"...yeah" She said, covering her face from embarrassment. "I kinda misfired there... forgot the proper amount of earth chakra in the balance. " She said. She didn't wish to tell him that there wasn't actually an effect she was going for. The instructions told her she had too feel out the similarities and differences in each element of chakra. Then she had to remove the differences one at a time. Right now she wasn't ready to even try the assimilation, since she had not FELT the differences herself.
She was still acutely aware of the man watching her, though, and it caused her to misfire again, blowing the column she was practicing on up with a burst of way too much earth power. She swore to herself, and moved around to another nearby piece of stone. She tried a few more times, trying to get the right amount, but she was still very flustered by the attention.

Aiko finally got over her nerves enough, or maybe she just got lucky. Either way, this time she put in just the right amount of each of the 4 elements thus far. Now when she added lightning, there was just a feeling of heat. She quickly removed her finger, and added to a large list of notes she had been making. She didn't want to let the small defeat ruin her momentum.

Finally, She added air. All five elements. She had felt each one, and mapped out the overlap. She performed the hand signs on the rock. This time all she felt was energy. It wasn't purified like it needed to be, but it was blended. She found the core, and scribbled some new noted. Now she knew what strands should be kept.

Aiko referred back to her notes. She was sure that the guy nearby must think her a freak, since she kept doing hand signs and touching a rock with no signs of progress...it made her a little defensive in her mind, even though he hadn't said anything. She had to touch the rock, so that she could analyze the elements as they overlapped in the stone, and compare it to the elements and how they overlapped in her body at each step. She was supposed to compare all that to some "core energy" present in the make up of each of the five elements that make up each one....Unfortunately in order to get that, you must first overlap all five elements, and remove everything except that core, which was the same in all of the elements. It meant that she must slowly overlay each element untill all 5 were present, and compare each stage of that to the substance she wished to incorperate. Once she had the core she should be able to apply it to any object whose internal energies had the same rate of motion...in other words, once she found the core of energy for a solid, she could then apply it to all solids. Since this core made up everything, and was available in its purest form in her body, she would be able to form her body into any solid substance. She had completed the first half now. Now she had to unravel each element in reverse order, removing only the properties not present in the overlap she had just taken the time to create. The first thing she pulled away was lightning. She removed it's reactivity, it's heat, it's chemical boundaries. She left behind its pure value as energy, and it's ability to be channeled. She left enough that the removed properties of lightning could be rebuilt with what was left.

Aiko paused. "What do you want anyways?" she asked, annoyed at his standing there watching her.
She moved on though. Wasted time disgusted her, and she had to do this.
The next element she removed was the element of air. She removed it's whimsicality. She limited it's flexibility, and removed its convection attributes, and it's gaseous form. She left its cooling influences, and its perseverance, and it's adaptability...as well as it's core energy. She left enough that the removed tendancies of air could be rebuilt with what was left.

the final element she removed was earth. She removed it's dependence on specific substances, but left it's ability to form a solid. She left a small position of it's conductibility such that she could build it to diffuse charge as rock, or conduct it as metal. She left it's endurance. She left it's strength. She wrote down the formula for the core that was left. She did the hand signs again, and touched the stone. As she did so she felt it's core being as she had each time before. Her entire body shiifted as herr chakra was altered. Her chakra was malleable, and without element. The chakra permeated all of the human body. She reshaped it. First, building the core she had made. Then she used that core to perfectly match the core essence of the rock she touched...with her life chakras. Her skin went hard. It became dense as rock, and it became completely brittle all the way through. It gained the ability to defuse electricity...a sort of "walking ground" status. She gained it's specific heat. She gained its hardness. She lost the flexibility of flesh, She lost it's soft, responsive elasticity. She lost feeling. She lost the spring like pull of muscle, as each muscle took on properties of the ruin's stone column. She walked away from the column. A golom made from her own flesh, transmuted into ancient stone.

Aiko walked over to a pot hole in the floor, and poured water into it. The hole held the water like a bowl. She did a different set of hand signs, and touched the water. She felt it's core form. She made notes about it's core and it's nature.

