A nudge, and another, then another. The Munna who had slept by Avan pushed it's head/body against the sleeping boy. "Mmphm...I don't wanna wake up!" Avan, roused from his slumber, yelled at Baku. The boy buried his head back in the blankets and pillows, which were all over the place. He was a messy sleeper sometimes. Baku pushed harder against the boy, this time taking a ramming start. "Gah!" Avan's hands immediately went to his side and held it. "Damn it Baku...I WANT to sleep a longer." His head turned and glared at the Munna. "So stop it." The ferocity in Avan's voice was almost enough to phase the psychic Pokemon if it wasn't for Avan's ridiculous morning appearance. He was a mess; and not even a hot mess. His hair was all over the place, curling here, sticking up there. He slept in over-sized clothes; a large, gray shirt and pair of large, black basketball shorts. Suffice to say, he looked a bit ridiculous.
[Get up! Gym!] Baku retorted. Avan's faced dropped it's look and took on a blank one.
"Oh yeah..." Avan rubbed his eyes and yawned, "Forgot..." He tossed back the covers. It wasn't like he wanted to get up just because of that, but the gym leader, wait what was his name again? Avan sighed. Doesn't anyone ever give their name?
Oh well, it didn't matter. He was sure he'd find out this morning when he went to the gym. A dumb smile came to his face. I wonder what he wants with me? I better look good.
*
Shower, straightening hair, and everything else he had to do in the morning got done within a timely fashion and Avan was out of the Pokemon Center.
Now...which way was the gym?
*
After asking direction, multiple times, he finally reached it. "So I'm here..." Avan knocked on the gym's door, not knowing if he could just walk right in.

Cress woke up looking much more stunning then Avan could ever hope. He sat up with a yawn, looked over at his wonderful wife, kissed her and went about getting ready.
And soon he was on his way to the gym. This was, of course, two hours before Avan's arrival. After all, he had to make sure the place was ready before they could open.
And soon it was just that and Cress was unlocking the doors when Avan knocked. He opened them and bowed.
"Welcome to the Striaton city gym, table for-
He lifted his head up and looked at Avan and smiled softly. "Ah, my guest. Please, come in," he stepped aside and gestured with his arm.

His guest? Avan's cheeks turned a bit red. "Th-Thank you." The boy walked past the gym leader into the gym. He was taken by it. Tables everywhere. Was it also a restaurant? Avan didn't know, but it was so nice inside, he wondered how it could even be a gym in the first place.
"I hope I'm not late..." Avan spoke.

"That would depend on you," Cress said as he closed the door behind them. He then stepped passed Avan and headed toward the arena at the back of the gym. "So, from beginning to end, would you please tell me what happened last night?"

Avan followed the Gym Leader and as he did he obliged his request for Avan to re-tell the events that happened.
He started with Kali's Astonish on the two. Avan admitted to having no clue as to why the attack happened. But also stated that Kali had a bad habit of doing that to people. Little did Avan know however, was that it was out of jealousy.
Next he stated that the Litwick started to defend the girl and Kali retaliated to him, that was the first Night Shade he believed. Then the events that followed. The multiple explosions from the smog, the second Night Shade, and the boy who had intervened; up to when Cress arrived on the scene.
Avan then told Cress that he had failed to retrieve the other boy's name. He was quite rude about it too, Avan added.

Cress listened to the entire thing and, finally, he said, "your Pokemon does not respect you."
It wasn't far from the truth. Kali was jealous, but one could argue that she acted out of line because she didn't respect Avan enough. If she did, she'd respect him enough to keep her calm. Instead, she'd instigated a battle that had badly hurt a person.
"Pokemon that do not obey us aren't our Pokemon to keep," Cress went on to explain, "with these types of Pokemon there exist a number of solutions."
He held up a hand, fingers curled. His index finger rose.
"One, you can release the Pokemon."
Middle finger rose.
"Two, you can try to earn their respect through building long lasting bonds of friendship. Or,"
Ring finger rose, showing off the gold ring.
"You can obtain a gym badge. I will advise that you take one of the three options I have listed before you leave Striaton. If it is as you said and this isn't the first time that Kali has behaved this way, then you must understand that if you cannot achieve one of these three goals you will only be putting more people at risk."
And eventually, someone will die. But Cress didn't say that last part, his expression said it for him.

Doesn't...respect me? Cress' words stabbed Avan. He hadn't thought about that. And just what did he mean not his to keep? Avan didn't keep Kali. She joined him herself. But then again, Cress didn't know their past. All that mattered was now. It was true he'd have to get Kali under control, or at least get her to respect him a bit more, so she wouldn't fly off the handle like that.
Avan failed to notice the gold ring that adorned Cress' finger. His mind was elsewhere. Putting more people at risk was not something he wanted to. Avan was in-general nice guy, and hurting others was too troublesome to deal with. Look at the situation he had gotten himself into now.
The first option was a no go. He tried to get Kali to stop following him once and failed. The second? Well, they were already friends and have been traveling together for a bit now; but these things took time. Building bonds.
As for the third option; well, as bothersome as it sounded, Avan had to admit, at least to himself, that collecting badges was something he secretly wanted to do. Though, he'd still refuse to call himself a trainer.
His eyes downcast. Was it shame? Embarrassment? Failure? Avan started to speak. "That last option..." He paused. "I'd be battling you?"

