nashwa - she/her
Fully cognizant that she was a guest, and that Western in general was still on somewhat shaky ground with High Reaches, Nashwa was on her best behavior...not that she wouldn't have been regardless, but the circumstances kept it at the forefront of her mind. She stood straight and attentive while they were spoken to, eyes never wandering from High Reaches' Candidatemaster, and when the time came, gave the most proper of bows to the clutchparents and their riders: no flourish, but all respect.
Keeping in mind that they weren't to crowd the eggs, she headed first to the Red and Green Present egg with careful, measured strides. Honored to make your acquaintance, she started with, ever courteous, and welcomed whatever response or investigation the dragonet inside might wish.

Tonori - he/him
Tonori stood toward the back of the High Reaches candidates, a silent looming presence, as usual. He listened with the same graven expression to the candidatemaster's instructions as he did most everything, giving no indication that he had heard these instructions several times before at various hatchings. Each of those times he had followed the instructions carefully and avoided being the cause of any incidents. He intended to do the same this time.
After a respectful bow to the young gold and her bronze companion, Tonori made his way to the candy cane egg. The smaller and larger eggs surrounding it already had candidates pausing and brushing their fingertips and palms against their curved surfaces, and Tonori's choice was largely prompted by a desire not to be in anyone's way, though he found that before he arrived he was preempted by Ilzerin, one of the few candidates - or, indeed people - who outstripped Tonori in height. The former miner waited until Ilzerin moved away before making his own contact.
His hands, large as they were, could not quite span a single stripe on the egg, and so he rested one palm on a red section and his fingers on a white one, fitting his hand against the hardening shell and clearing his thoughts. This was one aspect of candidacy at which he had proven fairly skilled, as it bore a striking resemblance to one's mental state while standing at a guard post. He simply waited, receptive.
Ara - she/her
Another trip on dragonback! In the back of her mind Ara had been aware that in order to be present at other Weyrs' hatchings, she would have to be transported to those other Weyrs, and she had, of course, known that there was a clutch on the sands at High Reaches, but somehow the new Western candidate had simply not put together the fact that she would be traveling by dragon to achieve these ends. And she'd had no idea until the Western candidatemaster brought it up that there even was such a thing as a Touching.
It should have been difficult for the young woman to quell her excitement, even after the frigid splash of nothingness that was between, but Ara had been well-schooled in behaving well and properly, and so the most obvious outward sign of her delight at everything was the way she tucked her chin to hide the barest curve of a smile. She knew that candidates from Western were expected to be on their very best behavior, and while she doubted anyone would be offended if she smiled at her situation, she had decided not to risk it. Dragons were magnificent, mysterious beings, after all.
Her bow coming onto the sands was awkward: Ara had been used to dropping curtsies as a drudge, when the occasion called for it, but bowing had not been a skill required of her. She fumbled momentarily for skirts that were not there before remembering herself and ducking something between a bow and a curtsy of which she was not at all proud.
The first egg she touched was the Santa egg, which attracted her with its bright red and contrasting band of black. In a way it reminded her of her life at the Weyr: full of color and excitement, but with the ever-present reminder that the best possible outcome - Impressing a dragon - would mean risking her life and the life of her dragon bond fighting Thread. Oop! Not supposed to be thinking bad thoughts, and for humans at least Thread was definitely not a good thought. She didn't really know where it fell for dragons, but probably not in the category of "please remind these unhatched babies that they may one day die fighting an enemy from the sky." If Ara was a mother, she wouldn't want people thinking those thoughts at her children.
Sorry about that, she thought to the egg. I saw you from all the way across the sands, and I'm so excited to be here, touching you. Nobody in my family for as long as...well...ever has had this kind of an honor.
Abruptly, Ara realized she was probably being too chatty now and drew down what amounted to a mental curtain of general goodwill and cheer - the same thing she did working in public places as a drudge. She did not stop marveling at the vibrant egg beneath her fingers though. She was touching a dragon egg!

