61-70: You're fishing with a pole today, standing on the small floating dock. You see the bobber go under, and pull up hard. Sure enough, there's a whopper at the end of the line. It's a fight, and you can tell you've snagged the largest packtail you've ever seen. Unfortunately you yank too hard and the line snaps. Not only is your pole now useless, but the big one gets away. Worse, your fishing luck the rest of the sevenday seems to follow suit... You wind up with a whole lot of nothin'. -10 points
Though he wasn't quite sure how adept he'd be to fishing, Amrit had been determined to try and make the most of helping the Weyr. Western was his home now, his heart was full of love. Things he'd only once dreamed of, and.. perhaps his romantic heart was too in the clouds and should have been planted on the dock.
As soon as the bobber went under, Amrit gave the fishing pole a fierce tug -- and the sheer delight as he spied the shimmering scales of a packtail fighting against him. But he pulled back to hard, and he's startled back as the delicate line snapped, and sent the bronzerider sprawling back onto his backside. At least it hadn't snapped the pole, but embarrassment flooded through him -- even at Chirakumath's gentle encouragement. No, he had to do better.

71-80: You're doing all right! The haul you bring in is modest, but every little bit helps. Roll a D4 to see what you managed to gather from the sea! +5 points
Yellowstripe and Whitefish over here! Those'll sure be tasty with some citrus, over rice, or in a lovely stew.
It wasn't much, but it was something! Zexear gave a loud whoop, bouncing in place a moment as he studied the small fish. Yellowstripe and whitefish, it was at least edible! He'd try harder next time, maybe even get lucky with some of the larger fish. Deepfish? Packtail? Yum..
Diardith chuckled from his wallow, the amusement soft and lazy.
71-80: You're doing all right! The haul you bring in is modest, but every little bit helps. You caught a haul full of a school of fingertails. +5 points
This was familiar territory for Z'haq, fishing; he'd grown up in a seacot and before he'd become a full-fledged hand on his father's schooner, he helped with the fishing. He knew the best way to harvest the sea's bounty was with a net, so he acquired one and went down to the beach to try his fortunes.
With a practiced ease he tossed the net out as far as it would go, holding onto the long end so he could haul it back in. After a few beats, he began to drag the net in, gratified to feel a weighty resistance. He threw his back into it, and finally the catch revealed itself: an entire school of fingertails! The Flightleader laughed as he hauled the full net onto the shore. "See, Eo, I haven't lost my touch," he grinned at his big bronze.

31-40: Surely you have a knack for this, for the water is teaming with sea life. You head out with a few others to fish the deeper waters, and lo and behold, you successfully return with none other than a massive deepfish! It was a fight to catch, but outside of being covered in saltwater and seafoam, you're practically a hero! Deepfish! Deepfish! +20 points
Sorsha viewed fishing for the Weyr as something of an adventure, something different than the everyday routine. And she was going to have fun with it! She had gathered a few others and headed out to the deeper waters off shore to try their luck; sitting on gold Leoth's massive shoulders, this felt more like a picnic than a chore.
She threw her line into the water and waited. Soon after she felt a tug on her fishing rod, followed by a second, much larger pull. "I got something!" she shouted. "Something big" One of the boys swam over to help her wrestle with whatever it was she had caught. It seemed like the fight took forever, tossing up spray and seafoam stirred up by the battle.
But what a prize Sorsha finally hauled up! "DEEPFISH!" she crowed loudly so everyone could hear. It was a monstrously huge deepfish on the end of her line! Casgar would be very happy with this!

1-10. You don't know exactly what happened, but somehow you have wound up tangled up in a fishing net, out in the middle of the ocean. You thrash around and try hard to free yourself, but all you wind up doing is breathing in the salt-water. Thankfully, you're fished out by your fellows, untangled from the net, and dragged back to shore. Outside of being a little traumatized, roll a D4 to see what the results of your poor fishing happened to be!
You are feeling miserable. Your nose stings, you're nauseous from drinking up so much salt water, and you're a bit cut up from the hooks. To make it worse, you've lost the net in its entirety, and now need to go to the infirmary to get the hooks removed and ensure they don't get infected. Blargh. What a day. [-15 points]
If you are a rider with XP points, take your two highest stats. Change that number to negative. You now take that many extra negative points. i.e. (3+5 = 8... you will take -8 on top of whatever you rolled above.) Highest stats: Target Accuracy (11) + Instinct ( 8 ) = 19 [-19 points]
Quite a few choice swears came to mind as L'rua was dragged back into the boat, Invenirth's presence like a heavy weighted blanket to keep him calm from the possible drowning he'd just tried. Embarrassment would weigh heavily if his skin didn't sting, if he wasn't pulling yet another lodged hook out.
You're safe. We'll see your injuries taken care of when you hit shore. Invenirth's voice calmed him, soothed him. It almost extinguished his shame. Almost.
'I didn't catch anything but a lungful of water.' And he was still coughing up the taste.
There's a heavy pause. Well.... You technically caught yourself in the net?

