"Stun Spore? You got it!" Fela confirmed with Tristen, turning her attention to the battle at hand, little Scatterbug ready and willing to fight. She watched as Tristen gave Wimpod its command, the critter immediately sending itself rocketing off the ground and on a collision course for its target. That was their cue. "Go Scatterbug! Make sure that mouse doesn't interfere! Use Stun Spore!" The girl commanded.

With a squeal of a cry Scatterbug would raise its tail in the air and begin to rattle it rapidly, unleashing from it a thick cloud of yellow powder which the breeze carried straight for the sitting Azurill, the baby Pokemon immediately hacking and coughing as it got a lung fully of the paralysis inducing powder. Its partner was doing a bit worse as Wimpod slammed right into it and swept the now soak dog off all four of its feet, dispatching it into a puddle of water formed by the attacked.

"What the-!? That bug used a Water move! No fair!" The kid protested, more focused on the Super Effective hit his dog just took rather than the fact that his mouse was paralyzed. Looks like Tristen's assumption was at least partially correct, the kid saw what he thought were easy pickings. "Houndour, use Ember on the Scatterbug! Azurill, use Helping Hand!" The boy commanded. Oh yeah, it was obvious, he thought he was going to incinerate some bugs.

Azurill began to jump up and down on is ball as it began to cheer for Houndour however in the middle of one jump it suddenly froze up in midair and fell to the ground, laying on the dirt still. Azurill was fully paralyzed. Houndour however did not wait for any sort of response from its partner, the wet dog getting back on its feet, growling, and then spitting a flurry of Ember at Scatterbug.

The Ember would make contact with the worm causing it to cry out in pain as it took suffered a Super Effective hit, dealing considerable damage to the little creature. "Scatterbug! You okay!?" Fela cried out for the bug, Scatterbug letting out a little chirp of confirmation that it could still fight. "Good call on the Stun Spore, it prevented that Ember from being much worse but Scatterbug can't take another one of those, Tristen." The girl said to her partner trainer. "What now?"

“Hey, you picked the battle with us, you knew what you were doing!” Tristen shouted over to the opposing trainer. “Focus on the Houndour. Even as a fire type, it still won’t like a Struggle Bug too much because of its Dark typing.” Tristen then said to Fela. “We got to take him out as fast as possible so Scatterbug still has a shot to make it out of this battle conscious.” It wasn’t wrong, he thought. There was that chance, though there was also that possibility that even if they managed to dispatch the Houndour in short order, Azurill might still get a lucky shot in to take out Scatterbug in spite of its paralysis. As much as Tristen didn’t like to admit it, Houndour actually made things go sour just by being released out against the two of them. Between that, Fela’s seemingly general battle inexperience, and their two Pokémon’s inexperience, odds were stacked against them just to try to get Scatterbug to evolve. Tristen knew that going into this was rather risky – he could have at the very least sent out Castform and just made this battle rather quick and not involved Scatterbug at all. Unfortunately, Scatterbug would have not had anything to gain out of it either if he had. Life was not that easy, after all…

“Wimpod!” Tristen called out to his bug. The Wimpod’s antennae practically shot up once addressed. “You’re doing good! Try to cover Scatterbug! Use another Aqua Jet!” Once again, Wimpod scrambled around, kicking up another watery trail, rushing for the Houndour. If nothing else, he was going to try to keep this Houndour distracted. With the threat of a constant water assault, he was hoping that he could make the trainer change tactics some and lay off of Scatterbug.

Once again Wimpod would send itself hurtling into Houndour like a wet buggy bullet, the Turn Tail Pokemon slamming into the dog and knocking it off its feet. Houndour would barely be able to sustain this second Super Effective attack, the hound stumbling onto its feet after coming to a stop, water dripping from is coat as it gave off a defiant growl at Wimpod, swaying all the while.

"Now is our chance, Scatterbug! Struggle Bug!" Fela said, giving the order Tristen suggested. This was their moment, Houndour was weakened, barely able to stand let alone focus, and was paying attention to Wimpod. Scatterbug would be motivated by this weakness as well and the display its fellow Bug Pokemon gave and without a hint of fear rushed towards the Houndour, Bug energy building up inside of it.

The dog would notice the presence of the worm too late once there was but two feet of space between them, the dog attempting to conjure up an Ember as sparks flickered from its lips but alas Scatterbug would let out a cry and wiggle its body wildly as it unleashed its Struggle Bug in the form of 'ribbons' of Bug energy which were unleashed from around it, the ribbons bursting on contact with Houndour.

