The eternal fire in the Temple of Vesta in the Roman Forum was extinguished, and the Vestal Virgins were disbanded.

In the year three hundred ninety three, Emperor Flavius Theodosius names his sons Flavius Arcadius and Flavius Honorius to the rank of co-Augustus (co-rulers with him). Arcadius was twelve, while Honorius was ten at the time.

A sizable army is sent out from Sparta to challenge this force. The two sides meet on the dry bed of the Nemea River, in Corinthian territory. In the resultant Battle of Nemea, the Spartans win a major victory over the allies.

Following his death the empire is re-divided into an eastern and a western half.
Flavius Arcadius rules the eastern half, centered in Constantinople, while the
the western half in Rome is under Arcadius' younger brother, Flavius Honorius.