Candidate Rahmsii: HR he/him
Rahmsii ran through every scrap of candidate lessons in his mind. He knew the drill - listening to every instruction carefully , he really did. It never hurt to play it safe and to reaffirm what he knew, to keep the littlest creep of stage fright away from his thoughts. These lovely babies, eggs, deserved to sense him at his finest. A deep breath soothed him as he stepped lightly across the sand, bowing respectfully to Zenobiath.
He eyes looked over the eggs, a small smile tugging at his lips. Before they knew it they would hatch into strong, beautiful lovelies and he would be endlessly excited for them. He stopped at Red & Green Striped Paper Egg, admiring its beautiful shell.
Rahmsii gently touched his fingers to the shell. I hope your warm enough, you certainly look cozy!
==
Candidate Urzoh: HR she/her
Urzoh had a little skip to her step. She did a little excited hop as she listened to the instructions. She'd leap up and down, wanting to terribly, but she could behave herself dangit She composed herself, listening and nodding along. Slightly fidgeting showing her barely contained excitement. She has been to touchings - to hatchungs and they never grew any less exciting.
With a respectful bow to the clutch mother, she whispered a quiet thanks as well. She looked a few moments. Taking in the patterns and shapes of the shell. Such a strong looking clutch!
Lump of Coal Egg caught her eye. Her thoughts warm, delighted as she approached. Her hand softly resting on the shell. "You're the first egg i wanted to say hello to! I hope that's okay."

Ruunan [HR] - 17 - he/him/his - App Woodcrafter/Candidate
His heart beat a frantic rhythm in his chest. This pain he felt, the tightness in his face, the desperate desire to breathe like a normal person… he knew it was just his nerves playing up. He’d gotten used to the mounting worry with every touching, every hatching he attended… he still saw and felt things he wished would stay in the dark of memories forgotten.
But Ruunan glanced over his shoulder; the sight of Mictecath lounging on the fireheights was reassuring, and knowing that his sister was always there for him… well, it helped. He turned his attention back to F’dral, for T’nus’ words, even now, lingering in the back of his mind. He could do this. It was this or make furniture for the rest of his life- which was okay, but… but was that really what he wanted? No. Not really. But it was a good thing to hide behind and never feel the sting of failu-
focus.
F’dral’s instructions were heeded. As the candidates entered the sands, Ruunan bowed low, murmuring his thanks to Zenobiath and Aresoth, and well-wishes to the clutch. It looked healthy, and was a good size for a maiden flight, or so went the rumours. He took a deep breath, letting a caramel gaze sweep the eggs in the hopes of some tingling sense of connection or draw…
After a few careful steps, Ruunan laid his hand on the shell of The Starry Night Egg, smiling slightly in a mixture of awe and appreciation. “Hello… it’s good to meet you all at last.”

Rykin
Rykin had always been nervous when stepping out onto the hatching sands, but for the first time, he felt as though he might have had a reason to be. When he allowed himself to get particularly maudlin, he imagined he could feel little Yoneth's claws and teeth digging into his neck over and over again, but in truth, those memories were as dull as his scratches after numbweed. Any residual fright had been eased away by one of Western's mindhealers, so although he had a right to be apprehensive this time, he felt a whole lot of nothing instead. Nothing save for the faint pulse of doubt that told him he shouldn't be here at all.
After lingering over his bow to Zenobiath and Aresoth, he nodded sharply at Ruunan and cast a wide arc around his not-so-little nieces to end up in front of the String of Lights Egg. His head remained lowered as he touched it, offering the dragon inside a burst of warmth and a drawling, Hello.

Ding Dong Bell Egg Almost immediately, Kaiator would feel the egg shift--hard--against his touch. The being inside wastes no time rifling through the Candidates mind--a strange sensation to be sure. There's a sense of judgment, but also a growing sense of amusement. Hmm. What's this? Tut tut. And what of--mmph. Really now... Is this the best High Reaches can offer?