((Geez, you were right, that is a short post >< ))
"Well..." The decision was harder than Avan thought it'd be. He only had two viable Pokemon. There was Baku, who seemed like the most logical choice. He was the strongest of the two and he had access to a variety of attacks. Then there was Kali; honestly Avan seemed most comfortable with this choice and he knew her moves already, but after the events of the previous night, he wondered if that was a wise choice. She had been healed already and was in condition to fight, but Avan wasn't sure if she was mentally.
"I think I'll go with..." He pulled a Pokeball from his bag. "Kali." Avan removed his bangs from his eye and showed Cress the ball; if he was going to win, he wanted to do it with this Pokemon.

"Don't be scared," he said as the grass type quivered, "You can do it!"
The foe's barking intensified as it rushed forwards timid Petilil. To her the opponent was monstrous, intimidating, with massive snarling fangs backed with incredible power. She didn't see a yapping little puppy, she saw Cerberus guarding the gates of hell.
Defense Mechanism: when Lillipup got in close for a Tackle attack, Petilil's leaves parted slightly and allowed her to release a cloud of Sleep Powder.
"No! Too soon!" Wayne yelled and Lillipup darted around the powder spray, colliding harshly with the little grass type and knocking her back several feet. Lillipup backed off as Petilil got up and shook herself off. It was like they were taking turns.
"You alright, Petilil?" Wayne asked and his grass type gave him a nod. The trainer let off a confident grin and set his eyes back on the opponent, "Okay, Synthesis."
Her leaves spread wide, Petilil began to absorb sunlight energy. Circulating it around her body, she used it to regenerate and heal the damage Lillipup had inflicted.
"Just stay calm," Wayne said reassuringly, as Lillipup bounded to its target, "Let it come to you. Deep breaths."
Hitmonlee not listening to him was too much of an issue right now. Wayne had once heard that disobedient pokémon responded to trainers who'd proved themselves by defeating gym leaders. In Wayne's mind this meant that he'd have to defeat the Striaton Gym with a pokémon that wasn't Hitmonlee. Petilil fit the bill.
This time she remained calm. She had her trainer beside her, voicing tranquility. You couldn't afford to panic in a battle; nothing good ever came of it, or so he'd said. He'd told her this in spite of knowing how she was, how she was practically scared of her own shadow. That meant Wayne had faith in her, didn't it?
Lillipup got a face full of Sleep Powder and Petilil bobbed out of the way as its legs stopped working and the puppy pokémon flailed into a heap. Its rear stuck in the air for a second before it slumped to the ground, the pokémon snoring peacefully.
"Alright, you did it!" Wayne grinned and Petilil's face lit up. Her expression fell from happy to distraught when she spied Wayne running over to Lillipup and shaking it awake. What was he thinking?! That was a wild pokémon!
Lillipup look equally confused, though groggy, as it peered up at him with tired eyes. The trainer said happily, "Thanks for the battle, dude."
The puppy climbed to its feet, looked from trainer to pokémon, yapped and scurried off into the tall grass. Wayne stood up, scratching his head, "At least I think it was a dude. Huh. Never have seen a pokéwang before, come to think of it."
He grinned at Petilil, who was watching the grass carefully for any more wild pokémon. Wayne said, "You did really well. Just remember it won't be so easy in a gym match. They're bound to have some kind of counter prepared, so try not to get flustered." Petilil frowned, looking sort of downtrodden. Wayne put his hand to his forehead and said, "I don't mean it was pointless to learn! Come on, any new skills have to be good, right? We'll keep going until it becomes second nature, okay?"
Petilil nodded and Wayne grinned. A pokémon listening to him was a definite confidence boost. Maybe that was all he'd need to beat the gym. Confidence.
And strong pokémon.

Kijin sits up quickly not even caring about the pain in his chest at the moment as he looked down at her with a glare mixed with his own pain and his anger,"Are you insane? In denial or just plain stupid?" He growls to her he lightly walks towards her belt where her pokeballs are not touching them but looking at them.
"Do you have any idea of what your pokemon had done to not only you but everyone else including his intent?" He says his hands placed on his hips for the moment as he looks at her. "Your pokemon blatantly disregarded you as a trainer and as a living thing. And you can't tell me it was just one thing when I first came onto your battle those two pokemon were already mid battle and both of you were already hurt and on the ground." He coughs harshly covering his mouth with his hand feeling something wet he sees some red spots in his hand but he soon put his hand down then looks back at her.
"Your pokemon is out of control and seeing how you act you can't handle him as you are now, not only that bu-" He stops with his sentence wanting to tell her about the people mysteriously perishing in one night but he had nothing to really point his finger towards her pokemon so for now he wasn't going to say anything about it. "For now I would give you two options that you can do one being that you release that pokemon or have someone train you in order to give you some back bone." He says with a heavy breathing as he stood at the end of her bed looking at her with a softened look then what he had when he started on his rant.

