WHAT THE ******** Sal-ee-air-ee. Salieri! Del Forrest! It's not that tough, Wayne!" she yelled, stomping in front of him while steam poured out of her ears. "Salieri Del Forrest, heiress to the Saffron City Dojo!"

She pointed to the pokeball on his belt containing his Hitmonlee. "And I think that Hitmonlee came from my dojo too. Am I right?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:22 pm

Wayne flinched back an inch with each syllable that Salieri yelled at him. He held up his hands defensively, peering out from them when she eased up a bit. From Saffron City? Wayne remembered his foster mother saying she was from there. In Kanto? What was Salieri doing in Unova?

"Hitmonlee?" Wayne took the pokéball out of his pocket and looked at it, "I don't really know," he said, "my girlfriend gave him to me when I-"

He trailed off and looked away. That was something he couldn't say out loud just yet. He looked back to Salieri with intent eyes and a smirk on his lips.

"Why do you say that anyway, Sal-ee-air-ee?"

"Hmph." Salieri crossed her arms and turned away, tapping her foot.

"You wanna know why your Hitmonlee won't listen to you? It's cause he already knows my family's kung fu. All of those moves he was doing? Those are mine. Hitmonlee's got some skill so he thinks he doesn't need you. And just when you should be making a scene and proving yourself to him, you blew it. A martial artist's spirit is iron, and you gotta reforge to how you see fit. If you aren't iron too, then you aren't going to move him at all."

Her foot stopped tapping. Salieri cocked her head back to Wayne. "So? Can you let him out so I can see if he really came from my family's dojo?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:43 pm

Wayne frowned while Salieri more or less insulted him.

"If I'm going to show you, it won't be now. If you didn't notice, your moves got him beat up back there," Wayne put the pokéball back in his pocket, closed his eyes and held his hands up, "I guess they're not all they're cracked up to be after all."

He opened one eye to look down at Salieri, cracking a small grin, "Maybe when I'm through training him he'll forget all about those moves."

Salieri grit her teeth. Wayne was frustrating her to no end. She knew she was coming off as abrasive, but he clearly didn’t know how this made her feel. Seeing Hitmonlee lose with her moves made her feel dishonored, like her family had done a poor job teaching him. Or maybe Wayne just didn’t do it well enough.

“I-“ she started, but then she paused. With a low growl, she pinched the bridge of her nose and looked away, closing her eyes in meditation. Calling out Wayne wasn’t going to help her here. This wasn’t the way to becoming a gym leader. What kind of trainer would look up to a leader who only yelled and raged? Now the shame was on her.

“Look, my family kind of…lost that gym,” she told him, turning her head away completely. As much as a part of her wanted to beat him into submission kung fu style for insulting her moves, she knew that wasn’t the way to go about it. “I’m trying to get it back by becoming a powerful gym leader. So I don’t want to see my family’s style get dishonored like that.”

She wasn’t trying to be aggressive now. Now she was speaking more softly, in a nostalgic longing. Salieri turned around to face Wayne, one hand gripping the other arm. “Have you ever lost something and never stopped regretting it? Well it sucks, so I want to make everything right. I want to see you reforge Hitmonlee’s iron spirit into a shape you can use. It might be small, but that’s just one more step to getting back what I want.”

Kijin continues to wonder around the Dreamyard examining the area a bit more looking to see if there was a something to the shadow he saw earlier. As he walks around the building remains he finds a large hole in the wall that didn't have fencing covering it, he would slowly move through the large hole and moves into the ruins. "Hmm this place is rather interesting.....but a little eerie."

He continues into the building looking around a bit more seeing how a majority of the rooms were blown apart though there are a few signs that something had been in here recently. Things were moved and tossed around he would check that up to maybe some pokemon coming and going from this area.

"I wonder what this place was used for? It seems kind of like a lab but there is way too much damage for me to be sure." He says to himself as he continues to look around. He soon comes up to a what seems like a doorway but there was a large block or something keeping him from entering. He would push against the blockage but it wouldn't budge and the hallway was too small to bring out Steelix so he would turn around and head back towards the entrance.

