Marcelius noted her slight shiver. The man's dark eyes missed nothing. But aside from a lifted brow, he said nothing about it. It could have been anything from cold to fear, for all he knew, and it didn't really matter very much anyway. Whatever it was, she would just have to get over it.
He checked the leash's clasp, more out of habit than anything else, and assured himself it was solid. Despite her insistence that she could walk, Marc set an easy hand on her shoulder to guide her - and keep her up if she stumbled. The last thing he needed was to trip on her, after all.
"You may ask," he replied, his voice as calm and emotionless as his face. "We will not be going far. I have a transport unit waiting below." Keeping his hand set lightly on her shoulder, he walked alongside her, guiding her to a metallic door almost invisible against the equally metallic walls. "Down this way."
He removed his hand from her shoulder to touch his fingertips to the door, and it slid noiselessly into the wall, revealing what looked like an escalator, if all the steps had been flattened down with a hammer.
"Step on," he said tonelessly.

Marcelius was beginning to wonder if this particular slave came from some sort of tropical climate - she seemed to be shivering all the time. And yet it wasn't particularly cold. Could be fear, he supposed. Or weariness, or any of a hundred things. And he didn't particularly care. As long as she wasn't sick, it wasn't his business.
The man was clever, but there were still some areas where Marc could be painfully oblivious - the reaction of most humans to the beauty of the Keshval being one of them.
He stepped onto the device behind her. Casually taking one of her hands, he set it on a railing in the wall. "To keep your balance," he said absently, his attention on the darkness that the pathway leveled into. He didn't reach out to the railing himself, however - presumably he was used to the motion and no longer felt like he was going to fall.
After a few seconds, it started up - smooth and silent as only the best-tended machinery could be - and they began the quiet glide downwards. Marc's gaze was ahead; he didn't even glance at Maxy. They would be there shortly, and then she'd be off her feet. At least until they healed. He was irritated enough that the slave was already bruised up that he was even willing to allow her the healing time.
He could always change his mind, though.
((OOC: Where is Nicholas? *grar*))

((OOC: If I don't see him in the next few days, I probably will.))
Marc glanced pointedly down at her feet as the silent moving pathway took them into the darkness. He remained silent for some time, however - long enough that by the time he actually spoke up, it would be too dark for Maxy to see him.
Considering the fact that he pretty much had to be right beside, in front of or behind her, that was a fairly clear indicator of just how dark it was.
"If I were to tell you there's still a fair ways to go, still think you can walk?" he inquired. There was the barest whiff of amusement in his otherwise cool and relaxed voice. It would be hard to hear, but if she caught it, Maxy would know that in his quiet way, Marc was probably laughing at her stubbornness a little.
Not that there actually was a long way to go. This transport unit would deliver them straight to the door, essentially. Marc just wanted to see what her reaction would be.

Marc's face held no expression as he replied calmly, "And although it's nice to see that you are a quick learner, I'll point out that honesty will be your best policy when it means that otherwise you'll be suffering needless pain."
He didn't seem aware of the subtext, but she might read more into that statement. Lie to me when I want the truth, and you will suffer. Of course, there was no way to tell if that was what he meant. Marcelius was rather inscrutable that way.
Stepping off the transportation unit beside her, he casually shifted a hand in the dark, reaching out to a knob that he knew was there - otherwise he would never have been able to find it. Every colour of the rainbow, and some no one would ever see in any rainbow, was painted around the knob, each one having its own thin vertical line. Marc spun the knob with easy certainty until the little, carved metal arrow pointed at the sliver of dark golden yellow.
Around this time, he noticed that Maxy was looking at him. Turning his head slightly, he glanced right back at her with the kind of mildly interested expression that would have won him a fortune had he been a gambling man. Without breaking that mild eye contact, he reached over with his free hand and opened the door, stepping out onto what appeared to be a street or walkway made of some shiny, black, reflective stone.
"Come on, then. The portals don't last forever," he said absently.
