Fish? Fiiiish? It was almost hard for Tierboskath to act as a floating platform because he was just so excited to be fishing, and wanted to be diving after fish himself! But he could be too active, lest he scare fish away from the nets Rio had attached to him. His patience did pay off (though not with his much-dreamed-of deepfish), as when they brought in the nets, they had quite a big flatfish to show for it! Tierb was practically salivating for a taste, but...alas, to the kitchens it would go.

Quote:

31-40: Surely you have a knack for this, for the water is teaming with sea life. Roll a D4 to find out how plentiful your catch is!

3. You fish with a net, and while there were a few tangles early on, you find your stride. Within your haul you find a rare but very meaty and very pregnant flatfish. This thing is ugly but its meat is known to be smoked--and its eggs are a true treat even Lord Holders pay a pretty penny for. Casgar and the kitchenfolk will be more than pleased! +15 points

Highest stats are Agility (5) and Luck (4), for +9.

And....that was a boot. Nothing edible about that. Iolseger was trying his best, but what could he say? He was a Baker, not a fisherman.

Quote:

21-30: Well that didn't go as planned. You thought you were pulling in a whopper, but instead all it turns out to be is an ancient, slimey, and very unsalvageable boot tangled up with some driftwood. There's nothing edible about this--not even any shelled seagrubs. To top it off, any fishing you do the rest of the day will either result in no bites or catches. -15 points

Today, Nashwa was assigned to foraging, which suited Ilaorunth well enough. All the young gold had to do was lounge on the beach and wait for Hers! By the end of it, they had a nice assortment of greens to take back to the kitchens.

Quote:

91-100: You decide to take a chance not on the water, but by hunting and scavenging on the beach itself. It seems to be successful! +5 points.

2. You bring back a whole bunch of greens and some edible seaweed scavanged from the shore and nearby lagoons. The greens will add both nutrients and flavor, and can always be dried.

Dezerac was fairly new to fishing with a net, but he got the hang of it quickly enough, and before long he was pulling in a modest haul of fish - that a large wave was intent on taking away from him! With Vedmath's help, though, he was able to hold on to their catch.

Quote:

41-50: As you begin to reel in the net or line, you are overpowered by a strong wave, and your catch is set free. Shardit! That had been a good haul, too! Nonriders or riders without XP points, take -5 points. If you are a rider, your dragon is able to support you, and you manage to bring in a full net of packtails. Riders with XP points add 5 points to their total.

Set'al was feeling pretty good about fishing, even if his attempts thus far hadn't exactly been stellar. When something bit this time, he tried to be careful and reel it in properly, but he broke the line again! Worse still, it actually snapped back and cut his hand. That was...well, a little gross, frankly, but no worse than he done working on Pipith's straps in the past. Determined not to let it get the best of him, he just wrapped it up and went back to fishing.

He still didn't catch anything, though...except a lecture from the Healers when he finally did go to get his hand looked at.

Quote:

81-90: The line snaps and slices your hand right open. Ouch! Not only did you lose the haul, but you now have to visit the healers and get the wound dressed. Roll a D4 to see how severe your damage is! -5 points

3. The wound wasn't terrible, but it becomes infected! This will prevent you from fishing for a sevenday [skip the next week's rolls].

For having never fished before it was added to his duties, Tairos was really proving to have a knack for it! And was developing quite the affinity for yellowfins and redstripes, apparently.

Quote:

71-80: You're doing all right! The haul you bring in is modest, but every little bit helps. Roll a D4 to see what you managed to gather from the sea! +5 points If you are a rider with XP, luck was with you this day, so double your haul! +5 More for Riders with XP

2. A good mix of some yellowfin and redstripes! Yum, yum, yum!

The blue rider decided to try his luck scouring the beaches with Antereth. He much preferred scavenging this way to paddling in the water or throwing nets. Thankfully, he did wind up returning with quite the haul!

You decide to take a chance not on the water, but by hunting and scavenging on the beach itself. It seems to be successful! +5 points.

3. Wandering the beaches, you are able to bring back some shellfish, mussels, cockels, and clams. Some might be served raw, while others will be boiled and turned into various chowders and other dishes. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

El'rix of blue Valdivianth
The blue rider had never enjoyed fishing--at least not with the passion of his parents or those at Black Sands might--but he was at least more prepared than some at the Weyr. Though he might have been a Harper by Craft, he still had some experience when it came to fishing, and it showed. The large haul of Silverfish he brought back would be good eating.

J'lar: +5 and a brown flit!

J'lar of blue Loreleth
The blue rider had taken his chances scouring the beach, in part to keep Loreleth from having a panic. Too many riders had been struggling with the nets and J'lar didn't want to add to his blue propensity to panic. Thankfully, the beaches held a veritable bounty of spiderclaws, clams, and shelled delicacies. he was just on his way back when he heard the most pathetic peeping.

Hmmm.

Upon further investigation, the blue rider found, rather tangled up in some beached seaweed, a little, newly hatched firelizard. The little brown immediately attacked his boot, gnawing on the sand covered leather. "Easy now... This'll be much tastier, don't ya think?" He asked, pulling out a half-eaten fishroll from his satchel, and offering it to the the little brown. The creature immediately attacked, happily eating what remained of his lunch.

Well. This was unexpected... but not an unpleasant turn of events. Once the brown had his fill, he scooped up the little creature, and tucked him gently in the crook of his arm.
