Who Are We Anyway?!

Name: Iaerek
Age: 28
Sex:Male
Sexual Orientation: Gay
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft:zjourneyman Tanner (Boots)

Physical Description: Someone taught Iaerek to mind his posture early on and it stuck: his spine is always straight, his shoulders always square and his chin slightly lifted. And yet, for all that, he moves as though he couldn't possibly be more comfortable in his skin. He isn't stiff or rigid, just determinedly upright. That, combined with his height -- 6'4" -- and the sharpness of his features can make him a bit imposing. He is in good shape, not hugely muscled, but with the cut of a man who knows how to work. Reddish brown hair is cut closer to the scalp toward his neck than it is for the locks that sometimes shadow but never touch his brow. Narrow eyes the color of good, rich klah. Long, deft fingers and well-calloused palms. This is a man meant to be noticed.

Personality: If there's a single word that could sum up Iaerek, it has to be: solid. He is committed and dedicated to most everything he does. Given a chore or a task, he will see it through. Given a duty, even a new one, rest assured that he will do it to the best of his ability and even push himself to give a little more. Ask him to make a decision and he will do it without delay.

And then he'll stick to it, no matter how many people might argue against it. Iaerek has Opinions, and he is not at all shy about sharing them. He has enough restraint not to blurt them out randomly, but given the slightest opportunity, he will share. And stand by them, unless given a good enough reason (or consequence) to change his mind. Would he let a disagreement come to blows? Yes he would and without the slightest hint of guilt. If you want to step up, he will happily put you down.

And then offer you a hand up because, though you might be wrong, a dedication to a belief deserves respect. Respect must be earned, like his friendship. He doesn't seek out friends, but neither does he avoid company. He has no patience for pranksters, but rest assured that once you are a friend of his, he will be at your back or at your side, no matter what.

Even more surprisingly, perhaps, Iaerek does have a sense of humor and a broad smile, often seen. Though there's not question he's a temperamantal sort, he still likes to have a good time, a good laugh and a good game of dice.

Positive Trait List focused, dedicated, loyal
Negative Trait List stubborn, short-tempered, judgmental

History: Iaerek was born at Igen Hold, the first son of what would be a sprawling family as there were four more to come after him. His father, Jaervek, was a tanner and bathed the boy in the craft from an early age, but his mother, Imiria, had married into the craft. As the daughter of an important family from a nearby cot hold, she had her own set of expectations for her children, and she drilled them in as deeply as .

Parents of strong personality tend to create children that are the same, and Iaerek was certainly proof of that. Though he was not allowed to speak without consequence in the home, he was also taught to stand behind his and to speak as he believed rather than changing his mind just to keep the peace. There was trouble for him because of it, more than his fair share of fights and punishments growing up as he learned when and how to argue, but the point was that he learned.

He eagerly dove into an apprenticeship with the Tanners when he was old enough. The tools and sounds and smells -- oh, the smells -- were as natural to him as an evening meal. While his father specialized in building tack sought after for dragons and runners alike, when the time came for Iaerek to walk the tables and choose a specialty, he reached for the comfort and reliability, not to mention necessity, in a good pair of boots.

Even more fundamental with the return of Thread. Then appeal and design needed to be augmented with more actual functionality and durability. A challenge that Iaerek is -- was -- constantly working to balance and improve.

Sent out to deliver some of said boots as well as straps and harnesses, and other expected goods, he found himself at High Reaches Weyr with a Hatching drawing near, and was invited to Stand and test his fate on the Sands. Having never considered a life of his own as a dragonrider, the possibility struck a chord within him, nonetheless, and he agreed to take the chance.

A choice he will never regret.

Other: Anything else you want to add? Sibs. Four sibs, because I like family. HMU!

Who Are We Anyway?!

Name: Sjell
Pronunciation: see - elle
Age: 14
Turnday: 3562.09.06
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: No ty.
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat / infirmary aide (not officially apprenticed)

Physical Description:
Petite and slight, Sjell has a dainty build, which seems to be the first thing people notice about her (much to her annoyance). She stands at 4'10 (although her bouts of rage seem to make her tower). Her athletic prowess lies in her ability to sprint from one place to another, but she lacks stamina or muscle to endure. She is prone to High Reaches' rounds of sniffles and colds, and her physical well-being is easily influenced by shifting seasons and weather.