"Houndour! No!" The trainer cried out as his Dark type finally succumb to its injuries, the dog toppling over, knocked out cold. As the kid recalled his Pokemon he gave a command to the other. "Azurill! Don't go down without a fight! Use Slam on the worm!" The young trainer ordered.

Bouncing up and down on its ball for a bit, Normal energy swelling up within the ball, Azurill would let out several little cries as it pumped itself up as a faint aura of energy materializing around it. For a brief moment Azurill twitched a bit, as if the paralysis would grip it again but the mouse fought through it and continued with its revenge. Once its ball was glowing white the Polka Dot Pokemon would jump off its tail, bring the ball tipped tail up and over its head as its leaped towards Scatterbug, and as the baby Pokemon landed on the ground it would bring the full force of its Huge Power boosted Slam move upon the head of Scatterbug.

"Scatterbug, watch out!" Fela cried out but it was too late, Scatterbug was helpless, the worm paralyzed with fear as it bore witness to the feeble baby Pokemon fight through its paralysis and turn into a terrifying and merciless monster. It could only stare at the glowing white ball of pain coming down upon it before everything went black for Scatterbug. Scatterbug fainted.

"Scatterbug you did your best..." The girl sighed, disappointed as she recalled their worm. "Tristen, what was that!? How did something so cute and tiny harness such power? Look, it even left an indent in the ground where it made impact!" Fela asked Tristen, pointing to the little crater-like indent in the ground where Scatterbug once was. "...can Wimpod beat that thing?" She whispered.

"There is a lot more where that came from! This battle isn't over!" The young trainer declared while his Azurill happily bounced up and down on its tail as it awaited further command, twitching every now and then thanks to the paralysis.

“Scatterbug!” Tristen shouted in shock when the Slam made contact with the tiny bug.

“Paaaaa!” Wimpod screeched out, completely wide eyed and antenna shooting straight up again out of sheer panic. The watery bug was starting to sweat bullets once more. His partner was taken out in a flash.

Tristen grimaced for a second, then looked back over towards Fela. “Sorry, Fela. I wish I could have helped more.” He remorsefully said. “I really wanted Scatterbug to stay up in the battle.” Tristen practically read this kid like a book. It did in fact have Huge Power, and it was going to use it now that its partner had been effectively dispatched. While the chances was good that he could still win this battle, the problem was trying to ensure it. He was fairly certain that Wimpod wasn’t going to get taken out in one shot. That said, he was fairly certain that a good enough blow would be enough for Wimpod to escape to its ball and possibly force another one of Tristen’s Pokémon out in its place. Wimpod was already looking for excuses as is, it looked. He didn’t want that to happen if he could help it.

“Wimpod, just calm down! We can still try get payback for Scatterbug!” he shouted. “Sand Attack!”

“Wimmpaa!” Frantically, it kicked up all manner of dust and dirt, sending it flying all over the place, let alone towards the Azurill. It wouldn’t be too farfetched to think that Wimpod was perhaps wanting to dig a way out of this battle as frantic as it was kicking up the earth.

"Azu!" Shouted the Azurill as it took a face full of dirt from the Sand Attack, the arm-less creature flailing around as it tried to shake the foreign matter out of its eyes to no avail. "Azurill, it's okay! We still got this! Calm down and Slam that thing into the dirt!" The young trainer ordered.

His Pokemon would continue to panic over the Sand Attack for a few seconds longer before it calmed down enough to scan the area, spot what it assumed to be Wimpod, and squinted at it for a bit. For a brief moment it looked like Azurill would seize up and be fully paralyzed again but alas it did not, the Azurill starting to bounce up and down on its tail as it prepared to leap and swing. Once it gained enough bounce the Azurill would taking a flying leap and bring its white glowing tail ball down upon...the bare ground about six inches to the left of Wimpod, completely missing its target.

"No! Azurill you missed! Ugh...move away from that bug!" He pleaded with his Pokemon, knowing good and well it wasn't in a good position just sitting there next to the opponent but unfortunately for the young trainer the twitchy paralyzed Azurill wasn't going to move quick enough for avoid anything Wimpod could throw at it, it was a sitting duck in this moment.

