((Older Jump looks like younger Jump, ‘cept older. He definitely has a stray wrinkle, but he’d never admit it.))

“Even if you weren’t caked in mud, those clothes wouldn’t do. It’s formal attire. And no, they won’t just give you a tux.” Yana twitched her nose. “I’m throwing you a bone, here. If you want it, you’ll have to do some work. It’s a two way streak.”

She produced a business card out of her pocket and handed it to Wayne. “That’s the hotel I’m staying at. At 7 o’clock, go to the front desk and ask for Yana. That’s assuming you show up, anyway-“

Oh s**t, something wanted to kill her real bad.

Yana twisted around, scanning the park quickly. No one else was there, except for a gothic looking girl and a Scizor. A Scizor that looked like it wanted to clamp off her head.

They were coming towards her and Wayne. Was it an assassination attempt? There was no where she could run where she could hide from such a nimble pokemon. And her own pokemon couldn’t aid in her transportation. It looked like standing her own ground was the only option.

Which is exactly what she did, staying silent and straightening up as Scizor and the girl came closer. She wouldn’t run away like the rest of them. If she did, she’d be lik everybody else.

****

Compe-what? Jump passed over the unfamiliar word in Zack’s sentence and checked his watch. “8 o’clock, so we’ve got plenty of time.”

The Interpol Agent stretched his arms over his head and yawned. “I’m gonna go find Wayne, tell him what’s up. Then I’ll call HQ, see what’s good. When I get that layout plan, I’ll find you. Sound good?”

****

Sachiko’s face froze as Luka got up to the counter. “Nothing is wrong with your pokemon, we’re just giving them a routine scan. They’ll be out in a minute,” the nurse behind the counter told Luka cheerfully as Sachiko fell to her knees.

“You won’t…you won’t….answer my survey?” Tears welled up in her eyes as her lips started to tremble. Until finally, she started bawling.

“WAAAAAH! WAAAAAAAAH!”

The nurse behind the counter winced. “I’m sorry, she’s brand new. I hate to ask, but do you think you can get her to stop doing that while I go get your pokemon? It might bother the other trainers.”

Before Luka could even respond, the nurse ran to the back to retrieve his pokemon, leaving him in the lobby with a sobbing Sachiko.

Wayne picked up Yana's card with a frown. "So what you're saying is, you're really not up for it but here's the hotel room just in case? Sweet, I guess. I hope you don't have anything, y'kn-- Helena! And err, oh. Hello, Scizor."

The trainer bowed slightly. You didn't need to be able to sense murderous intent to know not to ******** with that bug.

"What are you doing out here?" he eyed the girl's pale complexion and snapped his fingers, "Aha! Workin' on your tan! Hey, Yana, this is Helena. She's sort of like my family, and a pop starlet. And that's Scizor, he's pretty cool, just don't get on his bad side." He jabbed a thumb in Yana's direction, "This is Yana, I think. That's your name, right? Anyway, she just hit on me and asked me to her hotel room but otherwise she's pretty classy. Say hi."

Oh wait.

"Actually, Helena's mute. She can't speak, like, at all. I think. She can sing though."

---

"I'll be in town getting measured up. Don't blow this one, Jump, I get a bad feeling about these guys. Bad like Galactic. Keep your wits about you."

Helena's head moved, like some creepy doll from a movie. Her eyes settled on Yana, and her head produced the subtlest of motions. A nod. A tiny movement of her head downward and then upward. If one could pick up such a tiny action.

And then she stared and produced no other action. Still like a doll.

Scizor was interested in something else. He watched Wayne's Pokemon, sizing them up with his eyes. Who was the strongest of the group? The weakest? Then he stepped passed the trainers, to overlook the Pokemon. His intent shifted, he didn't mean to kill them, but now Yana was the only one that could feel it. Like a dare that she step out of line while his back was turned. Like she do something that she wasn't supposed to - which would've been breathing if Scizor hadn't been under specific orders.

***

Meanwhile...

"I need you to shadow Wayne," Kero spoke to his Pokemon. He'd made sure to be out of the house where Zack's family couldn't understand him. Where was that? Driving through town on his motorcycle, of course.

If Zack was going to get himself murdered, whatever. The boy could handle himself. His family? A completely different issue. Still, he couldn't risk shadowing Elizabeth if Zack was going to be around her. But Wayne? He was out on an adventure.

There was just a problem with that, if Wayne got into contact with his family there was a chance he'd be found out. And so...