With a mess of pale blond hair, cut to shoulder length, coupled with a pale complexion, Sjell might seem frailer than she actually is. A long, side-swept fringe often covers half of her face, although she'll tie it all up, out of the way, with some white fabric strips (they're not ribbons, thank you very much). She has a round face with large, expressive spring green eyes. Thin lips are not often seen smiling. She has dyed a small part of her fringe black, as an expression of her discontentment towards her mother.

Sjell prefers practical clothing in neutral tones. Due to her more accident-prone ways, this young woman has taken to keeping a roll of bandages in her pockets, more than happy to patch up any cuts she or her friends might suffer.

Personality:
Sjell is a strong-willed and independent young lady, with a good, practical head on her shoulders. She knows what she wants out of life, even if her paths are limited. She is resourceful and smart, preferring to rely only on herself. Sjell is the type of person who has few friends- not from having a callous or cold heart, but simply from her belief that she can go it alone: she doesn't need anybody's help to get where she wants to be.

And what does she want? More than anything else, Sjell wants to be a dragonrider. Having admired her father for so long, she has her heart set on becoming one of Pern's strongest and fiercest defenders. There are no rosy-hued goggles here: she's witnessed enough of Thread's devastation within the infirmary to understand that life can be snatched away in an instant. But there is no nobler and worthier sacrifice than laying down one's life to protect one's home. She would forsake bonds of friendship and love to pursue this course with single-minded, dog-like determination.

Sjell, perhaps, needs to learn to have a little fun in her life. She is somewhat stilted in conversations, needing time to relax her guard around people. Afraid that folks will judge her for what she looks like- and not take her seriously- Sjell already expects the world to stop her from achieving her dreams. When someone proves themselves otherwise, they will find in Sjell a loyal friend, with a strong shoulder upon which to cry, and a willing ear to listen. She may not have the best advice- Sjell prefers to confront things directly when she is bothered- but friends can rest assured that she will always have their backs.

Perhaps to counteract her feminine appearance, or maybe to rebel against her mother, Sjell loves activities more traditionally associated with males. She's learnt to fight and wrestle, and also enjoys running as a way to cool her anger and push herself further. Her forays as an infirmary aide were intended to silence her mother's pressing demands about apprenticing to the weavercraft, and she enjoys the complexity of diagnosis as well as the urgency of high pressure situations. Although the healercraft accepts both men and women, Sjell decided against a formal apprenticeship: she knew that her dream of candidacy would interfere with her studies, and prefers to be useful in whatever way she can be at any given time.

In a way, Sjell has a very solid sense of self (even if she may not be the most confident or outgoing person), and will do almost anything to escape her mother's grasp. Her acts of rebellion are limited to doing things people claim are beyond her capabilities, or ill-suited to her disposition. She has a thirst to prove herself capable and worthy: being told no simply spurs her on further. She can be reasoned with, especially by friends and those she trusts, and is not without common sense. Reckless at times, she would never risk her life (just her limbs) unless it would save another.

Sjell doesn't like being told what she can and can't do, at least when it comes to who she is as a person. She respects authority and hierarchy just fine- they are essential to the effective running of the Weyr… But nothing infuriates her more than her mother telling her to pick a more feminine profession, or telling her how to do her hair, or what clothes to wear. Nothing rankles deeper than people stepping on her personal freedoms, and as a consequence, Sjell can be snappy and quick to argue and anger. She is her own person, shards- not some lifeless mannequin for others to press their expectations upon.

Positive Trait List Determined, Independent, Fearless
Negative Trait List Defensive, Rebellious, Snappy

History:
The result of a rather tempestuous goldflight-night, Sjell was raised by her mother with knowledge of her father's identity and very little else. Her mother, Srelle, worked odd jobs in the lower caverns, getting by with pretty words and prettier looks. Sjell very quickly became independent as she grew, enjoying her time spent exploring the winding passages and caverns of High Reaches Weyr. She was something of a wild child, attracting trouble with her endless curiosity. Scrapes and bruises were a common thing, beginning a lifelong attachment to the infirmary.

She was a clever child, but the socialness of Harper classes left her a little drained and quiet. She made a few friends during her childhood- people she still treasures to this day- and enjoyed going on adventures with them. She was eight when she discovered her first firelizard clutch with her friends, and bonded to a small, ravenous brown she later named Lock.