And thus, Tristen would find himself a bit under pressure in this battle; the limited battle capabilities that a Wimpod was able to do. Until he manages to evolve, Wimpod was going to be severely limited. It was to his fortune right now Wimpod could still use Aqua Jet against the Azurill, albeit not as good as it would have been against the Houndour. Struggle Bug was a bit of a no-go though, because of Azurill’s fairy typing. Tristen wondered if there was anything else that he could have done with Wimpod before the battle – maybe try to teach it other attacks. If there really was much of anything it could be taught before Wimpod evolves, whenever that was. All he could do now was to make sure that Azurill stayed in its debilitated state before it manages to get another shot off. “Wimpod! Aqua Jet!” he then commanded.

Wimpod rushed off towards the Azurill once again, its reckless, speedy scurry across the field to ram into the Azurill while it was blinded. And while Azurill not having any arms to try to at least try something in getting the dirt from its eyes, Tristen needed this battle to end sooner than later.

Wimpod would make contact with Azurill in a blank of an eye, the trip from where the bug was standing and where the mouse was already incredibly short, Aqua Jet make it even shorter. Azurill would get hit by the Water move and get sent bouncing backwards until it regained its 'footing' and began to bounce in place, glaring at the Wimpod defiantly and grimacing in pain. That move hurt but it wasn't enough to put the baby Pokemon down for the count.

"This isn't working, it's time to break out the big guns...use Bounce!" The kid commanded.

It was a risky move, one which would send Azurill high into the air and then come crashing down on its foe with tremendous might, however if the mouse missed its target or landed incorrectly it could end poorly as all that inertia had to go somewhere. Twitching for a brief moment but shaking it off Azurill began to bounce in place a couple times before spring forward a bit, then took a wide bounce and finally one giant leap forward before rocketing up off the ground and high into the air above the 'battlefield'.

"It can bounce that high!?" Fela declared in surprise as she watched the tiny creature go flying off up into the sky, looking like an even tinier blue dot than it already was as it rose upward. "Tristen!" Fela called out to the boy and while she verbally only said his name it essentially translated to 'what are you going to do?'. If Azurill actually managed to connect with Wimpod on its way down there was no way the Bug type would survive the Flying move. That said the odds still leaned in Tristen's favor thanks to the paralysis and reduce accuracy, that said Tristen definitely should take this opportunity to tip the scales further in his favor, somehow.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 03, 2024 4:51 pm
Tristen couldn’t help but to look up, step back even just to try to see where the Azurill went. Tristen found it rather ballsy of the kid to try to pull this stunt. Between the sand in its eyes, the paralysis, and the fact that Bounce wasn’t that reliable either, left the odds in Tristen’s favor. However, there was always that chance that the Azurill could guide itself on its descent and leave a massive hurt. Originally Tristen didn’t imagine that Azurill could have beaten Wimpod like this, but the bounce leaves it well up in the air. Literally and figuratively. If Azurill succeeds, Tristen could attempt to call for a Defense Curl and he doubted the extra defenses could weather the blow thanks to the Huge Power the Azurill demonstrated. Tristen needed to try to up the odds in his favor somehow, but he was drawing at a loss as to what to do. Wimpod didn’t have much in the arsenal to do anything significant, let alone to the Azurill that’s in the air and getting ready to make its descent.

Tristen remembered one other thing that never really came up between he and Fela. He told both she and Penny about how Wimpod usually tries to get away by any means necessary, preferring to run or curl up somewhere. They did whatever they could. Aqua Jet being one such instance to run, escaping from a fight like a Zubat out of hell. Perhaps he could use one of those flee tactics rather offensively…

“Wimpod! Spikes!” he shouted.

Wimpod quickly started rushing about the field, shaking away. Its carapace started to shed all over the place. Wimpod quickly scurried, frantically, trying to do as commanded. As they landed, the scales gleamed in the sunlight, razor sharp and pointy, stuck in the ground. The opposing trainer would realize with Wimpod running around, it was going to be hard to get a hard track on Wimpod between the Sand Attack and paralysis still running its course, and now if the Azurill misses, especially more probable with a frantically moving target…well, happy landings.

As the Spikes were scattered about the young trainer went from confused to concern to outright panic in a matter of seconds as it dawned on him what was about to happen. Even if Azurill landed on its target it would still bounce off of Wimpod and land on those Spikes, hurting itself and if it missed there was no way it would survive the impact with the ground coupled with the Spike stabbing into it. This was bad, really bad. "Azurill! Abort! Aim for the grass! Something!" The trainer cried out but it was no good, Azurill was already coming back down, its trajectory decided.

