Some places in Avenel have high enough doses of toxins in the air to be poisonous; this thing allows you to breathe while in these environments

Interesting, how long would it keep you from breathing in the poisonous toxins?

These little protrusions on its outside are filters; they're normally good for several hours, I have a few spare if they need replacing

I see, so it's kind of like a gas mask.

Yes; thats exactly what it is, but we call them respirators for some reason

Either way they're still the same.
