Bellatrix Black, fifth year, quickly found herself an empty room on the train. Already in her Slytherine robes, she had a small white kitten perched precariously on her shoulder. Placing the kitten on the seat, she sat down, her heavily-lidded, dark eyes gazing out of the train window. They hadn't begun moving yet. She sighed softly, tucking her long black hair behind her ear. She'd asked Sirius to meet her on the train, but she half-expected him to ditch her for those awful friends of his.
She crossed one leg over the other, pulling her Hogwarts letter from inside her robes. Bella detested waiting, patience was most certainly NOT among her virtues. Quietly, she read over her class list for the year, resisting the urge to tap her small black heels on the floor. The train had to begin moving soon!

Sibyll Trawlaney, Ravenclaw, sat on the train, pondering the fact that she would be graduating this year. Thank the gods, maybe I'll be taken seriously, seen as a True Seer, Cassandra's true heir. That was, after all, all she wanted. No one in Hogwarts could hear her predictions without laughing in her face. There was the possible exception of Professor Dumbledore, though she suspected he, too, laughed at her when her back was turned. With a sigh, she pulled out her trusty tarot cards and began giving herself a reading for her final year.

Rita Skeeter, 6th year, inwardly cursed at herself as she ran along the platform, curly blond hair flying behind her. Of all the days to be running late, she would chose today. Twice already she had to stop to collect her quills after they had fallen from her cart. She skidded to a stop in front of Platform 9 3/4, taking a moment to collect herself before rushing through the barrier.
On the other side, she saw that students were already boarding the train. Rolling the majority of her belongings to the nearest house elf to be loaded onto the train, she watched for anything moderately exciting and saw nothing. Sighing to herself as she swept her hair up into a more collected style, she wondered if there would be enough time to get a decent article finished before the start of the term.
Pulling out a quill and notepad, Rita entered the train, watching doors close as she passed. ‘Now they should know that doesn’t help,’ she thought to herself. She had just spied Bellatrix Black sitting in a compartment by herself, hand on the door, when a prefect spotted her and then proceeded to escort her to the nearest empty compartment. ‘Just my luck. Bellatrix alone and I run into a prefect.’ she thought as the door closed. She mused about Bellatrix’s solitariness while gazing out the window and tapping her quill on her chin. A slow smile spread across her face as she sat down and began to write.

Sirius Black leant against the barrier to Platform 9 3/4, waiting for Remus, James and Peter to arrive. He was supposed to meet Bellatrix, but he really couldn't handle seeing any member of the Black family at the moment.
He certainly wasn't used to being the first of his mates to arrive; on the contrary, he was usually the one who made them late, but this year was a little different. He could've come with James, but Sirius had stayed at the Leaky Culdron for the past week, adjusting to his new situation. He had had plenty of time to think over what he might say to Remus and Peter, but he still wasn't particularly excited about bringing it up. He flicked his hair out of his face with his usual casual elegance and nodded at the groups of giggling girls who walked by waving at him.
He sighed, checking his watch again, noting that it was almost time for the train to arrive. He decided to find a car for themselves. He stretched languidly, pushed his trolley to the last car of the train and lugged his trunk inside. He took a seat inside, leaving the door open and smiled for the first time that day. He was definitely looking forward to the start of his fifth year at Hogwarts.

Lucius Malfoy thoughtfully pursed his lips as he sauntered slowly through the train, Crabbe and Goyle dutifully following behind. They had been talking about Quidditch before, but Lucius had told them to shut up about it.
Lucius was absently keeping track of how long it would take for them to come up with another subject. So far, at least, no renewed attempts at conversation gave any indication that they had managed to find anything else to talk about.
"Ah, here we are.." Lucius paused in front of a compartment. A compartment, it should be noted, that already sported several second-year students. "Crabbe, Goyle, explain to these.. children," as a seventh-year, Lucius certainly didn't think of himself as a child anymore, and it was therefor only natural that he used it to indicate a lot of people who weren't him, "that this is our compartment."
He stepped aside, and, pausing to smooth out an invisible wrinkle in his perfect robes, waited patiently as Crabbe and Goyle did what they did best.
What was that, you might ask?
Why, whatever he told them to do, of course..
"Ah, thank you, gentlemen," Lucius smiled approvingly as they did just that, and an empty compartment awaited their entry. The students, Hufflepuffs from the looks of it, didn't seem too happy about it, but a Hufflepuff did not engage in a fight it knew wasn't worth it, and so the three of them scurried off in search of another place to sit.
Lucius liked that about Hufflepuffs.
He went in first, of course, and sat down on one side. He crossed his legs and leaned back against the backrest, spreading his arms to take up as much space as possible.
Crabbe and Goyle, after closing the door of the compartment, of course, sat down opposite of him.
He smiled.
Well, then. This last year was looking to be a breeze..

Peter Pettigrew hastily weaved his way through the crowd at King's Cross, aiming for Platform 9 3/4. He hoped that no one was watching, because he didn't have the time to surreptitiously make his way through the barrier. He shoved his trolley through the brick wall and, after a quick glance around, ran through himself. Once on the Platform, he looked around for any glimpse of his friends. Hearing the whistle blow in warning, however, he made a mad dash for the last compartment on the train, knowing that that would probably be the place the others would be.
Once inside, he was glad, albeit pleasantly suprised, to see Sirius sitting at the far side of the compartment alone. He nodded in greeting and set about getting his luggage situated in the compartment. When he had finally seated himself, he looked over to Sirius and gave a small chuckle. "Looking forward to fifth year, eh, Sirius?"