Her relationship with her mother grew more strained and difficult as she aged. Her mother wanted things to be a certain way, and… Well… Sjell did not. She hated how her mother dressed her in frills and showed her off, often running away to escape her clutches. The young girl cultivated a deep seated anger towards her mother over time, resenting the woman for her controlling tendencies. On the other hand, she had a great deal of respect and admiration for her father, which only grew when Thread returned. Here was a man who, in her eyes, could do no wrong: noble and unerring in his duty, he and his dragon-partner rose to the challenge and always returned home at the end of Fall.

At ten, she began to help in the infirmary, slowly learning basic first aid skills. Over the Turns, the healers gave her extra responsibilities, praising her for her dutifulness and motivation. When Sjell turned twelve, she was gifted a firelizard egg by her father. With love and care, the egg hatched a darling little green she named Leaf.

As soon as she was allowed, Sjell joined the ranks of candidates (much to her mother's horror, who had yearned for a pliable daughter she could parade around). She was steadfast despite her awareness of the horrors of Thread. Despite her lack of luck at Anakumath's hatching, Sjell was certain this was her path, her calling: after all, her father was a great and noble dragonrider. It was in her blood! This had to be her future… Little did she know what awaited her a few sevendays later, at Banshideth and Balizarth's clutch…

Other:
  • Sjell has two firelizards: brown Lock and green Leaf.
  • Her mother, Srelle, is a NPC.
  • Her father is a dragonrider (who may be a PC).
  • She might have half-siblings through either parent.

Who Are We Anyway?!

Name: Dr’non (Born Dreenon)
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat
Physical Description: Dr’non has a stocky muscular build. He stands at 6’ exactly with green eyes and black hair. The man doesn’t care much about his appearance and often looks slightly disheveled.

Personality: Dr’non is extremely loyal to those he cares about and to the Weyr. He is faithful to his commitments and promises. One of which is to be the best dragon rider for High Reaches that he can be. He is realistic about life and people, more concerned by facts than fancy. He doesn’t so much imagine what the world could be as make do with the world as it is. He will make the most of what he has but won’t dream of what can’t be.

Though realistic, he is also very stubborn. His opinions once decided are very hard to change. He can be obstinate and will follow a course of action even in the face of criticism. The best way to get him to change is to appeal to his realistic nature but that can be difficult. He believes that he is realistic enough to have already made the best decision.

He is very articulate and able to speak his thoughts clearly and fully. He doesn’t struggle with finding the way he wants to put things. This can cause problems because he is also sarcastic and prone to harsh derision. He loves to find the irony in a situation as well. But he doesn’t hold himself above that derision and is self-deprecating. He belittles himself often and easily.

Positive Trait List Articulate, Loyal, Realistic
Negative Trait List Sarcastic, Stubborn, Self-deprecating
History: Born Dreenon to two riders months after a flight, he wasn’t a planned baby in any way. Dreenon grew up in the creche without much parent interaction. He didn’t mind in the least as there were caretakers a plenty. Once old enough Dreenon took his chores seriously and played hard. He fully enjoyed his childhood even if he was often sporting some injury from his rough play.

Around seven, Dreenon got into a fight that broke his arm. It was over a simple thing that he was very sarcastic about and offended the girl. She took offense and when he refused to apologize she knocked him down, breaking his arm on accident, and pummeled him. Dreenon felt no shame from being beat up by a girl, she was fierce after all. Even though he was mocked for it he would hear no one disparage her. He learned that day that what he says has consequences and to pick his words carefully.

At 14, Dreenon began standing for Hatchings as was expected. He knew that he could walk away with no dragon in the end but it was his duty to at least be there for the dragons. Thread returned in that time and it became even more important to him to stand. He was ready to fight thread on behalf of all the people of Pern at the best Weyr in all of Pern. He never participated in the candidate swaps for that reason. Western was a decent Weyr but his loyalty was to High Reaches Weyr.

Clutches came and went and Dreenon continued to keep his hopes up. He knew how long he had left to impress and also that the clutch frequency was picking up. With Thread back the Weyr needed all the dragons that it could produce and support. If he was meant for one he would be ready.

Who Are We Anyway?!

Name: Tyfri
Age: 18
Sex: Nonbinary
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Freelance Fighter/Trader
Physical Description: A 6’5” willow branch of a human being, Tyfri strikes a particularly wild look with their long black hair and silver eyes constantly painted paired with expensive clothing. Some would believe them a courtesan or the child of a lord but they’d be shocked learning of their humble background. It turns out marks earned in various ways can buy happiness, if happiness is material.