Rudolph Egg Leiheti would feel a passing interest, and a cordial enough response. The egg would give a small little wiggle. It is indeed a good day, being a very good egg and doing all the eggly things an egg is supposed to. And how is Leiheti? Is she happy to be here too?
Snowman Egg ...hmm? What's this? Is it time already? Oh, h-hello! Aroontwa would find the egg press against his hand, and a tender touch of what could only be mental snooping. Are you meant to be the one for me?
Lump of Coal Egg Ew. Ew. Ew. Remove thy hand and theyself from this egg. The rebuff happens almost as soon as Kinyegele's fingers brush against the shell Just who on Pern do you think you are anyway? Shoo.
Red and Green Striped Paper Egg If you're going to touch an egg than touch an egg right! There was a deep sense of exasperation within the egg and poor Dorok would find himself in the midst of a checklist of demands. Keep stroking--what is this two-stroke and stop movement? If this is how the day is going to go, then no, it isn't a lucky day in the least. I am here to be touched, and to be touched I plan to be!
Holly Egg Helloooo!! Hello, hello, howdy, hello! Greetings. Hello! The egg would practically tremble in excitement, and wrap Tandry up in nothing but pleasure and good cheer. It's going great! Fantastic. Super better than awesome! Are there more of you? Is it just one? Is this it? Are you it? What's your name? Are you having a good day? Are you here to be touched too? What a new and exciting thing! HELLO!
Snowman Egg Alisaide would feel a gentle brush of acknowledgment, though it wouldn't seem to respond at first. Finally, after a moment, it would cordially agree--it is a good spot. Nevermind that Zenobiath was the one to roll it to this position--who was this egg to argue?
Blue Ornament Egg Haveli would find a tender touch only too eager to meet her. Warmth, kindness, and welcome would wrap around the Candidate immediately, akin to a tender hug. Is there something this egg can do for you? Its eagerness to aid Haveli however she might need s palpable and true.
Lump of Coal Egg The egg seems to consider Rhys a moment longer than the previous Candidate, but only just. And who do you think you are? Did I say you could touch my shell? No one consulted me about what my plans were today, thankyouvermuch, but sure, go ahead and think how nice this is. Hmph.
String of Lights Egg Eyriean would find absolutely no judgment in the egg. Instead, they would find warmth beneath their touch, and firm assurance and comfort. Nothing to fear here! Take a deep breath, calm yourself, and know that you are just as welcome as anyone. You're wonderful just the way you are.
String of Lights Egg No sooner had Eyriean had approached, than so too did Chakuri. The warmth and assurance given the other Candidate was immediately wrapped tenderly about the young girl. Oh, this egg was absolutely delighted to meet so many others--especially if they're anything like Chakuri! If any of the others give you a hard time, you're always welcome to return.
Rudolph Egg Liniyah's consideration would be met with the equivalent of an egg grunt--followed by a soft wave of warmth. No need to worry about this egg being left out--it's more than content to wait its turn.
The Blue Ornament Egg Oranie would find nothing but happiness returned tenfold. Nothing to be scared of--you can do it! They're all just eggs, after all, and this one is happy to help you through! Am I your first egg? Is this a good first egg meeting? There's an underlying excitement at the fact that maybe, this is a good first experience for t.he Candidate.
The Blue Ornament Egg Not one, not two, but now three!
Any anxiousness that Elibrie might feel would be wrapped up and tucked away by quite the eager egg. Hello to you! You're doing wonderful at this touching thing and surely find great eggs and new friends and---!! This little egg is happy to meet you--and that was the truth. There was nothing but pleasure radiating from the egg, and it would absolutely overwhelm the nervous girl.
Candy Cane Egg Of course it's a bold look... You can't draw the eye by being bland. There's a sensation that runs over at the Candidate that seems akin to a smug, satisfactory feeling. You're meeting the best of the bunch, but surely a Candidate with any taste at all would know that. So said, the egg would give Ilzerin nothing but genuine approval and a warmth of pleasure.
