Half-Blood War (Aslumber)

Malinda went into her room and set the fan against the wall. She looked at herself in the mirror again and frowned. Going into the bathroom, she changed into a black shirt and jeans and threw on a pair of black sneakers. Satisfied, she left the room and began roaming; the fan now hanging over her shoulder.

Amia's eyes fluttered open. She was having a great dream and now she lay there trying to recover it.

"Ah, they're awake now!" Jira exclaimed happily, speaking a bit loudly on impulse. She was ready to get up and moving instead of standing still any longer. "Come on, get up! There's lots to do!"

Erik yawned again as he shuffled past her and the furniture, over to the crowded kitchen. "Miss Heron, nobody's had breakfast yet..." He mumbled, shifting a large bowl and a couple of dark, glass bottles out of the way to figure out what would be good to eat. "If you're bored, just make some bread or something. You're good at that."


A knock on his door woke Theras up and he automatically assumed that it was some part of day. There were no windows in his room that would have allowed him to know himself, but in that section of the Underworld there wouldn't have been any sunlight to let in, which was why he'd told someone to wake him as the world above was as well. He stretched in bed, feeling a little refreshed from fighting Gerad the other night and re-tightened the black cloth across his eyes that had loosened in sleep when he stood up. He wondered what he should do that day as he took a pomegranate from a bowl on his nightstand, cracking it open to munch on.

Len laughed as his sister woke up with Jira's yelling. She kicked him in the gut, glaring at him as she turned into the sofa, burying her face to shut out the light. He held his stomach as he stood. "So, Erik, need any help in the kitchen?"

Devon was landing on the ground at the gate of the Underworld. He had gotten bored of walking so decided to fly the rest of the way. The guard standing watch recognized him and nodded Devon through the passage while the spirits of the dead mourned and begged to be let through too. This is just such a pitiful place... He couldn't wait to be surrounded by the living again.

"Yeah, I guess so," Erik bumped his head lightly against one of the closed cabinets. He was still a bit tired. "I'm not sure what you guys like to eat for breakfast."

Len walked over to Erik. "Me and Ren will eat about anything. We're not picky." He dug through the mess on the counter and in the cabinets, finally finding a pan and a pot. "Do you got any eggs or fruit?"  

[Strider Wolfheart]

"That was Gerad, not me. Me and Theras don't stop fighting until someone wins." Jason took another sip of coffee. He looked out the window at the rising sun. A sense of nostalgia over whelmed him. "And even as the sun rose, light faded into nothing and became darkness. So that even the passing of a moment was no more then the cascade of eternity." Jason sipped his coffee. "My father said that once." As he said that Gerad rolled on the floor.

"Oh yeah." She liked the way the saying sounded, it was deep. She realized now that she still hasn't met a god yet. "Is there like... some sort of 'common curacy' thing to do when you're in the presence of a god?"  

[Ty Gwynnia]

"We should somewhere if they're not lost in all of this mess."

"Hey, I know where everything is in that 'mess'," Jira called, tossing her ponytail in a pout. "The eggs are above you, and the fruit is to the left of Len behind the bag of rocks."

"Rocks? Why in the world do you need rocks?"

"Blacksmith stuff. You wouldn't understand it."

As Theras wandered down the halls away from his solitary room, popping seeds into his mouth, he began to wonder on what he should do. Three or four of his relatives, that he knew about at least, were in one place at that point in time. Perhaps they'd found more. He didn't know, but he knew that showing his face again so soon wasn't a smart idea. Malinda was supposed to be going to the surface, armed, though when and if she was coming with him, he wasn't sure. He set off to find her and ask what her own plan was.

"For one, never ask the goddesses how old they are." Jason remembered umpleasent thoughts of that and he shivered. "Sencond, be polite. And lastly, don't interuptt them."

Gerad sat up and wiped his eyes. "Mmmmm, good morning."

"Oh, hey Gerad. Nice to know you can wake up. Want some coffee?" Jason lifted his mug to show his coffee.

Gerad looked at Jason. "Yes, please. Man how long did I sleep?"

Jason got up to prepare Gerad a mug of coffee. "Oh for about 3 hours." He poured in the coffee and the hot water and stirred it.

Gerad got up and walked over, taking the mug offered by Jason. "Thank you." Gerad took a sip and almost spat it out. After swallowing he held his mouth open. "Hot, hot, hot!"

Amia finally reopened her eyes and peeled the blanket she was given back. She yawned and sat up. "Morning everyone."

"Morning. How'd ya sleep?" Jira tossed an extra pillow at Amia, bored.

"Great actually." Amia smiled and caught the pillow. She put it behind her head and leaned back. "How about yourself?"

"Eh," Jira shrugged, reaching back to toy with the end of her hair. "Waiting for everyone to get their lazy butts up and decide what to do now."

Malinda looked around at the nothingness. "Hmm...some would find this lonely..I find it quite peaceful...Yes, that's the word."

((Wrong place, Jason in the other house was talking about it.))

"Coffee, what coffee?" Jira glanced around. Had she not heard someone speak? Maybe Amia was still a little drowsy. "I think we have some, if you want. I don't drink the stuff but Erik insisted on buying it."

"I like it." Erik mumbled as he took the pan Len was holding and put it over an oven burner. As it heated up he retrieved the eggs and cracked a few, the pan sizzling as they hit the surface.

After walking for a while, Theras finally found himself at the place that Malinda called home. He knocked on the doorframe but heard no movement outside. She must have already gone. He shrugged to himself. It didn't matter much, she'd find her own way above. With that, he changed directions and made his way back to the front gates of the Underworld. A Hellhound followed behind him, excited for the return trip to the surface, and he dug into a pocket to take out a small cake. He tossed it to one of Cerberus's three heads as he walked out and the massive dog made a happy humming sound in its throats.