Despite having a body they might have been willing to show off, they keep their torso and shoulders carefully covered to hide the numerous burn scars across their back. These scars are the only part of themselves that make them uneasy.
Personality: When there’s far too many things to do in the day, you end up trying to do them all, or rather Tyfri does, and it doesn’t always end as well as they want it to. Because they can get pulled in various directions by their lack of impulse control others have been heard quite often asking where they are or “What happened now?”. One moment they’ll be in the process of finishing something and the next they’ll be off doing an entirely new thing, seemingly having forgotten entirely about the first. Lists? What are those but annoying things meant to stifle them? They are however, nothing if not persistent in all that they do. Even if it appears that they’ve forgotten something for the interest in another they’ll whirl back to it and finish in no time. While this might leave others wondering why it seems that all is right within Tyfri’s world and they always act like it is. When they put their focus on something nothing will stop them from finishing whatever it is, no matter how long it takes and they’ll smooth everything over afterwards.

Their cocky swagger often distracts from many of their other kinder traits, even if they have a bad habit about bragging about those when the time permits. Really they’ll brag when it comes to just about anything, especially when it comes to covering up for their shortcomings because they for some reason have an issue with how others perceive them. This could stem from their empathetic tendencies, Tyfri really does care about others more than themselves despite their boasting. Able to pick up on what others are thinking or small changes in tone and body language they often mirror out of habit, attempting to put others at ease if they can. This is why it might be hard to catch their cockiness at first glance, as they don't always hold themselves as such. It might stem from watching others carefully during their training but despite their somewhat self centered attitude they quite easily notice others, especially if others are in pain.

Sometimes their desire to help others in pain puts them at a detriment to themselves, from socially to physically and they are beyond reckless in that regard. They don’t care if it’ll dent their social standing, they’ll help someone that they can reach, anyone within arm’s reach in fact. Or so they’ll say, but that reach has a tendency to lengthen depending on the situation and they have the scars on their back and shoulders to prove they’ll do anything they can. Their courage and boldness comes from a perceived loss, they never want to be so scared that they hesitate and lose someone again. Their own pain tempered this trait and it serves them well as a fighter, for they never back down or hold back, people can assume based on their physical appearance that they might be one thing or another but the second they open their mouth or move Tyfri shows themself off.
Positive Trait List: Bold, Empathetic, Persistent
Negative Trait List: Impulsive, Reckless, Cocky
History: Born the second child to a family of traders, Tyfri traveled all over Pern with their family, running around like an impulsive wild child and being anything but a role model to their two younger siblings. While it was their older brother Itzlel’s responsibility to watch the three youngest of them, Tyfri specifically made it a monstrous task to accomplish for him, sometimes out of joyful sprightliness.

Or so it was until their tenth turn when a knife ended their father’s life. To this day Tyfri will give thanks for their elder brother’s taking over for the mountainous presence that had been their father and everything that he’d done for their family, for they weren’t up to the task themselves. Grief hit them differently, it came in the form of a reckless streak that would never leave them, as they now understood what death was and had seen it with both their eyes. Not even a turn would see another tragedy befall them in the form of a fire that razed their entire camp. If not for the aid of passing dragonriders Tyfri, their mother, and their two younger siblings would have lost their lives along with the rest at the camp, if not for their quick thinking.

But the dragonriders took them further away than they had believed possible, all the way to Fort Hold where their burns and injuries sustained could be healed. Tyfri’s burns specifically came from trying to save some of the others in the caravan, hoping to find their older brother who’s location they’d been uncertain of. Not willing to lose yet another family member. Though the riders had promised to come back if they found anyone else in that area, anyone else who had survived, none of them came back. And so that was the answer they believed they had, the four of them had been the only ones to survive. The effect losing both of their father figures had upon them was almost to be expected from such a free spirit and in a misguided attempt to do some good for their family, they wanted to become stronger.

While the how was always something that Tyfri kept to themselves, the why led them to Redoubt Hold and into an apprenticeship in fighting. It meant crossing an ocean on the back of a dragonrider they were able to pay with marks they never explained fully, it meant leaving their family behind so that they could get stronger to protect them in the future, but they knew that they were safer in Fort Hold where they had decided to stay. Turns passed, training, yearly wars waged with others in the Hold for honor; it molded them into something they’d never been before. While some of their body and personality were tempered, a bit of their wild cockiness never was even as they walked the tables, but they had developed a new appreciation for the darker moments in life that lead to brighter ones.