As he moves to the hole in the wall something rustles the bushes near the wall he looks at the bush wondering what it could be, he backs up a little and grips one of his pokeballs waiting to see what it might be.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The pokemon that would emerge was a small cat like creature he wasn't sure what it was so he would quickly pull out his pokedex and holds it up to get a view of the pokemon. The device would flicker to life and a entry would come up with a image of the creature. "Purrloin the devious pokemon. It's cute act is a ruse. When victims let down their guard, they find their items taken. It attacks with sharp claws." He gives a smile as he looks the creature over. "Hmm alright this will be my first pokemon from the Unova Region."

He grips the pokeball and with a slight click on the button the ball would enlarge,"Lets go Absol." He shouts out as the pokeball gets launched into the air releasing his Absol, it would give a slight shake of his head as if getting his fur unruffled then it would let out a battle cry getting in position.

"Go use razor wind." He shouts out the pokemon would let out a cry, soon some wind was whipped up and whirling around Absol making small twisters that circled him. The Purrloin would give a smirk and runs over towards Absol with its claws out and ready to use and it does so giving a slash of its claws against Absol.

Absol would take the blow like it meant nothing as he continued to let the twisters build and build gathering up strength. Kijin would give a smirk and looks towards Absol,"Ok Absol use it." He shouts out the small twisters would suddenly seem to be unstable wobbling around in a uneven fashion then Absol would let out a cry and the blades of wind would lash out smacking into the Purrloin as well as some parts of the building.

The Purrloin would get knocked back a bit and land on the ground with a thud, he would nod to Absol in acceptance then gets ready for his next move."Ok Absol go use False Swipe." Absol would nod and start to quickly run towards Purrloin getting as close as it could to the pokemon and gives a quick slash of its horn knocking the pokemon back agian. But the Purrloin wouldn't take that attack sitting down, it would soon rise up from the ground seeming to barely able to stand as it dashes towards Absol and gives it another scratch before landing on the ground. The hit would connect but still not enough to give Absol a reason to worry.

Kijin take the way the Purrloin was laying on the ground he would take one of the empty pokeballs from his pocket. Just like before he would press the button in the center of the pokeball making it enlarge. He would throw his pokeball hitting the Purrloin with it, the ball would open and entrap the pokemon in a red light pulling it into the pokeball. The ball would land on the ground wiggling and wiggling the light on the ball blinking in time with the shakes until the ball stopped and the light in the center of the ball would blink white signaling the capture.

"Ha I caught it hmm I wonder what I should call it?"He would tap his chin a little as he started back towards the city looking at the pokeball with his newly catch Purrloin.

Lost something and never stopped regretting it? His parents. His pokémon? Wayne had his share of regrets. But in spite of that he learned something:

He sighed, looking up to the ceiling then back down to Salieri, his mouth drawn to the side, "My parents died when I was seven. Car accident. The people who took me in were so good to me that I don't even remember my real parents that well, but I remember that day. The day they died." He rubbed the back of his head, glancing sideways, "It was my fault we were out on that street. No matter how you look at it, if I'd done things differently then they'd still be alive. That's what I've been telling myself for the past ten years."

Wayne paused, scrubbing his scalp with his fingertips, hair flailing about. This was awkward. Still, Salieri was telling him something about her out of the blue, he might as well do the same. Right?

"What am I trying to say...? Err. Yeah," he dropped his arm back to his side, thumb resting on the edge of his pocket, "That's something I can never change, but I keep on living. Like, now I get to be with Hitmonlee and everyone. Regrets aren't all bad. You can learn from them, y'know? Err. So don't get stressed just cause Hitmonlee lost. I've only trained with him for a couple of hours. Give me a while and he'll be fine."

His parents died? Well that was a huge downer. Now this was kind of awkward. Wayne probably didn't mean to gather sympathy, but Salieri couldn't help but feel bad that she yelled at him before.

"Er, what, now we're just sharing sob stories here?" Salieri said in a rush while darting her eyes away, her face turning a bright red. She still couldn't bring herself to an apology. Why can't you just say sorry? "Yeah, so, maybe you do know something about losing what you had. That's, er, a real bummer, dude." Apparently in a more extreme manner than her. Now she just felt like a spoiled child, whining about a toy that she lost.

She knew it wasn't really like that, she was just comparing it to Wayne. But it was still a loss. And a loss still hurt. "So you've only been training a few hours, huh? Alright then, one loss isn't so bad." Her eyes shifted over to the Hitmonlee's pokeball, which she growled at.

