Her curly dark brown hair reaches just below shoulder length when down, though she wears it up in a bun to keep out of the way when working. Her hazel eyes stand out quite well against her naturally tanned skin. Overall her feature are angular though there is a certain softness to her. Surel's smile is quite contagious, both broad and bright. Though she's lived in the Weyr all her life, Surel isn't particularly muscular and doesn't give off the vibes of doing physical work her whole life. She is strong, but certainly falters on some of the heavier lifting. Surel wears comfortable clothes while working but does enjoy dressing up just a bit when not doing her duties or in classes. Nothing too overstated, but ruffles and lace and silks and soft, fine fabrics are her guilty pleasure.
Personality: Surel prides herself on her loyalty. In her mind the Weyr comes first, then her friends and family, then herself. She will always be there to pick up the slack when someone is sick, doing their chores or running homework to their dorm. If someone needs help she's there in a heartbeat. Surel would never say a bad word against those she holds dear even if she thinks something isn't right, especially where those of higher rank are concerned. She will do anything someone tells her to do if she believes they are higher up or more important than her, which to her is just about everyone. Surel may know that someone is taking advantage of her, but she'll push through to do whatever the task is regardless of what she thinks.
Surel has a natural charisma about her that helps the quiet girl make her way through life. While she is usually soft spoken and reserved in new situations, her smile and open expressions usually lead her to finding friends fairly quickly. She is very easy to get along with, never rocking the boat, and once she's warmed up to someone new she can let herself shine. Surel's timidness can quickly overshadow that side of her and she'll close up like a flower at night should she find herself suddenly thrust into a situation or conversation that makes her uncomfortable. Usually among friends this doesn't happen, but in class or during other Candidate chores she often withdraws when her more boisterous classmates take the floor. Lack of participation has earned her a few remedial lessons when her teachers weren't convinced she understood a subject completely.
Surel's generosity knows no bounds. She is quick to offer help should someone need it and enjoys giving surprise gifts to those who need a little pick me up. She shares everything she has with her friends and family, taking great joy in seeing their faces light up. Surel never expects anything in return though if someone does return the favor she is always grateful if a bit bashful. She is renown among her family and oldest friends for always coming up with the best surprises even when she was little, and her colorful imagination has grown up with her from her childhood to her Candidacy. Surel enjoys finding new ways to get an old job done, though it should be said that not every time it's a faster or better way. It's certainly different, though! Surel's imagination does run a bit wild at times and she enjoys recounting her dreams in a journal when she has the time to do so, occasionally trying to take some of those dreams and apply them to real life.
At her core, however, Surel is very insecure. She knows where she comes from and she knows where she's going, but will she get there? Everyone in her family has succeeded thus far, but what if she doesn't? What if she fails? Though Surel is generally a happy young woman, these insecurities plague her so badly that there are nights she can't sleep, staring up at the ceiling as her own shortcomings gnaw at her. She is a constant worrier to the point where she gives herself stomach and headaches, and she is a frequent visitor of the healer's ward. Now that Thread has returned her worrying has only gotten worse, both for the world as a whole and for her family that rise to fight the old enemy each time it threatens them. The constant worrying keeps her health on the less than desirable side and she has a hard time putting on and keeping on muscle mass.
History: Surel was born and raised at Western Weyr and has grown up a weyrbrat through and through. Her parents are both dragon riders, her father sitting astride a gruff blue while her mother rides a charming brown. She has one older brother who is also a dragon rider, a beast of a bronze with hearts of pure gold. Surel grew up with nothing but love and support from her family and their dear dragons, though expectations were high from the get go.
For a while Surel dreamed of becoming a dancer while she was young, having a natural grace that lent itself to the art. Her parents quickly buried that dream, though, and urged her to follow in their footsteps as well as her brother's who had just joined the ranks of the Candidates. Surel was crushed but, ever loyal to her parents, nodded and let that dream die. She still to this day admires anyone who dances well, even if they're not a dancer by trade, and is still quite graceful if out of practice.
Thread returned a year before Surel was set to join the Candidates and for one terrifying day Surel was alone, her parents and brother called to fight. Her mother and brother came back with only minor injuries, but her father and his dragon had taken a bad hit. They were both touch and go for a few sevendays, but they emerged alive from their ordeal. Her father's magnificent blue had been blinded and her father had lost his entire right arm, though, so they were relieved of service.
Terrified for her mother and brother who still fought each time Thread fell, Surel became a Candidate with fear and loyalty tearing at each other within her. She didn't want her family to suffer more than it had, and perhaps she could do something if she found a partner to take to the skies with. But seeing her father and his blue in so much agony for so long was scary. To this day each time Thread returns her stomach aches and her chest is tight with fear for her mother and brother, and each time they returned relatively unscathed she can breathe again. Now that she's been training for a few years she is eager to find her dragon partner to take her father's place, hopeful to fight alongside her family and friends that have gained their dragons since she began her own journey. Jamaiceth thought she came over here for a reason, but now she can’t quite remember why. Though a gentle and friendly dragon, this green has an awful memory. Did she already say hello to her wingmates today? Was Hers going to give her a bath later, or did it already happen? Oh well. Dragons who have only made her acquaintance once or twice might very well slip her mind, and if distracted in the middle of a task, she may never get back on track again. A daily routine will be vital to help keep her focused, and it will be much easier for her to remember people and tasks that she encounters every day. Forgetful though she might be, Jamaiceth is a hard dragon to rattle. A herd of rampaging runners could sprint right under her nose, and she would merely watch them with interest. She’ll never be one to panic and lose her head if things start to get heated.
Family is important to Jamaiceth, and she will certainly never forget about her siblings! She is affectionate and would love to spend her time in their company, but is just as happy to bond with those outside of her circle of her family circle. Each and every person she meets will be special to her in some way, but it would never occur to her that others may not have her best interests in mind. She can be easily fooled for she is inclined to accept what she’s told as truth... no matter who it comes from. Jamaiceth is a natural optimist, always confident that a bad situation will turn out all right. She won’t be bothered if someone doesn’t agree with her nor will her positive outlook be shaken. In events like Threadfall where the risk of death and injury are very real, Jamaiceth will solemnly accept that not everyone might come out of the fight while firmly believing that any sacrifices made were for the greater good.