Fresh and new outside of Redoubt still, Tyfri had just begun their travels back to their family when a client needing a bodyguard to help them and their cargo to High Reaches Weyr caught their attention. Anything for a mark, they gladly took up the freelance job and guided the merchant and their goods to the Weyr just in time for the pair to watch dragon eggs hatch. It was there, sitting in the stands and watching in amazement that they saw someone they had thought long dead impress to a shining new bronze colored dragon and their heart leapt into their throat. A desire to see I'zel and possibly shake him violently for allowing their family to believe him dead, kept Tyfri around the area in various holds with freelance work, looking for a chance to go and see their brother again. Word of another clutch has given them hope for their chance to slip in while on retainer for yet another merchant.
Other: Tyfri is a horrid tea snob.

Who Are We Anyway?!

Name: Tasza
Age: 20
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Non-Hall miner
Physical Description:
Well-built and sturdy, Tasza cuts a rather imposing figure from the start. She stands at roughly 6'0", and the physical labor of her former craft has ensured that she's by no means a slight girl--she can go toe to toe with any of her siblings, and makes a point to keep herself in good physical shape. Her hair is a smooth jet black and brushes her shoulders when she doesn't keep it swept back into a ponytail, and she's not one to allow much of it to escape, either--while she doesn't mind the occasional smudge or dusting of dirt from her work, being blatantly disheveled is out of the question, and she's careful to maintain herself to good standards. Her features are somewhat soft in contrast to the rest of her, with almond-shaped gray eyes and a somewhat upturned nose. Tasza is especially proud of her tattoos, with extensive blackwork sleeves on both her arms from her wrists up to the bicep--the designs pictured are smooth and sinuous, reminiscent of vines or flowing water. When stressed, she traces along them to calm her nerves.

Personality:
In all things, Tasza operates much like a guardian or a big sister--she's always keeping an eye out for others, and you can be sure that she'll do everything in her power to make sure that things stay above board. She can be relied upon to be a moral compass if needed, and is ready to work as hard as possible in the pursuit of something better. While it's easy for her to get a little too wrapped up in her hopes and dreams, Tasza is by no means afraid to put the effort in to actually get there, and she does her best to see setbacks as mere obstacles to overcome rather than failures.
She's quick to offer a sympathetic ear, and truly does care about practically everyone she comes across. She may not like them, necessarily, but Tasza is a firm believer in giving everyone their fair share, and knows how to be the better person in response to most petty rivalries. Still, she's stubborn and slow to change her mind, which means that she'll definitely be stewing about any slights for a while regardless, should they arise; Tasza doesn't enjoy leaving things on negative notes, and will spend plenty of time ruminating on how things could have gotten to a breaking point. She may not be as quick to extend the olive branch as she'd like, but Tasza knows that it's in everyone's best interests if she at least smooths things over when possible, even if she herself isn't necessarily over what happened.
She has some trouble accepting that she's allowed to have her negative emotions, and that it's perfectly fine to simply...not like someone. Even if it's frustrating to think about sometimes, Tasza tries to see things from other people's perspectives if at all possible, hoping to gain some sort of insight as to why it is they do what they do--it may not have much bearing on her own opinions of what happened, but it may explain things one way or another, and that's what she's after. Understanding the why of it is just as important as getting a handle on what happened in the first place, and she sees little reason not to do her due diligence.

She doesn't put much value on her own comfort, and doesn't shy away from making necessary sacrifices when the chips are down. Tasza is an intensely duty-driven person, and what she can do for others is her utmost concern--working for the betterment of something greater than herself is all she's ever wanted to do, and becoming a Candidate has reinforced that. She follows precise schedules and any orders to the letter, but isn't anywhere near insistent that others do the same; as long as they're doing their best, that's what matters to her. Besides, if they need help, she'll be around to ensure they get it. Tasza understands that her level of self-discipline isn't the best for everyone, and would much rather others work in ways that are comfortable for them, as opposed to enforcing some shade of conformity.
Tasza pays a lot of attention to individuals, and her highly social nature makes it easy for her to make connections with others--she makes a point to make as many friends as possible, hoping to be able to provide as much support as possible to everyone that needs it. At times, this comes at the expense of herself, and she knows she has to find a better balance between what she wants to do and what she can do. Tasza is the kind of person to have her nose to the grindstone at all times, and she finds it a little hard to actually let herself relax enough to stop being in work mode. Outside of the context of duty and discipline, however, Tasza is a bit more of a troublemaker than she'd ever like to admit--she has a sharp sense of humor, and while she might enjoy the thought of causing a little bit of a commotion, she absolutely refuses to indulge it in practice. Her goal is to keep the boat floating, and the best way to do that is not to rock it, thank you very much. She's a bit uptight, and seems to be allergic to letting herself have fun--underneath that, though, she has a good heart, and wants nothing more than to help where she can.