"I'll need you to follow him through one of his friends. Make sure first that they're traveling together."

With a nod the Flareon jumped off of the lowrider and onto the roof of another car before hopping off against and disappearing into the hustle and bustle of Castelia City.

Jump gave Zack a thumbs up. "Don't worry about me, Zack. You just worry about not ruining your tux."

And then he was gone, taking one giant vertical bound at speeds rendering him unseeable.

****

So Wayne knew these people? Yana didn't recognize Helena. She assumed that if she heard her sing, it would be a different story. The idea of a singing mute was absurd, though.

Then again, so was a Scizor clearing out a park with killing intent alone. And so was Wayne's apparent lack of skill when it came to talking to women. The whole thing was growing more absurd. Which was bad for her.

Yana gave Henrietta and Scizor a meek wave, then cleared her throat. "Well. This has become sufficiently awkward. I think I'll be on my way." She turned to Wayne. "The banquet's at 8, so remember to be at the hotel at 7 o'clock. If you're still interested-"

Normal people had to follow the concept that it took time to get from one place to another. Jump did also, but he shortened it so significantly that it was like cheating.

Case and point: Only a minute after talking with Zack, he landed from the skies in Castelia's park. The ground shook momentarily with his landing, but remained otherwise unscatched. The Interpol Agent stood up, straightening his tie. Then he spotted his mark.

"Oi, is that Wayne Lee I see over there?" He grinned as he ran up to his friend's son. "Dude! I knew I'd find you here! How long has it been, man?" Jump asked enthusiastically as he went for a bro hug.

The arrival of Jump caused Yana to freeze. She gulped. He was one of the three obstacles from Reid's presentation. Avoid them at all costs.

If she lingered too long, she'd be done for.

"Jump!" Wayne yelled, bro hug returned and slapping the older guy on the back, "No way! What are you doing here?!"

Wayne drew back with a grin, "Oh man, it's been ages! Hey, you know Helena, right? That's Yana (I think she likes me). You seen my new pokémon? I got a Hitmonlee. He literally kicks peoples asses!"

He slapped a hand to his forehead and drew it back through his hair. "Somethin' tells me you're here for a reason..."

Meanwhile, Petilil and Solosis stopped practising as Scizor drew near. Hitmonlee stood up from his meditation, not showing the slightest hint of fear. An act or not; appearing intimidated was the first step towards defeat.

The psychic and grass types huddled close together and Hitmonlee folded his arms, acting as a kind of bodyguard.

[You look lost. Need a hand?] he shot over to the steely bug.

Helena turned her head to look at Jump. His arrival didn't appear to bring any emotion out in her.

And suddenly there was a noise. Like a yell, approaching fast. Helena turned quickly, as if suddenly startled.

"Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut!"

And there went Wynaut, running by. Helena gave chase, a convenient way to let the trio talk while she chased around the Wynaut with her doll like expression.

Scizor appeared to have found the strongest one. Or, at least the one with the biggest balls. [Show me your strongest kick.] He was curious about the power of the Pokemon that stood up to him.

Hitmonlee closed his eyes. If he had a mouth he'd be smirking.

[I can't do that. Not in a populated area.] He stared Scizor down, angry this time. [And don't ever assume you can tell me what to do.]
PostPosted: Tue Feb 28, 2012 1:46 pm

Scizor stared at Hitmonlee. [Right, I forgot that humans are important.] He searched the practically empty park. Populated, huh? Someone sounded reluctant.

After that, Scizor went quiet. Merely looking over the three Pokemon.

Luka was left dumbfounded. Partially because the woman who had shoved her boobs in his face was crying really over dramatically and since when did Pokémon Centres do routine scans on Pokémon. He had never come across either incident before and he was puzzled.

He walked over to the woman who had shoved her boobs in his face. "What's your survey about? I'll answer it if you just stop crying, but, I only have until the other nurse brings me back my Pokémon." Bells were ringing in Luka's mind but he wasn't quite sure why at present. It was probably something to do with his Pokémon's lengthy absense.

Immediately after Luka agreed to do the survey, Sachiko sat up straight and was somehow holding a microphone and a recorder. Her behavior had shifted entirely as well, from bawling to professional.

"If you were attacked by another person, would you use pokemon to defend yourself?" she said into the microphone, reading off of the sheet on her clipboard. She then tilted the mic towards Luka so he could respond

Jump turned around to greet Helena. "Hey Helena, almost didn't see you...there..."