She knows how important drills are, but she’d much rather be lounging with someone and basking in the sun. Surely there will be plenty of time to practice later, right? While she never means to deliberately slack off, her natural desire to relax paired with her forgetfulness can lead to this green not working nearly as hard as she should. Her sweet nature makes up for this though, for as long as her rider can keep her focused, Jamaiceth will certainly try to give it her all.

Origin of Name: Jamaiceth’s name is inspired by the taxonomic species name of the red-tailed hawk, B. jamaicensis. Inspiration: The red-tailed hawk!
The red-tailed hawk is an extremely common hawk found throughout North America. Their name stems from the reddish-brown feathers of their tails. These birds occupy a variety of habitats and altitudes, including deserts, grasslands, forests, agricultural fields, and urban areas. Their diet is equally varied, though it usually consists of rodents. Though this is a large species of hawk, they are regularly preyed upon by the great horned owl--particularly where their chicks are concerned. Red-tailed hawks are also known to steal food from other birds of prey.

Adult Size: 45’ Physical Attributes: Perfectly average and perfectly lovely. Jamaiceth does tend to be a little rounder than her sisters, and will put on ample weight if allowed to indulge herself.
Additional Notes: Jamaiceth will rise with surprising frequency and her flights will be the one time that she deliberately pushes herself to be as quick as she can! She will likely be smitten with all of her suitors, and would gladly cuddle up with them on the regular, if she was so allowed. While she isn’t so inclined to chase (mostly due to the physical exertion), she will be an open admirer of a pretty green or gold. Color means little to her, and she will happily snuggle up to anyone who will indulge her.
Impression Effect: Surel's anxieties and worries will all but disappear now that Jamaiceth has found Her. Impression will take the worst of those fears and allow them to roll off her like water off a wherry's back! Perhaps it's her green's forgetfulness, or simply having someone who truly believes everything will be okay--regardless the reason, Surel will find that sleep comes easier, and even the worst of her cares will be far easier to manage. Additionally, or perhaps because of her lack of worries, she'll have a new brilliance about her.
Jamaiceth and Surel are a very solid and reliable match. To start, both rider and dragon are quite close to their respective families. Jamaiceth always needed someone who had strong familial ties, and Surel will now have inherited all of Kleoth's brood, and beyond, as new siblings--at least as far as this green's concerned. Surel's sweet and generous nature will pair will with this forgetful green. While others might lose patience or grow frustrated with Jamaiceth, Surel has just the right temperament needed to help keep this green on task without making her feel like a burden or failure. Surel has proven time and again that she's not afraid of hard work and doing what needs to be done, with a generous and loyal spirit--and those traits will work wonderfully with her green, who will need a bit of extra tender loving care. On the other hand, Jamaiceth has a breezy and rosy personality. She will always be there to lift up Surel and ensure her worries, fears, and anxieties are soothed. Never will Surel be alone in this world--Jamaiceth might forget a lot of things, but she will never forget Hers. Together, these two sweethearts will make Pern a better, softer, and more hopeful, place.