Positive Trait List: Empathetic, protective, honest, duty-bound.
Negative Trait List: Bullheaded, overbearing, self-sacrificing, workaholic.

History:
The oldest of six children born to a pair of Nabol miners, Tasza knew from early on that she'd have to work hard in order to thrive in her home. At first, she'd really only had herself to be worried about, but as her siblings began to add up, she began to step up more and more around the household, willingly volunteering as her mother's veritable second-in-command to help keep the wheels turning in their household. Although life wasn't exactly easy in Nabol, Tasza's family did their best with what they had, providing physical labor to the Lord Holder's mines with as much dignity as anyone--they were working for the sake of the hold itself rather than any specific person, as her father reminded her, and she took that knowledge to heart. Being a part of some bigger entity that couldn't be hurt was a comforting constant in the uncertainty and danger of Nabol's environment, and Tasza clung to it where she could.

The return of Threadfall wiped out the majority of their extended family, leaving Tasza's branch of it clinging even more tightly together in response. She became nervous about letting her siblings out of her sight, nerves worked up over the mere concept of Thread--although having High Reaches Weyr close by to protect them made her feel somewhat better, she found it hard to relax all the same. She joined her parents in the mines, eager to turn her focus toward something she could affect instead of worrying about what she couldn't fight. She was no dragonrider, even if she'd certainly entertained a fantasy or two here and there--the reality of it was that her role was elsewhere, and she'd do what she could to contribute.
When she was nineteen, however, her uncle returned to visit, coming astride the back of a dragon--he'd Impressed before Tasza had been born, and with Thread to contend with, he'd quite understandably had little time to see how his family was doing. After catching up with her parents, he remarked that he had something of an announcement: his Brown had noticed that Tasza had potential, and was of the opinion that she'd make a fine Candidate. Tasza herself was bewildered by the concept, but it wasn't long before she found herself going back to the Weyr with her uncle all the same. This was her chance to do more for people--she could fight for Pern, and she intended to do just that.

Following the events of Banshideth and Balizarth's clutch, it became clear that she'd underestimated herself--perhaps she might be something of a dragonrider after all.

Other:
She can bench press you, and she's unusually good at throwing her voice. She practiced the latter in order to add something special to reading her siblings bedtime stories.

Who Are We Anyway?!

Name: Yalizor (Y'zor)
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: ???
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Holder's Son
Physical Description: Yalizor stands about 5'8" with the fair, pale skin, and dark blue-black hair of a High Reaches native. His large, soulful eyes are his most striking feature, with his left a deep purple, and the right, a much brighter blue. He's trim, but with little muscle, and a softer, more boyish appearance compared to some at the Weyr. He certainly falls on the prettier side of the spectrum, especially compared to some of his more masculine and older weyrlings. His black hair falls past his shoulders when down, but is often tied back loosely in a cord.
Personality: Yalizor is proper young man, and was raised to have good manners and proper etiquette. None of that has changed over the Turns, and generally speaking, the young man is a good and proper gentleman. He is neither proud, nor is he arrogant, and he certainly never grew up thinking himself somehow better. In fact, he is well the opposite, quick to dismiss praise, or downplay his accomplishments. Some of his siblings were not so lucky to inherit such humility, but being the fourth born son, and the sixth child overall, meant that Yalizor grew comfortable in sharing the limelight, or stepping out of it if it might better another.

For indeed, he is a generous young man, who prefers to share than to take. He would much rather everyone have a little than one or two have a lot. He's never afraid to spend his marks on his friends, or strangers alike, and is always eager to share his time or knowledge when someone is in need. Whatever Yalizor can give, he will do so, and with great pleasure. He would certainly, and has, given the shirt off his back so another might be warm or secure--and what marks he had inherited, while his own, a great many were turned over to help rebuild Greyrock and the people suffering around Pern.