"But you! Stop making my school look so undisciplined!" she yelled at Himonlee, who was still in his pokeball. She didn't know if the kicking fiend would even hear her, but it still felt better to yell it out. "If you're not gonna listen to Wayne then don't bother making my kung fu look so...so...messy!!"

And then Salieri looked back up to Wayne again, blushing. She was already making a fool of herself. First to N and now to Wayne. Sometimes she talked too much for her own good. "Hey, you should, you know, not give up on those moves he already knows. Cause, well...they're not really bad...okay? They're all I've got."

"I just want to get strong so I can win the pokémon league," Wayne said. It was only partly true, but true enough. "If you think those moves will make Hitmonlee stronger then I wouldn't get rid of them. I was just joking..."

He edged a few inches towards the door, saying, "Well, I think Hitmonlee's got some serious injuries so if you don't mind... I'm gonna have to get him to the pokémon center before he like, dies or something, I dunno."

He tipped his head forward and waved, "Catch ya later, Salieri," before turning to exit the Striaton Gym.

Salieri returned the nod. "Yeah, see ya," she muttered as she stood next to the gym. How embarrassing. To see a former student from her father's dojo losing like that was bad enough. The fact that she berated the trainer afterwards made her feel disgusting, though. That's not what it meant to be a gym leader. Cilan offered to train her even when she turned him down because he knew better, but he never yelled at her once. Maybe I'm not cut out for this...

The Battle Girl turned back to the arena door. Chili was still inside. She had already lost with N today, and that thing with Wayne wasn't too good either. She had to end this streak, especially on her first day being a trainer. The night was still young. The first step to getting her honor back wasn't training Hitmonlee. It was getting the badge.

Salieri: One. The World: One. Time for a tie breaker.

"Chili! Stay right where you are!" she yelled as she walked back to the door. "You're gonna be my waiter tonight!"

The door slammed shut behind her, but Salieri didn't flinch from the loud locking sound. Instead, she pumped her fist into her palm as she strode up to the arena. The Battle Girl grinned at Chili. "I'd like to order one Trio Badge, please, with a battle on the side...and a coke."

The last part was genuine. She hadn't had anything to eat or drink since the afternoon. "But seriously, I do want a coke though, if that's alright."

"We'll do some more training tomorrow," Henrietta told Darumi. When the door to the gym opened she turned her head to see Wayne exiting. She quickly looked away and painfully stood up.

"H-hum, you're heavy," she mumbled and she recalled Darumi. She exchanged Darumi's ball for Melty's and she looked in at the little Pokemon. A look around showed her the trainers she'd seen before. Minor battles inside of Striaton. A trainer nightlife that she'd never seen before.

Then she looked at the Pokemon center. Safe, warm, cozy. Food. Her stomached growled.

I'll never win if I can't push myself harder than my Pokemon.

With one last sideways glance at the Pokecenter, Henrietta started off in search of battle.

Chili paused, almost out of the back door to the arena. He turned around, looked at Salieri and his eyes lit up as he smirked, "Sorry. We've only got Pepsi."

The console at the side of the gym area calculated which pokémon Chili should use against Salieri. Given it was her first day of being a trainer, it didn't take many calculations. As Chili stepped into his trainer box, the pokéball containing a fresh Pansear shot up and he caught it.

"By now I need no introduction! But here I am! Chili! The blazing hot fire master of Striaton City Gym!" he held his pokéball above his head. When he brought it arms-length in front of him, the arena began to rotate yet again.

This time the dirt pitch was replaced with a slightly greener one. It was covered in grass and the ground was slightly damp. Because there were a few skinny trees, this arena floor was several feet lower than the others. When it got into position, it began to rise up until it was on the right level. Eventually it rocked into place, sending tremors through the metal border floor where the trainers stood.

"Choose your pokémon carefully, rookie! Have you trained yourself to survive my flames?! Let's find out!" Chili yelled, tossing his pokéball out into the arena. Pansear materialised, tipping his head up and blowing flames into the air.

Chili grinned and Pansear cracked his joints, loosening up for the fight.

"Well at least I got away with not paying," Wayne said as he looked up to the sky. It was a deep blue; not completely black and the stars were faint, drowned out by the city lights.

The trainer hurried to the pokémon center to get Hitmonlee healed. He decided that if he saw Henrietta at some point, he should apologise for yelling at her to keep fighting. Especially when he'd told her that Striaton wouldn't be a problem. Why did he say that? Trying to be impressive? He just ended up looking stupid.