The mute girl had already begun to chase after Wynaut around the park. Jump scratched his head. Boy, was that girl creepy sometimes. "Okay." He turned around again. "Yana, huh? Nice to meet...you..."

In the sudden confusion that had come with his arrival, Yana had slipped away out of the park. Jump sighed and turned back to Wayne. "Sorry about that, dude. My presence can be overwhelming to the ladies at times. I hope you got her number, at least."

He disappeared with a burst of his super speed, gone in an instant and now standing next to Scizor, rubbing his chin while eyeing Hitmonlee. "Y'know, I've always wanted to spar with a Hitmonlee. See who's kicks are really the best. I've heard they're tough, buuuuut I'm probably tougher."

Jump grinned and nudged Scizor with his elbow, giving the mantis pokemon a wink. "Hey guy, someday he might be able to give you a run for your money. Unless you show him what's what. Lighten up though, you'll always be a champ to me."

Once again, Jump did a flash step and reappeared next to Wayne, patting the younger trainer on the back. "So yeah, I actually did come here for a reason."

His grin faded away to barely a smirk and he became mostly straight faced. For Jump, anyway. "A little birdie told me you were fighting against Team Plasma in the Pinwheel Forest. And by birdie, I mean Hexum, my Lucario. You know. The pokemon that talks?"

((I'm not. In fact, I have a small text wall))

When Wukong finally located the rooftop that Liuye Dao had been training on, the Pawniard was lying face first on the ground. He coul barely move. He had run out of Pansage leaves over a half an hour ago, and had tried mastering nervous system control without them. Liuye had run himself into the ground.

Wukong flipped off of a double jump and landed onto the rooftop. [Oi, geddup,] he grunted to Liuye as he helped the Pawniard to his feet. [We’ve got trouble. Sal says Salem went missing.]

Liuye perked his head up as he stood up straight despite the soreness he felt all over his body. [She evolved into an Espeon and instinctively linked up with Sal, or something like that. Then she got scared and ran off. You’re immune to Psychic types, yeah?]

Liuye nodded. [Good. I don’t know if she’s out of control or not, but if she is I’m using you as a shield.]

Before Liuye Dao could give him a glare of protest, Wukong was running off to the edge of the roof. He leaped and thrust his legs downwards, propelling himself through the air to the next rooftop with a jet of fire from his feet. [Come on, hurry up!]

****

“Pa-pan!” Chen Zhen yelped, waving goodbye from floating atop his Air Balloon to the Dancer and Pansage that were leaving the urban ruins. The two ducked into the abandoned subway station that served as the entrance, leaving Chen Zhen alone in the enclosed lot.

The Dancer had helped Chen Zhen learn the Acrobatics attack. It actually helped the trainer teach his own Pansage, so he didn’t mind. Chen Zhen popped his Air Balloon, flipping through the air on his way to the ground. He did multiple somersaults before landing on his feet in a way that would make an Olympic gymnast jealous.

“Yaaaaa-pa!”

How long had he been at the lot for? Chen Zhen wished he had a watch, but he didn’t think it was more than two hours. Maybe he should go and meet Salieri and the others in the park. The Pansage considered the option as he wandered around the ruins, flipping over toppled columns of concrete with his newfound skill.

Until he heard a rustling in the grass.

He paused. Chen Zhen had thought he was alone. But there was definitely some motion going on in a small patch of tall grass. The monkey looked down on it from a hill of rubble.

There was a lavender pokemon curled up in it, and by the way she heaved Chen Zhen could tell she was crying. The monkey dropped down from the hill and began to walk over.

[Are you okay?]

Salem perked up her head and got onto all fours, startled. The two of them froze in place. She was horrified by his lack of a response. Did he think she was a monster too? Would he even recognize her?

Chen Zhen tilted his head to the side, his mouth hanging open in slight awe. [Salem?] He started walking towards her.

She shifted slightly, ready to run. But she found that she couldn’t move as he didn’t stop his stride, closing in until they were a short distance apart. Salem sniffled, a few stray tears still in the corners of her eyes.

[Don’t come any closer!] she screamed, sending up a wave of telekinetic energy. The Telekinesis threw up random pieces of rubble, flinging them around the lot. The leaves and Chen Zhen’s head blew in the artificial wind, but he did not flinch.

The Espeon bowed her head down when she saw what she did. Bits of rubble still hung in the air, like they were suspended by wires. […all I am is a monster, now…]

Chen Zhen looked almost taken aback by what she said. He still held his awed expression. Slowly, he reached out to touch the side of her face. Just to make sure what he saw was real.

