Haraven It was time! Oh, Faranth help them, it was time.
Hatching's were always a bit chaotic for the Candidates. There were boys and girls stumbling around, hastily washing up, changing into robes, trying to ask one another what to think, what to do, what to say, and generally rushing about. No matter how many times he stood for a Hatching, he always hoped that maybe this time, he would finally find His. How could he not? He wasn't going to think about what would happen if he, once again, stood alone by the time the last dragonet Impressed--that was world's away.
Today was a new day, and he wanted to meet each of Kleoth's young babies! He wanted to see them find Theirs, and he knew it was a great honor, no matter the outcome. But oh, if maybe, just maybe, His was there.... Surely, any one of those dragonets could be His, couldn't they? Even that little egg who had seemed a bit turned around! Nobody would know until it was over but with any luck, he'd follow A'mor, Ryara, and Ky'ra in Impressing. He wanted to introduce his family to his, and Teohe, too.
It was hard not to sneak a few glances at the tiers, hoping to smile at a familiar face. Usually he only looked for his R'mor or his siblings, but today he did try to spot a familiar blonde. Alas, the tiers were filling up rapidly, and his attention was quickly drawn back to the eggs and Kleoth. He bowed to the gold, thanked her for the opportunity of getting tow welcome her first clutch, and then turned towards the eggs.
This was it.
Happy thoughts. Positive thoughts. They were all welcome and wanted--and that was the truth! "Come on, little ones. We're waiting," he murmured quietly, sending nothing but adoration and fondness to the the clutch.
Quote: He's open for possible Sandfam if anyone would like a good natured buddy!
Valendyr It was difficult to stay groggy with the shot of adrenaline that hit Valendyr (and likely all the Candidates) that morning. A whirlwind of thoughts gripped him, a mixture of anticipation, delight, and (admittedly) worry about what to think in hopes of attracting a dragon. Nobody ever knew quite what to think around the little ones--and it certainly could be hard to stay positive, especially near the end of the Hatchings when time was running out. Ah, but that wasn't a very good thing to think, was it? Hurrying to clean himself, and throw on his white robe, Val shooed away his trio of flits and instead hurried down to the Hatching Sands with the rest of the Candidates.
It was easy to forget just how small one felt when stepping onto the Sands. With the Touching it was just a few riders, the eggs, and the Candidates but for the Hatching--there were eyes of riders, weyrfolk, and guests from all over Pern. He wondered if his sister would be in attendance, and he did try to sneak a look to see if he could spot Z'ri, but his entire focus changed as soon as he saw the first of the wiggling eggs. This was their day, after all and it was very easy to think only of them. Turning to their great golden mother, he bowed low to Kleoth. Thank you for letting me so near your beloved eggs. If he hoped one was for him, well, wasn't that every Candidates dream?
He quickly moved out, searching for the right place to stand. Thankfully, this time, he caught sight of one of the younger Candidates--Sioryl. The young lad had certainly been all but bubbling with excitement. Surely, he wouldn't mind a more stoic Candidate to stand with. "You holding up all right?" He quietly asked, hoping the poor thing wouldn't expire on the spot with excitement. "I wonder which one will hatch first?" He mused aloud, thinking wistfully at the eggs. A few of them were really moving!

Breathless with anticipation, somehow or other Aneirin had managed to throw himself into his white robe. He felt, and was, far more dishevelled than his usual sleek appearance... but what did it matter? There were eggs hatching, and he very much wanted to see. So, in a rush, he found himself lining up after the Candidatemaster, craning to see if he could spot Nemeryn.
Although the young man was taller than he (taller than a lot other Candidates, in fact), in the press of the crowd he couldn't quite manage to catch sight of him. Once on the Sands, however, he was able to spread out from the crush, and he waited in an empty patch of sand for his boyfri- for Nem - to join him. He made it in time to see the first egg begin to crack, and belatedly remembered to bow to the infant's golden mother.
Tsunake Pls come visit, Mr. Nemeryn.