The mouse would fall towards Wimpod's general area, the bug running around. For but a second it seemed like maybe Azurill would land on Wimpod as the bug started to run directly in its path but Wimpod veered and Azurill seized up in mid-air due to the paralysis. Azurill would completely miss its mark and slam into the ground with an audible 'thud' and immediately have its tail ball pierced by numerous spikes. The little mouse would stand on its ball for a second as if registering what just happened, channeling a bit of Slowpoke in that moment.

"Azu...RILL!" It cried out suddenly as it registered the pain of the impact and the Spikes, the baby Pokemon shooting back up into the air, crying out in pain as it flailed around, and then came crashing back down to Earth and fainting from the sustained damage. Azurill fainted, Tristen and Fela win!

"No! Azurill!" The boy cried as he ran over and picked up his Pokemon. "Darn it...so close..." He sighed, recalling his Pokemon.

"You did it Tristen and Wimpod! That was awesome!" Fela congratulated them both, offering Tristen a high five. She then looked over at the boy, still kneeling on the ground after recalling his Pokemon. He seemed really upset over his loss as he just stared at the ground. "...is he going to be okay?" She asked Tristen.

“See Wimpod! You can do it! You just did!”

“Wim…paaa? WIMPAAA!” It shouted scurrying. It was over. It didn’t want to go through that again. It was overjoyed. He survived. A flurry of happy emotions as he quickly scurried over towards Tristen and jumped in his arms.

“See, you need to stick it out more. You won.” He looked over towards Fela, accepting of the high-five from Fela. Tristen wished that Scatterbug could have been out to take the win as well, making it a complete and total victory, since after all Scatterbug was the main reason why they were out there, but it was what it was, unfortunately. Before he could make the suggestion to run to the nearest Pokémon center to bring Scatterbug back into the world of consciousness, Fela brought up the other trainer that challenged the two of them. The kid was dejected. If it weren’t for the circumstances, he would feel a bit more sympathy for the loss. Between getting upset from the sudden super effective shot from Wimpod to his Houndoom to managing to outsmarting him at the last moment, let alone thinking he could handle two trainers in one go, the kid was thinking he was better than he was. At the very least, the kid was looking for an easy win and he ended up getting humiliated instead by otherwise a cowardly Pokémon.

He would walk over towards the trainer across the battlefield, minding the spikes that Wimpod laid about and knelt down near the kid with Wimpod still in his arms. He started to recall those training sessions that he had in the Snagem headquarters, knowing what his adoptive father and teacher practically did to him. A point to be sure was made before this kid left. “So, what did you learn here today?” Tristen asked, not to mock, but he was stern. The kid probably needed to choose his words carefully.

The little kid looked up at Tristen for several seconds, tears welling up in his eyes for but a moment before the child sniffled, rubbed his eyes, and stood up, head hanging. "I shouldn't try to take cheap shots..." He almost whined, his wording and the way he said it sounded like he had been in this situation before and had been scolded about it before. "...you're pretty good though...are you new at the academy?" He said to Tristen specifically, having looked to Fela behind before turning his attention back to Tristen before asking the question, a suspicious look on his face as if he had some kind of inkling that he may have heard of Tristen.

Shrugging off any of those thoughts for the time being he slapped his hands together and affirmed his resolve. "Okay! No more tricks! I'll have to work harder to bring honor to Naranja House! I'll make Nemona proud! Watch your back next time, Uva worm! You made a new rival on this day!" He declared, pointing a finger at Tristen before running off up the road back towards the academy and the nearest Pokemon Center.

With the boy gone Fela would walk up to Tristen, a restored Scatterbug in her arms cooing at Tristen. Realizing he might have questions Fela got straight to the answer. "I carry plenty of healing items with me. Only had one Revive though so if they get knocked out again that's it, back to the Pokemon Center. Here, for Wimpod." She said, handing Tristen a Super Potion with her free hand. "So, what Pokemon shall we bully next?" She asked with a laugh.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 05, 2024 7:02 pm
Tristen stared in confusion seeing the low point of the trainer suddenly turn around and he was full of energy and motivated to actually legitimately defeat an opponent instead of cheap shots. He was left staring in confusion as he left, standing back up once he decided to run off on his merry way, more than likely to a Pokémon Center. “…that was weird.” Tristen couldn’t help but to say out loud, rubbing the back of his head in confusion. Were kids actually like this? Was he like that? Not that he could recall.

