The chambers of Ophelia Paine were draped in the darkness and shadow that only a cold, moonless night could provide. Nothing could be heard beyond the faint whistling of the breeze beyond her open window. Quiet could be comforting, but that did not always guarantee that one was safe - let alone by one's self...

((I'm allergic to NPCs! Yeah, that's it! : D ))

Even kings need to use the little demon's room in the middle of the night and Kaistern yawned groggily as he came back to his room. But he stopped when he thought he heard something from Ophelia's room. What was she doing up at this hour? Curious, he slowly and carefully opened the door a crack and peeked inside.

{I have a feeling that's something we share, considering the reverse tug-of-war we go through every time one is needed. XD}

The mysterious figure was tall and lean, a knife gripped firmly in hand. It loomed over her, looking her sleeping form over as it pondered where best to strike...

It didn't take more than a second for Kaistern to snap and burst into the room, charging Ophelia's attacker right out the window he came through and sending them both plummeting to the ground below in a rain of broken glass.

The noise quite easilly woke Ophelia from her slumber, prompting her to immediately burst from her bed to examine the scene before her. Broken glass littered the floor near her window. Careful not to step on it, she peered outside to see two figures falling. One looked like Kaistern while the other was most unfamiliar. "Oh s**t." she muttured, her eyes widening as she began to piece the situation together. Without a moment's hesitation she slipped a robe on over her underwear for modesty and grabbing a small handgun before bolting from her room. She needed to get to Kaistern as quickly as possible, to calm his rage before any serious harm could be done. She could only hope that she would be able...

"I am SO SICK of you ******** giving her s**t!!" Kaistern screamed as he battled with the attacker, ignoring what cuts he got in the process. "You call ME a violent sociopath--even by demon standards--and yet the fragile HUMAN is the only one to ignore all my mental cracks! So all you JACKASSES should realize that trying to KILL her is crossing the ******** LINE!! Maybe if you'd stop giving Ophelia s**t all the time, you ******** would LAST LONGER!!" Anyone could see that this wasn't the usual crazy Kaistern outburst. Those were normally filled with bloodthirsty glee, but this was full of nothing but pure, unfiltered rage.

Ophelia ran extremely fast through hallways and down stairs, a look of pure worry staining her depicate face. She could hear him all the way from wherr she currently was, which only concerned her all the more. Her bare feet were terribly sore from running such a distance on the hard stone floors, but she didn't care, and still kept her impressive pace until the very moment she arrived on-scene. Her every desperate breath held a prayer for all to end well, but the pure rage she witnessed brought doubt down upon those hopes.

As if the earth itself were resonating with his anger, a storm rolled in and began pouring rain on the battered king. He just stood there, holding the assassin up by the neck to the thundering clouds. The body just hung there, limp in his hand and quite obviously dead and several bones broken, causing the battered body to look even more grim than it would normally as he nonchalantly flung it aside, his rage subsided as much as pummeling an already dead man could bring.

Ophelia slowly approached Kaistern once he tossed the brutalized body aside, the look of concern on her face having only gotten worse. "Kaistern?" she spoke up softly, trying to redirect his attention onto her. "Are...are you alright?" Even now, at his angriest, she was still worried about him. The only thing that kept her from offering a comforting hug was her concern that such a gesture in a time like this might be most unwelcome.

"...s**t, you're a lot of trouble..." Kaistern spat as he walked past her, not even casting a glance her way while heading back inside.

"I apologize, sire." Ophelia murmured faintly, only loud enough to barely be heard as he walked off. She would not say it, but his cold attitude towards her hurt quite a bit. She didn't believe that he'd ever talk to her like that. It was presumptuous expecting more than that, she realised, but that didn't dull the pain any. She hesitated to follow, unsure whether or not company or solitude would help him more.
