Physical Description: Like many people in her family Dextelia is a slender young woman and tall for her age. She has dark brown hair that almost seems as if they are black with striking blue eyes. She is always seen with a smile upon her youthful features.
Personality: Dextelia is a bundle of energy and she doesn't exactly do a good job of keeping it contained. She is almost always bouncing and moving. Most everything is met with a healthy amount of excitement and an eagerness to please as well. She hasn't really met anyone she doesn't seem to like, or at least try to get along with. Chances are that if you are someone prone to being gloomy, like her cousin Dr'cul, she will do her best to cheer you up, whether you want it or not. Dextelia is always ready to make new friends and she doesn't seem to really understand why people can be so gloomy when there are so many cool things to look forward to!

There isn't much that Dextelia deals with that causes her to pause. If she hasn't done it before she is excited to try her hand at it. Some grumpy candidate is paired with her for chores? No reason to be afraid they just need a friend! Everything seems to be a challenge to her in some way.

Even though she seems unshakable Dextelia has never been away from home. She was always following her mother and grandfather around, as well as her elder cousins. She doesn't like to be alone and prefers to be around a lot of people. When she makes a friend she also doesn't like to lose them and can seen a bit annoying with how much time she wants to spend around them.

As a young girl who hasn't had much time to try many things Dextelia doesn't do well when there is failure. She tends to hold herself very accountable from other people and will cause herself to feel guilty for things that she didn't even have control over. She can easily be guilted into taking other peoples chores, especially if she wants to please them. She also doesn't have much confidence in herself, she hasn't had the chance to prove herself and holds herself to a very high regard in her mind, mostly because of her family then anything else. When things don't go the way she expects her confidence takes a hit.

History: Dextelia was born into a very big family at Fort Hold. The patriarch is her grandfather Dramir. Many of the members of her family went into the Healer profession. Until she was eight turns old Dextelia spent a lot of her time playing with her cousins and just being children. When she turned eight she entered an apprenticeship at the healer hall.

Dextelia admires her grandfather and elder cousin Dr'cul, formerly Dorianus, so the young girl had the drive to become a surgical healer just as they were. At 12 turns Dextelia began to learn surgical skills underneath her grandfather's tutelage and was on the same path as her elder cousin until things changed.

On her 14th name day Dr'cul and his blue dragon Harneth came to visit the family. It was during that time that Harneth informed his rider and Dextelia that he sensed the young girl had potential just as her cousin had. Dextelia was excited to hear this even though Dr'cul was hesitant about taking her, hiding his worry for her as it just being a hassle. WIth her begging and their grandfather's urging that it would be a growing experience for the young girl, Dr'cul relented.

Once at High Reaches Weyr Dextelia found herself out of her depth but ready to jump in and learn everything that she could. She has had a view of dragon riders as heroes for the longest time and it has only doubled after her cousin became a dragonrider as well.

With her first hatching nearing, Dextelia finds herself excited, as always and anxious for what the future holds.

Origin of Name: In West Side Story, the female lead, and singer of the song Miryaath is based off, is Maria. "Maria" is the Latin form of Greek Μαρία, from Hebrew מִרְיָם (Miryam), and the related to the biblical Mary.

Inspiration: I Feel Pretty (West Side Story)

West Side Story is a musical with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It was inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.

The story is set in the mid 1950s in the Upper West Side of New York City, then a multiracial, blue-collar neighborhood. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The members of the Sharks, from Puerto Rico, are taunted by the Jets, a white gang. The young protagonist, Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang's leader, Riff, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in musical theatre.

In the musical where "I Feel Pretty" is first sung, Maria is not yet aware that her love, Tony, has just killed her brother Bernardo, while in the film version, the song occurs before Bernardo's death. In the bridal shop where she works, Maria sings about being happy and feeling beautiful because she is "loved by a pretty wonderful boy", while her coworkers tease her about her silly behavior. Robert Cummings of AllMusic comments that the song "features one of Bernstein's more memorable melodies: its first four notes, deliciously rhythmic in their rising contour, repeat, then are reduced to three, then to two. …Bernstein's instrumentation colors the music with a Latin character…and so does the girls' chorus that enters midway through. Stephen Sondheim's lyrics deftly capture Maria's bliss and newfound sense of confidence"

Personality: Miryaath is a joy to be around—a social butterfly, perpetually upbeat and in love with life itself. She sees the world through undoubtedly rose-colored glasses, and is brimming with hope and surety that everything will go how it should, in the end. She is a dreamer, full of wonder and awe.

Of course, with her eyes full of stars, it can be hard for Miryaath to see, or grasp, the truth of some things. She is perpetually innocent, blind to the harsher side of life until forced to see it, and she can come across as careless and even shallow to those with a more focused, keen awareness of reality. It isn't that she can't see such things, but simply that she doesn't want to. Her dreams and hopes are just so much... well, nicer! Reality simply doesn't match up with her view of things sometimes, and it can be quite devastating when her bubble is burst and she's made to come back down to the ground and face facts.

She wears her hearts on her claws, and can be quite intense in her grief when such moments come... but likewise can be simply radiant in her joy and in her love. She gives her all to those who win her affection, and she has no trouble at all with shouting her feelings from the fireheights for all to hear, even if it means they might laugh at her for it.

Negative Traits: Blithe, dramatic, naïve.

Green Vine Egg: Medium—when you touch it, there is a pause, like a barely-held breath... that bursts into bubbly joy.

Physical Attributes: Miryaath is a well-formed green—her figure is fuller than some greens, but still sleek; not a bit of her out of proportion. Her head's features are refined and almost elegant, from the tip of her nose to the ends of her headknobs. She is not the fastest green in the air, but her movements are decidedly graceful, almost like a dance, and full of energy.

Additional Notes: She doesn't rise as often as some greens, but when she does she tends to develop intense feelings in the moment—regardless of the character of the dragon that catches her eye. She has a bit of a taste for troublesome mates, or those generally considered a bad match for her.

Impression Effect: Dextelia may not see the change right away, but there's a new glow about her. As she ages and matures, she will certainly gain a bonus to her appearance that catches the eye and makes her all but radiant.

Why Me? Dextelia (BastetAmun)

Look out world, Dextelia and Miryaath are two peas-in-a-pod and were destined to be with one another from the very start. Both rider and dragon are an energetic and sociable lot, which means they will always have something to do together, or at minimum, have someone to talk to! There will be few secrets between rider and dragon, and their friendliness and overall good cheer is likely to be compounded when they're at their best! There shan't be any long faces after this duo gets a hold of them! Dextelia's confidence will certainly get a boost from her sweet Miryaath, who will never let her feel adrift or unsure. There is nothing they can't accomplish together, and the green dragon will be a constant source of encouragement and confidence. Additionally, ever-needy Dextelia will never be alone again--especially with sweet Miryaath forever on her side, and at her every beck and call.