She looked over her formulae. Where the stone from before was essentially earth, this was entirely water. This meant that she would need to be extra careful not to take any attributes of water that she didn't need, or it would be detrimental when she tried to absorb a different liquid. She repeated the hand signs, and added earth first. She paused as she watched the water turn into a murky, dull mud. Apparently this was not the starting element. She had thought it might be because when she did earth assimilation she was told to start with water. apparently they were not just reversals of each other.

Decided she would try fire next. She re-poured new water. She performed the hand signs, and touched the new pool...and it evaporated. She stared at the hole in the floor, and rolled her eyes. This was going to be harder than she wanted it to be, it seemed.

She refilled the pool. So if earth and fire were wrong, then maybe the right element was lightning? She added it in. She felt the water's core split. Oxygen and hydrogen were produced, but the result was very similar to when she used fire... the pool was still gone. She poured more water. This was the last of it, so if she messed it up now she would be walking back home to get more water... She did not like the prospect of this. She used water this time. and nothing happened. The water simply rippled a little. She stared at it, annoyed.

She finally caved and looked back at the notes that man had given her. The notes said that the process of becoming a liquid build upon the knowledge gained in becoming a solid. Water was a reactive substance, unlike stone. It would respond adversely to any unbalanced usage of power. She thought about it... then gave up and then decided to take a short cut. The elements would not change when compared to a liquid. She had already observed the water's core. She added all five elements at once, and got to the same overlay that she had with the stone. The core principals were just slightly different, because of the different energies in a liquid state, but essentially the process seemed similar.

She removed lightning. She removed it's directness, she removed it's tendency to trigger muscles, she removed it's heat, she removed its chemical nature, she removed it's ability to be conducted. She left it's subtle pulse of energy, and ability to power things. She left enough of it's core essence to rebuild any of the properties she stripped from it, but nothing more.

She removed earth next, while fire and air were still there to prevent it from mixing into the water as mud. She removed it's chemical basis, it's structure, it's strictness. She removed it's brittleness, and it's form. She left it's durability, and it's timelessness, and it's strength.

Next she was faced with a dilemma. If she removed fire, the pool would freeze, thus changing it's energy core, and voiding it's liquid state. If she removed air, it would heat up, and probably evaporate. But she quickly found the obvious answer. water. She could put all the water energy she wanted into this mess, and it wouldn't do anything since the pool was already water. She figured she could have actually built the core up from scratch, now, since it would be the reverse of the process she was doing now... but she was still grateful for the time she shaved off with that.

She removed the properties of air next, that tied it to a gaseous form. She left it's convection tendency, and it's malleability and adaptability. She removed a degree of it's freedom. As she did this, she used more water to counterbalance the fire left over, but it slowly began to warm anyways, so she quickly moved on.

she then removed the elements of fire that gave it heat. She removed its tendency to break down compounds, and she removed it's reactivity and it's links to compounds and matter. She left its energy and it's sense of change and renewal.

Finally she removed the material nature of water. This was the final seal, as water was too specific. H20. What she wanted was the core that bound a liquid. A core small enough to make up any liquid, and fit the roles perfectly. She left waters liquid state, and it's adaptability, and its permanence, and it's self renewing cyclical nature. She left it's ability to dissolve solids, and it's ebbs and flows, and it's fluidity.

She analyzed the core that she now had, and she wrote it down. She then performed the necessary hand signs and touched the pool again. Her chakra signal snapped back into its solid form fiercely, sending a shock wave through her system. What the hell? She looked through her notes....there was nothing. She sat down and meditated. It wasn't the core she had wrong. Otherwise her chakra would have still tried to form it. Instead, her chakra became rigid before she even tried to test the liquid core... She looked in on it. It wouldn't respond to her attempts to change it's form. She performed a shadow clone jutsu, and two more hers stood staring at her. It seemed there wasn't an issue with her other jutsus. She continued meditating. there was something there. A shell of sorts, around her chakra. It was getting weaker by the second, but what was it? She looked inside it. It seemed to be made up of her own chakra. It swirled around the main core of her chakra, reforming it, and solidifying it. As the chakra learned to be solid, the wall disappeared. The places where it was gone was malleable again... She observed the effect. I see. she thought. So the core chakra within her takes time to adapt before it can be changed again. She guessed she would have to wait to see the liquid state in action then.

