That must have meant that it had more to do with the method itself. If it was anything like tempering steel, or molding bark, it probably had its own special ways that it needed to be coaxed into doing what Maysy wanted with it.

Singing nonsensical songs to the spider silk was not the way to coax it into becoming effective armor. The spider enjoyed it nonetheless.

The spider seemed to have tired some, or maybe it was feeling a little sorry for Puella. It took a little longer for it to sort through her armor this time, but it still managed to get it off the dummy. Puella shook her head at it. "You're just too good at this, aren't you?" she asked it, craning her head to see its eyes better.

Hoping to coax it by tickling it, Maysy just got hopelessly tangled in the web instead. The spider chose to forego destroying the dummy this time in favor of helping her out.

Maybe it'd turn out better for Puella if she tried protecting the dummy from above. The spider was tall, after all! But her friend just flicked the little hat off of Puella's dummy, and she giggled. "It was worth a shot!" she told it.

"Thanks, treacle!" Maysy praised her spiderfriend, giving it a happy pat on the head before wasting so much of its precious silk again.

Fortunately for their budding friendship, the spider didn't seem to mind producing so much expendable silk. Not yet, anyway. It ripped this work to shreds just as it had the others, and looked up at her for further instructions.

Sure, maybe this wasn't the most efficient use of Puella's time. But it sure beat getting bored and giving up. And anyway, Puella was pretty sure she learned something new every time her armor was destroyed. Unconscious. Or something. She sure hoped so, anyway.

"Show me the seeecreeets," Maysy whispered, pressing her palms on either side of her spider's face as she bonked her forehead against its forehead. Or what was closest to its forehead. The spider put one pointy foot through the dummy instead, and looked to her for approval.

Puella tried again obligingly. This time it turned out even worse for her than it had before: the spider tore through her creation in a matter of seconds. "Wahh," she said again, pouting. "How do you get so good at that, is what I'm wondering!" Why wasn't there a class on breaching defenses rather than creating them? Now that'd be cool!

It was Maysy's fault for not being more specific about secrets, so she gave the spider another lovely little pat and began to crisscross the web around the next dummy at apparent random.

Random did not work either.

The spider ghoul applied herself again obligingly, though. This time, the spider seemed to have a lot more trouble with it, peering nervously over her dummy before it applied itself at last. It took it a couple minutes this time, but it still eventually managed to get through to the dummy underneath.

"Buying blueprints!" Maysy laughed aloud to no one in particular, once her last attempt failed like all the others.

What'd gone so well about that attempt? Puella mumbled to herself as she tried again, brushing her fingers carefully over the spider's back as she did so. Hey, it deserved consolation, too! Even if it had eventually succeeded. It was trying hard!

The laughter from her 'joke' descended into mad cackling, and Maysy couldn't seem to stop. The work on her armor was shaky, despite her best intentions.
