[@ Haku]: I am curious. What are you up to? o.O I would never feed my cat food from a convenience store. (I don't trust them and I am attached to my fuzzy kitty.) And I am trying to work out the metaphysics of a Hack roleplay.

[@ Haku]: Ah, but they haven't eaten in two days and I only had enough cash for that food. T.T Tmw I am going to go to Petco but I couldn't leave them without food. [Haku makes me feel guilty ]
Dot Hack?

Well, if they're going to starve then by all means feed them whatever you can; however, my cat won't starve because he never goes long without food. I buy mine expensive pedigree stuff so he has all of his nutrients for when he doesn't get fed. (He's fat enough as it is.)
And if you've never heard of it, Hack was originally a manga series (of course animated) that explored The World, an online virtual game that everyone who enjoys RPGs played. It usually follows a litany of characters, but only a few of them are really the main characters of any particular variant. (Tsukasa in //SIGN, Haseo in //ROOTS, etc.) It's more entertaining than I make it out to be.

Oh! I think I remember seeing it before. If the one I am thinking about is right Tsukasa was that guy/girl with white hair and the weirdest personality ever. Right?

Well, considering his real-life player was a girl with an emotionally-distant/abusive father (or parents, I cannot remember), you might give him/her a little leeway. Plus he/she was stuck inside the game, unable to log out.

Sugar Dhaku Kaz, do you think that I should eschew the idea of having a real world or keep it? Because I am thinking of how expansive that the real world is, as well as how little of the story will be in the real world. Ooooh that's a tough one. It depends on how deep you want the storyline and each player's interaction with each other to be. If you want a wide world with immersive personal stories and backgrounds I'd say create an offline realm. Of course you might need to make an SMS thread for people offline to keep in contact with each other, either that or a message board.
But if you only want to focus on the action and the core "gameplay," I'd say you should focus solely on the World itself and create a small thread for offline interactions as an option. Most people tend to go with this method since, majority of this generation's roleplayers have trouble creating actual human emotions and development into a storyline. Instead they prefer to "shunpo-rasengan-kamehameha-you'redeadnao." But if you can find a key group of dedicated RPers then I'd suggest you go with the former and create an offline realm.