With that she stood up. She could not reshape again, and she was hungry. She got into her bag, and pulled out a roll of bread and some cheese, and began eating.

after the meal the block was gone, and Aiko walked back over to the pool. She performed the necessary hand signs, and touched the water. Her body instantly disintegrated into a puddle on the floor. <********> She thought to herself as she laid there, unable to move.
Aiko tried to concentrate on moving herself off the ground. She could not form hand signs in order to use Suiton...and she didn't know the suiton she needed to try. She tried to manipulate the water element without hand signs, but ultimately it failed.

She laid there on the floor, beginning to panic greatly. She tried to simply will herself to move. She tried to concentrate on forming a body, or even just making a ripple. She thought long and hard about it, but ultimately, she failed.

She wanted to look at her notes... but she was a puddle of water, abd couldn't manage that. She thought back long and hard about what she was doing. There must be something she was missing, or forgetting. She concentrated inwards looking inside herself. She was still able to think...why was this?... because she was still alive, she answered. This was a good sign. The next question she had to ask herself, was where was her mind, if she could be thinking, her neurons would have to exist. the answer she gave herself was: amongst the puddle. There was chakra here still. There was thought here. She could see still. She still had all her major functions. Sight. Hearing, smell. All of these still worked. This was a start.

She tried to remember. This was part of the Douka techniques. These techniques involved manipulation of the chakra beyond the 5 elements. She concentrated, feeling all the chakra in her body. She could feel her shape now. She was more aware of herself, and her puddle of a body.

She finally understood. She manipulated the pure form of chakra within her veins, and her body floated into the air. It was chunky, and she could only accelerate in one essential direction at a time, but she knew that she was going to get through this. At first parts of her body failed to be held, and fell to the floor, but she soon got the hang of it.

Now she was a puddle of water that could fly... but she still felt unshapely, and it would be really great to be able to have a physical form. She tried to alter the shape of her body again. first, she had to master the whole control thing. She attempted to pull the cells together into a physical form. The particles accelerated in a straight path, but at first would not go in separate directions. This would prevent her from reforming, since making her cells converge into a body required making them move in different directions from one another.

She threw her shape around. Eventually hitting a wall. This finally cause her shape to shift, but not in a good way, nor intentionally. She also left even more of herself on the wall.

This had given her an idea. She pushed into the wall again, this time focusing in on the cells within her body. She felt the way they interacted with one another while she used the wall to forcibly move them in comparison to one another.

It hurt a little. She realized this. All of her chakra was being forcibly connected to itself. She had been trying to pull herself into a single body this entire time, but she hadn't actually paid attention to what she was doing. Instead of the particles being pulled together, her efforts were actually fusing the particles into the form they were in by holding the chakra pathways still.

She released the particles. Now, instead of them being held in position, they were freely floating. She could still feel each and every particle, but now they moved randomly. She tried to give each of them form, telling each particle to move in a certain way. The particles formed into a perfect sphere as she willed it. Her mind adapted to the mind set, and she became even more adept at knowing exactly how each cell was positioned. The sphere soon formed crudely designed arms and legs. Then, by giving it a spark of her subconscious, her body formed from the water....except that she was herself as a little girl. She wondered what had happened...and then looked out over the room.

She realized the cause almost immediately. Everything was soaked. The entirety of the ruins had parts of her spread everywhere. She had lost an incredible amount of mass over the course of her teaching herself to move. She walked over to one of the more soaked areas. She tried to reach out and feel the particles, but they didn't respond.

