Steam comes out of the SGCs. SGAs just looks like a giant circular light brite.

The steam is from the support clamps. Atlantis doesn't need those.

It's a toy. I had one as a little kid. It came with pieces of black paper with patterns printed on them and you'd stick little colored plastic pegs into the paper. When you put it up against the machine, the pattern lit up with the colors of the pegs.