Papys - He/Him
Papys was pretty certain he'd put his robe on backwards - or at least he would have been if he was paying attention to it. He'd lost interest once it was on at all and everything seemed to be in the right position. In fact, he'd almost headed out without his sandals in excitement, only to have to run back for them.
But he'd eventually made it out onto the sands, absolutely beaming as he always did and absolutely not thinking about the fact that the golden mother standing over the clutch had been hatched from..... .... .....
The continuation of the thought all but deleted itself before he could remind himself of it. Instead, he looked about the sands, trying to see who looked perhaps a little too lonely for their own good.
----- Matotoka - He/Him
Matotoka made quick work of getting up when he'd heard the humming - robe and sandals on, off and out of the way before he'd have to even consider potentially bumping into his brother. That final, parting shot from that one egg lingered underneath his skin, almost like a heebie jeebie over something that was, from where he stood, a non-issue.
If he'd wanted to distress his brother, he'd have made purposeful strides to. Instead, he was doing his best to give him space, picking a nice, inconspicuous spot to stand in and casting a glance up towards the stands to see if he could spot familiar faces or at least their golds.
He knew better than the get too excited about any of these eggs, of course, but he still couldn't help but look at each as they gave their eager wiggles. Soon...would one be his?
----- Josen - He/Him
"Hurry up," Josen needled, even though he was still getting his own robe settled - Serrekhar was not getting away without a passing jab as they made their way out to the sands. He'd not gotten any specific feelings during the Touching, not in the way some people spoke of candidates having magical moments with eggs that held dragons that were theirs.....but maybe he'd simply not met the right one.
He could hope, right?
He settled into a middling position on the sands, elbowing his friend with a grin as more and more of the eggs began to move. "Anybody you liked movin' yet?" he asked.
-----
Kadosse - She/Her
It was earlier than she ever liked to be up - but it was for a very, very important reason. Shards, Kadosse couldn't imagine anybody could simply sleep through the humming of impending baby dragons. She certainly couldn't, even if in her excitement she could fumble putting on even the most basic of robe. Maybe that was also why they kept it simple - for the sake of excited candidates.
She needed very little coaxing to get into position, twisting her hair nervously as she cast her eyes about for any familiar faces she could possibly linger nearby. Fortunately, it wasn't hard to spot Nuamia who had already been joined by Ciraine, moving over to join the pair with some eagerness.
"You ready?" she asked, the pair, practically ajitter.
----- Amahno - He/Him
Amahno couldn't have gotten ready faster if he'd tried. Well, okay, he couldn't have gotten ready and been dressed, and the dressed part was unfortunately important when you were standing out in front of what felt like all of Pern to be looked over and deemed worthy of yet another clutch of baby dragons.
One of these would be his, he could feel it - or he wanted to feel it. But being hopeful was half of the whole thing, right?
With so many eggs a wiggle, who would be walking away one of Pern's newest riders?

Anneke and green Uluth
It was far too early to bring a drink with her this time, but there was definitely no denying Uluth when it was Hatching-time. The eager green would be there to watch every egg hatch and to welcome all the new riding pairs to come today.
She leaned forward on her ledge above the sands, neck stretched out long as she tipped so far she looked like she might just topple over the edge at any second. They are moving, Mine! They are already rolling and -- oh! Look, a claw! Yes, little one, you can do it! Do you think a green will come first this time, MIne? I think it should be green., We are the fastest, after all!
Anneke sank down a bench near Sorentia. She gave the other woman a bright smile and a cheerful, "G'morning. Ready for this? Any favorites down there?"
Only then did she answer her waiting dragon with a fond, You know I don't like to make those kinds of guesses. But! Maybe this time you're right. We'll see.
Zh'gan and bronze Manahahtath
It was an unquestioned honor to watch a new clutch hatch on the Sands here. Manahahtath practically glowed with pride himself, as he settled above the Sands and added a low, rumbling hum to the others already making the air buzz in anticipation. Western Weyr would do Pern proud again, and those who thought poorly of them would surely be forced to step back in shame.
We look forward to welcoming your children, Kleoth. Your beautiful clutch is a wonder to behold, the bronze offered to queen on the Sands, ducking his head in semblance of a bow.
Zh'gan looked to the queen, too, giving her a no-doubt-unseen echo of the nod, himself, before settling down to a seat. He would watch and enjoy the entire day, but his gaze sought out two figures in particular down there, and his hope were very much focused for very particular outcomes.
Meepfur Fanboy in the stands. smile

Candidate Ciraine
She can't help but breathe a sigh of relief when Nuamia confirms that she can, in fact, stay put--it's subtle at least, but the grin that crosses her face when her fellow Candidate takes her hand along with Kadosse's is perfectly genuine in spite of it. Before she can greet Kadosse properly, though, Ciraine's thoughts are rather abruptly cut off as the Emperor Penguin Egg hatched in a spray of shell fragments and sand, hissing his displeasure to the crowd. There he was, then! The first dragon of this clutch, hatched and free on the Sands to make his choice. It's hard not to be a little starstruck, honestly; the first hatchling was always something special, and this one certainly was, too. "I think we've got more than a claw over here--" she starts, still half-turned toward the Purple and Orange Dapple Egg. The Brown was a little more of a pressing issue, given his mood, but Ciraine was having some trouble picking just which egg (or dragon) to focus on. "He's so big!"

Natiri - he/him
Oh... they were moving more vigorously now. The young man's eyes flicked from shell to shell, waiting to see which would be first to crack open. He kept a vague alertness as well to where Fyfy was, as well as those nearby—their mood and actions could influence the hatchlings as well, and that was important to note. The last thing anyone wanted was to have to duck an angry hatchling because someone standing nearby had thought something stupid.
Of course, there was nothing to be done when the hatchlings took to attacking each other. As soon as one egg opened, another went. Near-matching browns, he gathered through the shine of the egg goop... and not happy to see each other. Natiri watched in stolid silence as the smaller of the two leapt at the larger, displeased with something his sibling had done. He'd been told of course that a hatchling's size in no way dictated how large they might grow, but at a glance, he guessed that Emperor Penguin Brown would be the larger of them, with surely great stamina and strength. And the smaller one had fire and passion, and a will to fight. Both had good traits, and he focused on those approving thoughts instead of allowing himself to even consider their in-fighting. At least not beyond being aware of it enough to be ready to move, should the scrap head his way.
They would sort it out, undoubtedly. And anyone would be glad to have either of them as their partner. He knew he would be, and could guess Fyfy would be too.