"Pokémon are..." he trailed off then smiled to himself, shaking his head. Yeah, there was more to pokémon than he knew just yet. Soon finding himself at the front desk of the pokémon center, he handed over his pokéballs to the nurse and went over to a drinks machine for some refreshing lemonade.

The Trainer School was exactly what he expected; children, everywhere. Noisy, hyper-active, annoying children. Truly, he had stepped into hell. Avan hated children. What was the point of them? All he knew was that he didn't want to stay their long. But that was when he first visited upon his arrival in Striaton a little over a year ago. It was now night time, and he was sure the school would be empty. With Kali at his side he knocked on the door, just to try; well, why not, right? You don't know if you don't try. There could definitely be someone inside who could help, even if it was a bit late. Another knock and no answer. Knock, knock, and Avan was ready to give up hope when he heard the door knob twist. He caught himself at a weird angle and stood at the door to look casual, like he was waiting there expecting the door to open. Who answered the door was not the kind, older man who gave him the information on the Munna last time he was here, but rather a woman, mid-thirties by the look of it. She smiled and greeted him, Avan gave his own smile. She asked him what business he had with the school and the boy said that he was just looking for information.

The woman invited him in and the two sat at a desk. Avan got his answer to why Kali's attack hadn't worked before. The woman told him it was all because of the typing. Ghost did not work on normal. The information seemed basic to Avan and that's what annoyed him the most. He wasn't the best at Pokemon typing match-ups, but he did know the easy one ones; electric beats water, water beats fire, etc. Common sense type match ups. It was then she gave him a small pamphlet with basic little bits of info on it. The boy felt like a complete idiot and was embarrassed, but thanked her none-the-less. Before he left, Avan asked how the Pokedex he received worked. Apparently the the white circle was a cleverly disguised button, at least to Avan. And it turned it on. From there it seemed easier. Point at Pokemon and get info. Use the side buttons to access different info and pokemon you've seen, caught, in the party, etc.

At least he finally knew how to work it, right?

Pleased with himself, he thanked the woman once again and left.

*

Kali seemed restless. She buzzed and hummed and floated, doing the occasional twirl. It was cute. It was night time after all. Maybe ghosts became more active at night; that was Avan's explination for it anyways. "Kali..." He chuckled and picked the Yamask up, holding her by the bottom (mask area) up to his face so they met eyes. "Why are you so happy?" Again he spoke to the pokemon expecting no response. Unfortunately he could not do that with Baku. That Pokemon always had something to say; it was inescapable. And it was bad enough Baku could talk to him through psychic abilities, but the Pokemon did it randomly and it was always in fragments that could barely be called sentences. Thinking of Baku, where was he. "Baku has been gone awhile hasn't he Kali? should we go look for him or just wait? He's probably looking for us right now, and knowing him, he'll probably be mad we moved." Avan thought about it and shrugged. "Striaton is bustling right now. A nice atmosphere. Let's look around." The Yamask gurgled a cheery noise and hopped from his hands and floated down. When Kali did, a familiar face was off a bit a ways. The girl he helped with the Lillipup. Mystery Girl.

Avan strolled over. "Hey there." He gave a small wave as he approached.

This wasn't her element. Hell, no where was her element, really. Henrietta was a shy person. It wasn't that she didn't like people, she was simply awkward around them. Thus, she wasn't a loner and she wasn't a social person. Caught in the middle and uncomfortable in both areas.

The night life of Striaton City contained what you would expect. A downtown area full of clubs and places for music, a pizza parlor that doubled as a small nightly concert area for B-rate bands. Not crowds, but people moved through the streets in a busy like manner.

The night was young, and thus there were no concerns for things like curfew or getting home. Henrietta released Melty for the sake of company and she held him in her arms, careful of the flame on his head.

When Henrietta heard the voice she jumped and span around to face the source.

Avan.

"H-hey," she said and one hand moved from her cradled arms to wave at Avan.

He startled her and that made Avan giggle on the inside; making sure to not show it of course. "How are you tonight?" Avan asked. She seemed a bit more laid back than last time, but that was still to be seen. Then Avan took notice of the Litwick in her arm. His eyes lit up and widened. "That's a...cute pokemon you got there." And he did mean that. Avan was a sucker for cute.