[Take back the things you just said. You’re beautiful.]

Salem’s jaw dropped as she looked up, her eyes meeting Chen Zhen’s. His hand lingered cautiously at the side of her face until he reached to touch the red jewel on her forehead.

They became Synchronized.

A split second was all it took for them to share their feelings. Chen Zhen took his hand off of Salem and clutched his heart, blushing profusely. He had been outed by her psychic powers. Now she would know how he really felt.

[I…uh…]
[Chen Zhen…I had no idea….]

The bottom of Salem’s lip trembled as she stumbled forward, nuzzling her face against Chen Zhen’s chest. The monkey was in shock as Salem cried against him. All he felt like he could do was cling her tightly and tell her she’d be okay.

The rubble that had been suspended in the air fell to the ground slowly, like snow.

They sat in the lot like that for a while. To Chen Zhen, it felt like forever.

And then a certain Battle Girl entered the lot, panting as she searched for Salem. Finally, Salieri spotted her with Chen Zhen, tucked in the Pansage’s caring embrace. “Salem!”

The sound of Salieri’s voice startled the Espeon, who jumped up in shock. Salieri froze in place, noting the glare Chen Zhen was giving her. She had never seen the Pansage get so angry with her before. She took a step forward, and Salem took a step back. It was like they had never even known each other.

“Salem, I’ve been looking all over for you,” she said softly as she lowered herself onto one knee slowly, like she was dealing with a wild animal. “I never meant to hurt you, I was just…surprised. I know….”

She took in a deep breath. “I know I have a lot to work on. This is just another one of those things. I don’t care what kind of pokemon you are. You’re still my Salem.”

Slowly, she reached out to pet Salem on the head. Just as she was about to make contact, the Espeon stepped backwards and looked away.

A jolt of pain coursed through Salieri’s chest as she recoiled her hand. She looked to Chen Zhen for help, but her first pokemon still looked at her like she was an enemy. The Battle Girl tried to swallow the lump in her throat. “Salem…please…”

The silence that followed was the answer she was scared of getting.

Salieri furrowed her brow and stood up, taking out two pokeballs. Wordlessly, she returned Chen Zhen and Salem. Now she was alone in the lot.

The Battle Girl slumped down to the ground against a slab of concrete.

“…hey Moze, do you remember what you told me about that piece of paper?”
“ ‘You mean that you can’t take back the damage you’ve done to a person’s feelings, See-Sal?’ “
“Yeah. Is there really nothing you can do?”

Salieri tucked her knees up to her chest and hugged her legs. “Because I hurt one of my friends. Real bad.”
“ ‘Did you try to apologize, See-Sal?’ “
“Yeah. But she’s still hurt. What do I do now, Moze?”

She sniffled and buried her face into her hands. Her back moved up and down with each sob. No one would ever see her cry. Salieri Del Forrest didn't cry.

“What do I do now?”

After a few minutes Fleya slowly made her way out of the alleyway she had been hiding in for so long and soon moved over towards the street again moving with the crowds she tried blending in. "Man what was with that guy? it felt like he was going to just crush me like I was nothing." She shuddered a little as her thoughts raced on the idea of that guy being inside her head showing her images and talking to her as if he was right next to her ear the feeling was disturbing but remembering it just made her feel really uneasy and sick at the same time.

Kijin finally let the old lady in the park and continued on his way through the city looking for the gym that was in this city,"Hmm they said it was supposed to be a tall building and if you looked inside there were supposed to be nothing but trees inside." He says to himself remembering what one of the residents told him about the gym. "That is oh so helpful well might as well start looking." Kijin soon starts to wander the streets going from tall building to tall building looking for this gym.

Luka looked at the woman in shock. Nobody turned their attitude around that quickly in such a situation if the crying wasn't an act. He really didn't trust this woman at all. And the way she just started the survey in an instant. Definitely fishy. "Aren't you going to tell me the terms and conditions? Or what the survey in general is about? Or why you want to do the survey? I kinda want to know what I'm letting myself in for rather than you just fire off a question. And one like that is a really horrible question because it depends completely upon the situation, what type of Pokémon you have and your disposition at that moment in time."

He wanted this to be over soon, but, he just couldn't stand there and answer questions like that without first understanding why such things were necessary. Things were getting shiftier and shiftier and Luka did not like it one bit.