She walked over to the notes again. They were soaked, but luckily, they were still legible. She scanned over them. By not placing chakra in them by intentionally moving the cells, they were left without chakra in them. This prevented them from being summoned to her the regular way, it seemed, from her reading.

She continued to think. The notes said that these parts of her were not lost forever, but that normal water would not do to replace the lost liquid. The reason for both statements was the same. The liquid that was once part of her had something in it that other water didn't have. It might not have any chakra in it, but it still had chakra pathways.

She stood and looked over the field. If all it took to control parts of her body was chakra. And these parts had the pathways necessary to hold her chakra, then she would need to somehow introduce her chakra to the cells in order to regain use of them. She sent out a small amount of chakra at the cells of her body nearby. a smallish area joined her, but overall it was ineffective if you compared the amount of cells she gained back to the amount she lost to begin with.

That had been highly impractical...and she didn't like being in a little girl sized body. She looked over the notes again, but found little that helped. She let out another larger burst of energy, which succeeded in exhausting her... but only got her back a fraction of her cells.

There had to be some way to be some way to get her body back together more efficiently, she thought as she rested to recover stamina. She dozed off a little, and it seemed as if her features melted, but when she snapped to, her body reformed naturally, because of the chakra in contact with it. She noticed that in her reflection in one of the pools she had caused nearby. She thought for a moment. She touched one of the pools, and her chakra flowed through it, causing it to rejoin her being....I see, she though.

She altered the flow of her chakra. Instead of sending a pulse of energy over a distance, thus expending way more energy than was necissary, she used her chakra in order to expand her chakra over the area, instead. This way, a good percentage of it could be pulled back. She lost about a sixth of her total chakra, but in the end, her body was fully reformed as every bit of lost material rushed back into her body.

The maiden with the mask drew back a flask. It was going to be a bit more complicated with all that was going on, that and she... Well, she was always a bit slower with her ninjutsu. Drawing forth one of many scrolls on her person, she grinned.

Inhaling the flask, which had been filled with water just earlier, and swished it about in her mouth. It was like checking the fine grain of a good alcohol. Spitting back into the flask, she began to channel chakra.

Nevertheless, the chakra was slow to take, as she determined the proper ratio for a fine sake. Hers was just as potent as any other Oni's, however the fact that she was a bit more sober than most made her a bit more odd. Swirling the flask, she took a whiff.

The flask definitely possessed the scent of booze. It was certainly a bit more pleasant than the odorless water. A sigh of relief and the performing oni set the flask to her hip once more, satisfied.

Biting her lip, the masked woman found herself leaping through the ruins, running by two genin. One was clearly another Oni, but the other... Well, that one lacked defining features like an Oni. That made her simply another of the normal ones, sprinting off for the academy.

She looked to see in her notes, if there was anything there to help her out. She discovered two possibilities. the first was changing the size by adding particles. The second was changing the size by changing the density... she didn't wish to weigh more, so she chose the second. She looked at the notes. The difference, it seemed, between moving particles away from each other, and changing their density, had to do with their bonds to each other.

Aiko concentrated on the bonds this time. She tried to simply will them further apart...but then the body parts in question fell on the floor, the cells unattached to each other. She recovered them, and then tried to consider the process at hand again. What was i doing wrong? she asked herself.

Aiko read over the scrolls again. The bonds were the key factor... what held her together? She asked herself. The answer to that could be covalent bonds... but that didn't give her a form. She removed her chakra from her finger, and it fell to the ground. The bonds that she wished to control was the chakra itself.

Aiko tried to move the cells away from each other, but strictly held their placement. This was hard to do, since she had to actively concentrate on each and every cell. They fluctuated randomly, and weren't as still as they should be.

Aiko Let them go back to their normal place. She thought for a second. What if she was to expand the boundary lines? She thought about how to do this.... larger boundaries.... She put more energy into all of the boundaries, but this used a lot of energy... she couldn't have that, as iut wouldn't be useful.

This time, she simply stretched the boundaries. They thinned, and became weak, but they were stable. She looked at her curvier shape and smiled. She could change her density now.