Ever conscientious, Yalizor nonetheless took his position in life seriously. He was well aware of the expectations his family, as well as Pern, might place on a man in his station--and he was more than content to do what he had to do, regardless of personal feelings. He might only be a fourth son, to a minor Hold, but he had a duty to marry well, and help keep the family line and fortune going. He never begrudged his position, and if anything, his place made him yearn to shine all the brighter. He had no true ambition and was never envious of his siblings or their duties--he was more than content to settle in his place, and help support the family and the Hold. It was this conscientiousness that had him leave Greyrock with nary a complaint, despite the changes that left him quite bereft. It is also this conscientious, and his generous nature, that have kept him from becoming bitter about it.

His loyalty is true, and given freely. One doesn't need to earn his loyalty, but they certainly have to strive hard to be free of it. Yalizor considers everyone he meets an ally, until proven otherwise, and to those he calls friends, he will be there no matter the hour. Unfortunately, his loyalty can be a bit much--even to those who love him most. For Yalizor was always a bit of a clingy friend. He didn't often like to do things alone, and never much cared to be away from family for any great length. He never did well when left to his own devices, and would often seek out someone to shadow--even if they weren't interested in him, just having someone to follow, or someone in the same room, was a great comfort to the young man. Unfortunately, he wouldn't always realize when his company was undesired, or worse, unwanted at all.

This has only been made all the worse by feelings of abandonment. He witnessed his father's death first hand, and each time a sibling was sent away, it made him cling all the tighter to the ones that remained. Threadfall's disastrous effects on taking almost his entire family in one day has given him a hangup--at this point, he half-expects his loved ones and friends to die or leave him alone. It's a quiet fear, one he tries not to mention, but it's enough to keep him up at night sometimes, or to check on those while he can. If he's physically able to do so, he will seek them out--and if he is far, he will write letters to ensure all is well. It's easier for him to prepare for the inevitable and painful separation than for him to enjoy what he has in the present--which can feed into his quiet anxieties.

And rest assured, Yalizor as plenty. He is a good, hard-working young man, but beyond his etiquette and pleasant smiles, is a man who holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. Some days are better than others, but over the Turns, his anxiety has gottne worse. He often worries about being enough, or doing enough, to keep his mostly-dead family proud. He will worry about the right turn of phrase long after he's spoken it, and concern himself with whether or not he did something well enough. He well would have worried about whether or not he was doing the right thing, by accepting Candidacy, but Banshideth's hatching happened before he had a chance to truly give it much thought.

But now, as a weyrling, he is realizing he is in a world he knows absolutely nothing about. Impression may have eased some of his flaws, but there will always be worries--thankfully, he will no longer need to share such burdens alone.

Positive Trait List Humble, Conscientious, Loyal
Negative Trait List Abandonment Complex, Anxious, Clingy
History: Yalizor was born raised in a small but budding minor Hold Greyrock on the coast of High Reaches territory. He was the last born-son out of four boys, and with two older sisters, and two more to follow his own birth, it was clear his parents had hope to keep the lineage strong. While his parents were a love match, they were also practical and understood the politics that permeated not just their own Hold, but all of High Reaches territory, and Pern itself.

Their daughters would be educated by Harpers, but ultimately matched with suitors to help grow the families influence. As for the sons, while they had their chosen heir, the rest of the boys would be educated and taught how to manage future cotholds or Holds their own, if they were particularly chosen, and cultured enough to tempt strong alliances. They would not be sent away to Crafthalls, but instead, take their place either supporting Greyrock. They were, a people apart, and while the workers and families that relied on Greyrock for their livelihoods and protection were important--there was no denying that the Holders of Pern shouldered a heavier responsibility in keeping the world turning.

That said, Yalizor's childhood was good, and he was a bit spoiled. He lacked for nothing, and though he was told how to act, how to talk, how to think, and was groomed in all things politics from a young age--it wasn't a bad life.

Of course, his happy childhood began to change from a young age. At Turn 7 his father unexpectedly passed away, collapsing in the fields. With his brother now running Greyrock, things began to change--and quickly. His brother was barely 18 Turns and now the minor Holder in charge. He had just recently wed, and though young, had a good head on his shoulders. There was tension between Yalizor's mother, and the new lady of the Hold, but they were still a family, and they were still together.

