Fandom: Pokemon

“Ash Ketchum loves his Pikachu in EVERY single way, even in a sexual way. In fact, Ash wanted to lose his virginity to his own Pikachu. One day, Ash was harder than a Catholic priest at a playground and wanted to bust a MAD NUT in his Pikachu’s POONTANGY TANGY TANG. So Ash approached his Pikachu and kissed her sweet lips. Pikachu was very surprised by this, to say the least.”

Some research shows that dark-skinned people living in temperate climates have lower vitamin D levels.[81][82][82] It has been suggested that dark-skinned people are less efficient at making vitamin D because melanin in the skin hinders vitamin D synthesis

Over the month I spent reading John Dies at the End, it sometimes felt like I was reading multiple different books. At times, the book was fast-paced, action-packed and darkly hilarious; other times, the story slowed to a crawl and I found myself dreading coming back to the book to get through the drawn-out parts. The shorter "episodes" of the plot seemed to change so often and so quickly that, when I did come back, it was difficult to find exactly what I had and hadn't read before. It almost felt as though I were reading a series of short stories centering around these characters rather than a cohesive novel.

That being said, those feelings rarely detracted from the quality of what I was reading. I was almost constantly amused and entertained, occasionally horrified (to the point of talking back out loud to the book; usually some form of "No, no, no, nonononono.") and always eager to see what nonsense was coming next.

What I appreciated most was the author's willingness to make the early-twenty-something characters as realistic as possible, right down to their dialogue. Many books I've read "clean up" the language of their characters - not John Dies at the End. John and Dave sound just like most young adults I've met: undignified, vulgar, inarticulate fountains of profanities. I'd like to think that a majority of people would let loose at least a few curses if they were faced with the same horrors in this book.

As a whole, I loved this book. I might have loved it more as a few smaller, easier to digest pieces - but the length is a small sacrifice for a book this funny.