81-90: The line snaps and slices your hand right open. Ouch! Not only did you lose the haul, but you now have to visit the healers and get the wound dressed. Ouch! This is deep. You have either lost a finger, or have cut into a nerve. This means you are out for the remainder of the game, and your grip will be permanently weakened. Take an extra -5 points for this roll -5 points
Ty'nan sat glumly in the Infirmary, gazing down at his bandaged -- and ruined -- left hand. The former Dolphineer was used to having dolphins help him catch fish; using a fishing line was something new to him. He had caught something big on the end of his line, and as he pulled back to fight his catch, the line had snapped and shorn off half of his index finger. The pain was bad enough, but he could live with it; it was the fact that he'd have to relearn some of the tasks he'd already learned as a Weyrling dragonrider, learn to compensate for not having a fully functional hand, that was getting to him.
Chinanazith tried in his own way to comfort his rider. It's not that bad, Mine. You'll be able to do just fine with your hand. I believe in you. The young dragon, still small enough to be allowed in the Infirmary, crooned and nuzzled Ty'nan's bandaged hand, sending love and soothing thoughts to him.
"Yeah, you're right," Ty'nan sighed, rubbing the blue's eye ridges with his other thumb. "We'll figure this out together."

21-30: Well that didn't go as planned. You thought you were pulling in a whopper, but instead all it turns out to be is an ancient, slimey, and very unsalvageable boot tangled up with some driftwood. There's nothing edible about this--not even any shelled seagrubs. To top it off, any fishing you do the rest of the day will either result in no bites or catches. -15 points
All the greenrider can do is laugh, staring at the boot stuck fast to the end of her fishing line. Oh, it had been quite a fight, and her muscles ached from hauling what had originally been perceived as quite a catch as... just a sodden, soaked-through boot. The algae clinging to it hadn't been much better.
The rest of the day proved to be even more fruitless, with her arms and shoulders aching by the end.
51-60: As you're preparing to run your net, you discover that the beach is swarming with spiderclaws. You decide the fish can wait, and instead, start gathering the shelled creatures. That's good eatin'! You are successful and able to bring back quite the haul!
It wasn't like going to the beach to assist by trying his hand at fishing would be that much of a hassle. He had known lean times, and he knew what it was like, so he would do his part. After all, this weyr had given so much to him, in the form of the other half of his soul. This was the least he could do. And Pallath was pleased with the opportunity to take a dip in the cold waters. It was a win win for them both.
The only thing was, M'ika had no idea what he was doing when it came to fishing. Fortunately he noticed the swarming spiderclaws. This didn't require any specialised gear or knowledge. All he had to do was gather a bunch of the things.
Mine, I think it might be easier if you had a net, or a bag, or something Pallath noted laughingly as she watched him scramble.
91-100: You decide to take a chance not on the water, but by hunting and scavenging on the beach itself. It seems to be successful! +5 points.
Wandering the beaches, you are able to bring back some shellfish, mussels, cockels, and clams. Some might be served raw, while others will be boiled and turned into various chowders and other dishes. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
Nashwa was, as ever, happy to do whatever she could to help, and had readily embraced the change in their schedules. Ilaorunth, for her part, was deeply offended that they were losing free time - and had to work more to boot! - and was reluctant to chip in in any way. Fortunately, the young gold did enjoy beach time, so Nashwa had eventually been able to convince her that she wouldn't really have to do much apart from walk along the beach. And walk along the beach they did, gathering up a variety of shellfish as they went. While it was still seafood, it was at least a little bit of a change from just fish, and would be quite delightful fried up or in a chowder.
All Ilaorunth had to do was move from spot to spot and sun herself while her rider did the gathering, then put their catch in the sacks in the larger sacks she'd tasked her with carrying. It was boring, in Ilaorunth's opinion, but...it could have been worse.