He became an uncle three times over by the time he was 11, and by Turn twelve, one of his brothers had been sent to manage one of Greyrock's Cothold's and his other had been sent abroad to study under a Holder at Tillek. His two eldest sisters had already been married off to a cotholder's son in Crom, and the other to a much older, but well established master fisher down in Tillek.

It had been discussed that Yalizor be sent to stay with an uncle who ran a successful cothold on the outskirts of Tillek when Thread returned--and that changed everything.

Nobody had been prepared for it, and that included Yalizor. Greyrock had been built primarily out of wood, for all that it was named after the large rocks that stood vertically in the ocean. Yalizor survived by sheer luck, having been assisting the lady of Greyrock down in the deepest store rooms that were reinforced with stone.

There were very few bodies to be found, as many had been eaten alive. The bodies they did find were in pieces, with men and women having thrown themselves into the water troughs and nearby ocean waters to try to save themselves. The Hold itself was all but full devoured, with only the rooms built or reinforced with stone untouched. Of his immediate family, his sister in Crom lived, as did his uncle in Tillek, and two nephews of Greyrock.

The minor Hold was in ruin. There was talk of it shutting down--but the lady of Greyrock, his sister-in-law, was a shrewd and ambitious woman. She had not one, but two living sons, and the firstborn had already been declared the future heir of Greyrock. She would not give up her title, and had no intention of her son losing his birthright--no matter how badly the Hold had suffered.

For the next Turn, Yalizor helped rebuild the Hold from the ground up. It was not easy, but all of Pern had been in ruins. Unfortunately, Greyrock was no longer his home, for as it was rebuilt, his sister-in-law made sure to put her own spin and say on the Hold. It became more and more apparent to Yalizor that she had little intention of keeping its heritage and instead, was simply there to make it her own.

It was no surprise then at Turn 15 he was sent away from Greyrock and sent to study underneath his uncle in Tillek. While his uncle was a kind enough man, Yalizor was homesick, and griefstricken. Like many on Pern, the trauma of losing ones family and home was a difficult thing to process. He was no longer welcome in Greyrock, for all that it was his family ground. He was given no welcome from his in-law, who re-married a wealthy and equally ambitious holder's son from a minor Hold in Nabol.

But politically speaking, he had no sway He had never been the true heir, and no matter how his family had strove to protect their legacy and the family--Thread's return took it all away in one fell swoop. He had little to his name, and added little worth in terms of matches. His uncle certainly tried to help, but it was clear that Yalizor's chances of finding a comfortable match were little indeed. For who would wish to settle with a young man who had no lands to his name and no way to accrue marks?

Perhaps a wife (or husband) were not drawn to him, but a blue dragon most certainly was! Most recently (in fact, only a day prior to the Hatching itself) did a blue dragon find him on Search. Yalizor hardly knew what to do--no one in his family had ever been sought by a dragon before--but with few prospects, and no welcome back at Greyrock, what did he have to lose? Thread had taken his family away, his security away, just as it had so many others... Maybe this would be what he needed to find a new situation? And if nothing else, it would give him time to figure out what he wanted to do with his life.

So Yalizor accepted.

Much to his surprise, Banshideth's eggs hatched the very next day--and Yalizor's new calling was found when he gazed into the prettiest, rainbow-whirling eyes he ever saw.

Other: He has no idea what he's doing. H-help.

We're adjusting this just a hair. We originally weren't going to have another gold in this clutch but.... We'll see what the dice have to say about it. :3 Given this is High Reaches Weyr, we're also going to cap how many women can Impress browns. As the Weyr is very Traditional, we had wrote in our canon that browns were rarer to Impress ladies than, say, over at Western Weyr where there's less restrictions. We haven't been quite as firm about this in our PC Hatchings, just due to the nature of how we run them...but this in our story, but would ideally like to make it a little more rare.

That said, we'll see how it goes. If we get more than half of what browns are rolled on ladies, then we may need to flip-flop any that come after to white, blue, or green instead. But we'll see what happens as we go along!

Hope you guys don't mind!

1-2: White
3-50: Green
51-75: Blue
76-91: Brown
92-99: Bronze
100: Gold

Please do NOT assume the rolls are final! We'll need to adjust if we get it really skewed one way or another i.e. 18 bronzes, and 2 greens or something. :3