He looked back at Fela, offering the Super Potion. Wimpod wasn’t really all that hurt, but probably wouldn’t hurt to use. He’d sit Wimpod back down on the ground to tend to his Pokémon. “Sorry again about Scatterbug. I really wanted Scatterbug to stay up for the battle. But there was just too much going against us with what we had.”

“Wiii-paa.” Wimpod spoke up as the medication was getting applied around and on his back.

“Hmm? Its not your fault, Wimpod…” As soon as he was done with the potion, he picked up Wimpod again and held him up for him to see Scatterbug. “…Scatterbug is good.”

“Wimmmpaaa.”

“Anyways, lets see if we can’t find something else more for Scatterbug’s speed…” he said. Tristen would make his way off down the path, hoping that he didn’t have any more upstarts trying to get a cheap win in just as that kid did before. As he went along, he started to notice something. The trees…there were blotches of various color. Purples and greens, reds and blues, it looked as if a Smeargle had its way with a tree. Though at least with Smeargle, at least it would try to put some effort in its work. Unless it was feeling malicious at least. “…uh…what is up with this tree? You have Smeargle here in this region?” Tristen asked in confusion.

"Hm? What tree...oh! That!" Fela said, walking up to the tree in mention and resting a hand against it. "I'm not sure what a Smeargle is but this tree has been marked by a Shroodle or its evolved form Grafaiai. They are Poison and Normal types that produce a poisonous paint-like substance with their saliva and the berries they eat. Once it dries the poison becomes inert and harmless, essentially just paint. The species line is very famous here in Paldea, in fact there is an entire forest-"

"Shroo!" Cried a small black faced creature with enormous green eyes as it dropped down from the tree, landing next to Fela and hissing at her.

"Ack! That's right the tree either mark their nests or territory!" Fela said as she ran backwards away from the angry Shroodle, Scatterbug leaping out of her arms and prepared to fight the wild Pokemon and defend the girl. "You up for this, Scatterbug? Okay then, use String Shot!" The girl commanded, going for the old reliable starting move of handicapping the foe.

With a cry Scatterbug would unleash a spray of silken string, covering the Shroodle in the sticky String Shot and reducing its ability to move. "Ready for another bug based tag teaming, Tristen?" She asked the hybrid.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:55 pm
“Shroodle?” Well, wrong Pokémon…and funnier still, she didn’t know what a Smeargle was. Well, probably safe to assume they’re not in this region. Though what was a Shroodle? Was it like a Smeargle? There was that mistaken identity like that Toedscruel and a Tentacruel when the team arrived in the team…he only wondered if there was some sort of derivative like that. He would quickly get his answer soon after Fela’s explanation, seeing the Pokémon come out of hiding and go on the attack. It was…nothing like he thought it was. In some way, it looked like a gigantic head with buck teeth.

“Wimpod, get ready. Let’s try to help Scatterbug some more.” He sat the Wimpod back on the ground. Despite the victory earlier, it was more than content to not have to battle anymore. Unfortunately to him, he was once again drafted to help Scatterbug.

So this thing was a Poison type? Once again, Tristen started to feel somewhat of the weight of Wimpod not having that diverse of a move set that could help each other out. At this point, Tristen would just need to get Wimpod to brute force his way through, just as he did with the Azurill earlier. He also needed to try to make sure that Scatterbug actually manages to stay up in the fight. “Wimpod, try Sand Attack!” he then called out. The Wimpod rushed forward then started to kick up all manner of dust and debris off out of the ground, flinging it towards the Shroodle’s way. If he could keep Scatterbug covered enough, maybe they can get out of this battle without a hitch.

The Shroodle, covered in String Shot, would next take a face full of Sand Attack, its huge eyes easy targets as dirt was flung into them causing the Shroodle to recoil with a bark and flail around as it tried to get the dirt out of its eyes with its tiny paws. With anger and fear swelling up the Shroodle lashed out and pounced on the nearest Pokemon, Wimpod. While its aim was true on the pounce its Fury Swipes was wild and erratic as its vision was impaired, the little Poison type attempting to claw away at the bug that just tried to blind it.

"Wimpod!" Fela called out, Scatterbug looking to its friend with concern then at Fela for orders but alas the girl had none. "What do I do?" She asked Tristen, her inexperience showing again as she watched the Shroodle really go in on Wimpod.
