they were smart enought to get that far into evolution what if some of them ascended ever think about that ascension isn't exclusively for human type creatures and remember the asgard yoused to resemble the fifth race.

It puzzles me why their research (really Loki's research) into humans wasn't enough to help them. He must've found SOMETHING of positive use.

You'd assume so, wouldn't you? Truthfully, I'm just thinking that the producers needed something to give the finale more bang, so they decided to kill off the asgard, without thinking it through properly.

Killing off the asgard and making them give their tech to the humans also has the added bonus of making the human race the most powerful in our galaxy (pretty much), so it sort of insulates any future storylines. If any problems come up, they can just pull a asgard machine out of nowhere.

Not necessarily. The Odyssey is the only ship with Asgard tech on it, and the Ori could track it easily.

So they might have destroyed it? I suppose so.

Yeah. Which would have been sad, you know, ultimate destruction of the asgards. Go Sam.

Ah, yes, SG1 and the general, too. That would have sucked a lot. No movies, for one.

Would anyone else be dead?

Actually, yeah. We'd all pretty much die, wouldn't we? And then all we'd have would be atlantis.

Well, at least they'd be a not entirely bad suppository of human knowledge and culture.