Candy Cane Egg That's it? No greeting? No compliments? Nothing? It was clear there was disappointment in Tonori's initial approach, but it doesn't necessarily give him a negative response, either. You have got to work on your game, my man. When you enter a room, you enter a room. A first impression only happens once, after all. Now why not back up and try that again, hmm?
Red & Green Striped Paper The egg was immediate in its response. It would be cozier if you would tuck some more sand up against the side of its shell. The Candidates walking past have disturbed its wallow and that is too unfortunate! Go on now. Dig up the sand and tuck this egg back in like it demands. About three inches now, and only on the right side. Well whatever are you waiting for? The exasperation that Dorok had been given was now being dumped entirely onto poor Rahmsii.
Lump of Coal Egg No! No it's not okay at all, Urzoh. Remove your grubby little hands and find some other egg. Honestly. If this is how the day is going to go, this egg is going to be irate for the next twenty Turns. Huff. Begone now. Shoo. Go bother someone else.
Holly Egg Nalacko might have been apprehensive but this egg certainly wasn't. Hello! Hello! New Candidate! New Candidate! The egg practically shoved the girl over with its enthusiasm and genuine pleasure in meeting her. It is indeed warm but then this egg hasn't been anything but warm since its existence! Is it hatch time yet? The egg itself would give a massive wriggle, and lurch just enough so it seemed to start to tilt. Oh boy!
Snowman Egg Another one? Oh my. Are you the Candidate I'm looking for? Rundanrul would get a soft touch, but little else as the egg seems to consider this new individual near its egg. Unfortunately, if Rundanrul expected anything more, they would be disappointed.
String of Lights Egg Rykin's greeting would be met with nothing but the softest and most gentle of touches. Oh! Oh my! Hello there. Welcome. Unsure what else to say or do the egg would brush against the young man's hand. Reassurance, comfort, and welcome would radiate from the egg like heat from a fire. No need to distance yourself. Not from this egg, at least.

Caroling Note Egg
Well. Caroling Note Egg considered Divisti's question. It was in an egg. How did she think it was? A hint of amusement colored the egg's brush of thoughts, as well as mild and gentle curiosity. Was she in an egg, too?
Elf Stockings Egg
Was that so? The egg seemed quietly pleased about Nuamia's opinion, although it wasn't clear that the egg would mind either way. In fact, Nuamia might get the sense that it wouldn't be bothered at all if nobody was pleased. That would be just fine.
Starry Night Egg
Was the egg supposed to be impressed? (Pun fully intended.) You should be honored to be in my presence, the egg informed Kahbrohm. Who did he think he was? The Starry Night Egg was the main event. Was Kahbrohm? Spoiler: no.
If Kahbrohm was the best boy on the Sands, the egg was going to be severely disappointed.
Starry Night Egg
In fact it was looking forward to meeting its bondmate. Whenever that stellar individual had the decency to grace it with their presence. Something told the egg that it was going to be a long, long day. Didn't Heida have something better to do than disappoint them both?
Gingerbread Egg
O-oh, it... it would like very much to choose someone like him as its lifemate, but... wouldn't he like an egg with. Well. Anyway. Another egg, an egg more deserving? Surely he needn't fret himself over the egg. It could wait its turn.
Gingerbread Egg
A tiny squeak of surprise met Lelte's touch, but then the egg quieted, retreating a little so that it could 'listen' to her thoughts. How... how very kind, but surely... wasn't all of this kindness wasted upon it?
Starry Night Egg
Not particularly, at this point. Had she seen the quality of Candidate available to it? It! The wonderful and glorious Starry Night Egg. Why, it was as if no one of any note had decided to show up to this, the Starry Night Egg's very first Touching! How rude.
