Gabrielle_AnimalLuver I tthhiinnkk that one of my platies is knocked up. xd She looks incredibly fat. So ima get a breeding net tomorrow. How do I know when to put her in? Do I take her out right after she pops? Very good chance that she is lol Put her in when you can see the fry's eyes in her gravid spot, and when she is very boxy looking (gravid spot will be pointed, and chest will be squared off), and take her out as soon as she is done. She can and will eat the fry. To keep popluations down a bit, I would throw a few of the fry in to the tank. Bettas love a good chace, and its a good (and free) food source.

Ya, well I don't think I can keep ALL the fry anyway. I only want like, 2 more platties for now. Do I even need a net for that? Or will they all get eaten without it?

If you've got alot of plant cover (which you do), then you probly dont need a net, no. If they dont want to be eaten, they'll hide.

Keep a few more fry than what you want. They could all make it to adulthood, but usually some die off anyway. Congrats!!!!!
WCs: Probably because I always suggest people do 80% razz That's what I do but 50% minimum. WHen refilling, I've been filling my bucket halfway. You need to make more trips, but it's easier to pour the water slower than a full bucket. I miss my old system of having a bureau that was above my tank level, that was awesome. Hassle free refills.

I got myself the handy-dandy, magic, water changing system. Hooks up to the faucet and makes like sooooo much easier (unless you cant get it off the faucet, and you're in a dorm, not supposed to taking things apart rofl ). I think I might have already said something about this, though LOL

Wouldn't the tank need to be within reach if ur faucet? It occured to me today I can move Rascal's handmade post over, which is a few inches higher than my desk and more than wide enough for the bucket so I can do reverse syphon that way next time. Propping it up on text books wasn't high enough so it went really slow and stopped when the bucket was half full.

I actually cut my tube so that it was just under 10 ft, considering I'm in a dorm, and dealing with 25 ft of tubing would be too hard, when I'm only 5 feet away from the sink XD

And how much did that cost? The Aqueon brand one I have (from PetSmart) was on sale for about $30. The WalMart brand one is similarly priced. My guess would be the difference in quality, Aqueon being the better one. Aqueon has soft plastic fittings, which I find is rather cheap. Not sure how the WalMart ones are. I would try to find one with metal fittings, as they higher quality, and will last longer.

My syphon at the moment, is just the tubing, there's no actual cylinder, it was broken and I'm too cheap to replace it. The most expensive thing in my tank is the driftwood and natural plants. Which look fantastic and help with the microenvironment, but the filter came with the tank, the heater is from when I had Sushi. And I have zero money. I am biking to school cause I can't afford the gas.

It'll be worth it though!!! Chin up! I can't go to school because the local college's biology program is at a campus that's an hour drive away and I can't drive =(
@Gabs: You don't really need the tube, it just makes things easier.

Lol I know! Its just annoying. I've been off work for 2 weeks while I moved and got settled in and everything, so while I'm used to not having more the $80 or so in my bank, I'm not used to having no money and needing so much, and my mom has even less money then I have so, she cant really help either. We have a good Biology program here, but its waaay to far for you to come here rofl

I have no idea when it happened. Since Aida chewed the wire, the tank light has stayed off to prevent a fire. Last night I was looking for Shy. I picked up the Hikari wafer, they even smell better, I also got a veggie clip (what veggies do I feed him again?) well in my search for Shy, I saw something moving, and I just screamed. BAAABBYYY FFIIISSSHHHYYYY!!!! LOL, maybe I over reacted. But they are ssoo cute. I dunno how many, they are microscopic, and they are half see through, and blend in perfectly with the sand. I saw maybe 4 at one point, so I think there maybe 5-10. That would be my guess at this point, but I was under the impression they had a lot more than that at a time. And my fish doesn't look any smaller in the belly. But my other girl has gotten big now. At first, when I was debating platies and barbs, I was very nervous about the baby thing. First I thought my tank would be overcome with them, like snails lol, then I was freaked out about them getting eaten. But, Zuko, is lloovviinngg this. How can I not find it cute. He is having the time of his life chasing them. And I actually really hope he does eat one, cause I haven't seen him eat since I've had him!!! I picked up frozen bloodworms yesterday. I got a package of cubes, I dunno if the brand is any good. The girl wasn't terribly helpful, I was standing in front of the freezer asking about betta food and she handed me a bottle of flakes rolleyes I found that a lot of it sank, maybe I didn't let them defrost long enough, but either way, as with the flakes, the platies swoop in, eat everything, before Zuko even knows what happened. So question about the babies, I know yall told me what to feed em, but, that was when I thought they'd have a separate tank or net. There are 5-10 microscopic babies in a 15G tank zooming around avoiding being eaten. They're not really noticing the crushed up bloodworm I attempted to throw at them.