Snowflake Egg
HELLO! Yes, it was nice to meet her too! Weird how everyone seemed to be lining up for that egg, but they didn't know what it knew. Anyway. It sent warm, pleasant thoughts at Tuelarua. After all, it did like the attention, there was no denying that.
Snowflake Egg
HI! What was it supposed to do with nothing, though? Maybe she should think about something and then it could tell her what it thought about that, huh?
...
...
Was she going to saying anything? Come on. Give it something to work with, here.
Christmas Tree Egg
An honor and a privilege! No doubt shared, of course. How kind of Dehka to come. It approved of the way he seemed to admire its family. I intend to do great things, it told him softly, with a touch of encouragement. For indeed, there was no shaking this egg. It emanated confidence for all nearby to feel.
Elf Stockings Egg
The egg sent a quiet greeting right back. Charming little event, wasn't it? But he seemed almost bored. That was all right. It hadn't expected to be exciting, after all.
Red and Green Present Egg
The honor was all its, of course. What a pleasure to meet such a wonderfully polite Candidate! The egg seemed particularly pleased, humming softly to itself. Why, it had hardly done anything at all to deserve such a greeting. It had only been shelled, after all. But it would take it. It would most certainly take it.
Santa Egg
Yet Ara's first thoughts might have been an echo of its own. The egg was fully aware, it seemed, that Impression meant putting itself at risk. My life and fate will be determined either way, whether I Impress or do not. Yours... is full of possibilities. Gently, the egg seemed to almost 'pat' Ara on the mental hand. Delightful to meet you, my dear. I am sure you are worthy of the honor.
Snowflake Egg
Is that all anyone is going to say to me? the Snowflake Egg said, with an increasingly strained note. It was fine, MOM, okay? But NOBODY wanted to say anything interesting, and it just wanted to CELEBRATE BEING ALIVE! Didn't anyone want to celebrate with it? HELLO! Yes, it knew how to say hello. Didn't anyone know how to say anything else?
Christmas Tree Egg
Jemaselle would receive a brush of consideration, but ultimately the infant within the shell would tender its regrets. As lovely as she was, it could tell she was a bit distracted right now, and it didn't mind if she wanted to move on to the next egg. They had had their moment, after all.
Starry Night Egg
Finally, the respect it so richly deserved. At last indeed! For he had no doubt waited with bated breath for the Starry Night Egg to arrive. Surely it was worthy such esteem. Do, pray, continue. It liked the way that this conversation was tending, and wanted to hear more.

[ candidate kaiator - he/him - HR ]
Ah. So this one had--some superiority, did it? He could respect that. Whatever dragon lay curled within that shell would find its match, and he hoped that they would would be a perfect pair. Kaiator could at the very least wish it that much. (Is this the best High Reaches can offer? Bold. Very bold.) Openness and love, he reminded himself as he pulled his hand away from the shell. Openness. And. Love.
The next egg he approached was the Holly Egg, a significantly smaller egg to be sure, but it was situated quite close, conveniently enough--he had to hope that this one didn't have quite so much attitude as the last. Kaiator prepared the same warm welcome, albeit perhaps the tiniest bit less certain of himself this time. Is it cozy in there? You seem rather comfortable, tucked up against your siblings like that.
[ candidate alisaide - they/he - HR ]
Oh, that one was--sleepy, perhaps. That was fine! They understood needing a minute to wake up, and they certainly weren't going to begrudge the dragonet that much when they weren't even born yet. Alisaide hoped the Snowman would be able to feel the welcoming warmth they were sure was coming from their fellow candidates around them. Maybe it would help them perk up a little? Alisaide gave the Snowman Egg one more gentle pat before moving on, having to pause again for a moment before spotting the next egg to catch their eye. The Red and Green Striped Paper Egg was at the top of their list, and they carefully picked their way through the rest of the clutch until they arrived at its side. You have a beautiful shell! They hoped complimenting the dragon inside was in good taste--it really was genuine. I bet you're even prettier than the outside, though. I'm really excited to be able to meet you!

Kinyegele - Female, She/Her
Oh.
Kinye retracted her hand immediately, like she'd been burned or bitten at. But there was no ill will to the gesture. "Thank you for what time you let me have," she bid out loud, stepping back from the black shelled egg sheepishly. Then another step back to consider the landscape a little more. She'd move on to someone who perhaps would be....more eager to meet her.
Someone like....
Making sure to not brush against the Coal Egg again, Kinye instead took some careful steps to settle in with a palm against Santa Egg. I hope it is okay to say hello. Even if perhaps she would get lost in a flood of greetings that were given out that day. That would be okay - it deserved to be fawned and hoped over. -----
Kahbrohm - Male, He/Him
A slight smile twitched at Kahbrohm's lips. The main event, was it? It was this egg's loss that it disregarded him so quickly, then. Especially in favor of - the tempted smile twisted into a frown as he looked over at the others who had also come to make their introductions.
Maybe it would reconsider later when the side dishes didn't look so appealing.
There was no scuff on his pride as he moved on to the next egg, taking a quiet look at the others who had already made point to greet it - Candy Cane Egg it would be. Getting popular already - that's a good look. At least to Kahbrohm it was.
------
Dorok - Male, He/Him
"Oh!" Dorok actually expressed his surprise at the forward nature of the little egg out loud. It was charmingly needy - or at least very specific about the kinds of things it wanted. You'll have plenty of people who are more than happy to give you all of the attention you'll want, he assured...but it would not be him.
Perhaps disappointingly, he retracted his hand after one more fond pat to the little egg's shell and it was off to meet the next egg - Snowman Egg. Is everybody treating you well? His thoughts would remain manicured for the sake of the best up front appearance he could give, but he wanted to make sure the others were doing the same. He'd tolerate no trouble.

Rundanrul - Western
The gentle presence within the egg didn't do much to excite Rundanrul. He gave the shell a little pat to hopefully keep the dragon within from getting overwhelmed - it seemed the type, really - before moving on. His eyes scanned the pile of eggs critically, knowing full well that large eggs didn't mean large dragons. He knew he was destined for a great partner, but greatness could come in many sizes. Colors, however, were another matter.
Making his way to the Lump of Coal Egg, Rundanrul pressed his hand to the small, dark shell.
Hello. You're pretty small, but great things can come is very tiny packages.
---
Versha - HR
Despite not having Stood before, Versha was ready. She and her sister had been studying together for a few months now and she was eager to take part in a Touching to see what it was all about. Stories from the last one hadn't shaken her, nor the one before than, both of which had been rather interesting affairs. Danger was something that got her heart pumping and adrenaline coursing through her body, and while there wouldn't be anything dangerous at this part of the Candidate process (unless someone made the gold angry), she couldn't help but feel that excitement welling up within her.
Glancing beside her as they were lectured (no one had even done anything wrong this time! Last time yes, but this time no! Sheesh!), Versha gave her sister a long-suffering stare. They were completely innocent in the matter, yet here they were getting an earful. A subtle shift of her hand and flick of her fingers would tell Verica and no one else that she was excited but trying to hold it all together, her feet itching to get out among the eggs.
Finally they were allowed entry and Versha had to stop herself from running out onto the sands. She grabbed Verica's hand to ground herself a bit, knowing that wouldn't end well, and together they moved with the group. The size of the eggs surprised her once she spotted them and it gave her pause for only a moment before she remembered to bow to the queen who had laid them, her hand sliding from her sister's now that her racing heart was settling. They had a job to do.
Curious eyes roved over the eggs before her feet took her towards one of the paler ones, snowflakes adorning the shell. She trusted her sister would follow and she waited for her to approach the Snowflake Egg before reaching out to touch it simultaneously with Verica.
What a gorgeous shell you have. I can only imagine you're quite gorgeous yourself. I'm excited to meet you, little one, both today and whenever you and your siblings decide it's time.