“And the flip, Chen Zhen! The flip at the end was the best part!”
Salieri had passed out from the sheer beauty of the Striaton siblings, Chili and Cilan, after she had won her gym battle the night before. So this morning was the time for celebration. As she got dressed in her room in the pokemon center, Sal recounted the tale to all three of her pokemon. Chen Zhen nodded proudly at his accomplishments, sitting on her bed looking like he was failing to hide his pride.
“The Trio Badge is the first, so that makes seven more,” Sal noted as she finished buttoning her red sleeveless kung fu shirt, the bottom stopping before her midriff. The Battle Girl turned to face the mirror in order to do her hair.
Her Eevee, Salem, was curled up on the pillow in a catlike position of comfort and laziness. She opened one of her closed eyes halfway. [Seven more? This doesn’t look so hard,] she yawned before closing her eyes again.
Liuye Dao stood looking out the window, his back to the rest of the party in silence. Striaton City was beginning to bustle to life, and the streets were slowly becoming more crowded. The Pawniard tilted his head over to see Salieri, satisfied to know that she was done getting ready. Salieri was a morning person.
“Ready for action?” she asked her team with a bright smile as she stretched her arms up above her head. Liuye turned to face his master and nodded. Salem stretched her legs and then stood up on all fours.
“Vee~!” she exclaimed happily with a big smile. Chen Zhen stood up as well, giving Salieri a grin and a thumbs up.
And so the rookie team went downstairs. After Sal picked up some supplies at the pokemart, she and her pokemon exited the building and walked outside. The sun shone brightly. It was a beautiful day, only making the team peppier than they were before.
“We won’t be coming back here for a while, so we should take some of the day to explore,” she suggested, and she began to walk down the street. Chen Zhen looked over to Liuye as he followed Sal, resting his hands on the back of his head.
[Hey, I’m sure you’ll get to battle the next gym leader dude,] Chen Zhen told him with a grin. Liuye briefly looked over, then shrugged indifferently at the remark. Salem rose an eyebrow.
[You’re not much of a talker, are you Liuye?] she prodded. Once again, Liuye just shrugged his shoulders. [Why not?] [I’ve never heard him talk before, ever,] Chen Zhen chimed in. [Some pokemon are just quiet. But that’s what makes Liuye so cool.] Liuye looked to Chen Zhen and nodded in response. The two of them had an understanding with each other that made Salem let out a catlike smile.
[Looks like you two have a budding bromance,] the Eevee playfully teased. Liuye looked down at the ground as he walked, a sweatdrop forming over the back of his head.
Chen Zhen looked over to Salem, and his cheeks turned a subtle shade pinker. Her smile was so cute. The new spring flowers on the sidewalk behind her seemed to bloom even more now. The Pansage tilted his head up at the sky with a heavy sigh. Okay, I beat Chili’s Pansear! If I can do that, then I can talk to her! Here it goes! Chen Zhen looked over across Liuye to Salem. [Sale-]
With an audible “OOF!”, the Pansage walked into Salieri’s leg, falling onto his back right after. Chen Zhen got up quickly, whistling as if nothing happened while checking to see why Sal had stopped.
The Battle Girl had her amber eyes trained on the sign above the school building in front of her. “Trainer Academy? I bet we could get some knowledge here. Let’s check it out.”

"Stop it, stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it stop it."
It was too quiet for Kijin to hear over his angered talking and Henrieta's head was down so she didn't see the blood.
After a long pause she said, "h-his Pokemon h-hit me. Without p-pr-provocation. It did it t-twice. Melty was protecting m-me. He felt my l-life was in danger."
She wasn't wrong. The Litwick hadn't meant to put Henrietta in the blast radius, and he'd only gotten progressively vicious as Kali continued to hurt Henrietta.
"That o-other trainer.. He cared the f-first time, but not so much the s-second," she said.
The judge who did nothing until it was too late. The judge who intimidated her before was now calling her stupid or insane or in denial. Was yelling at her. She didn't want to be here, but most people didn't want to be where they were when they were getting scolded.
He hadn't been there, he hadn't been there the whole terrible day. It wasn't one thing, it was a whole series of events that lead up to that. Henrietta wasn't fit to command Melty, but not on a general level, by then she'd been hit so much that the Pokemon had likely determined that she couldn't and that she would just be put into my danger.
Why was this man here, anyways? Had he scolded the other boy for getting Henrietta hurt? Was he going to apologize for putting his Steelix in front of a diving girl? Was he just here to scold her?
Henrietta's head was all over the place. She couldn't settle it on what thing and her eyes began to wander the blanket, like a maze.
"I-i'll b-be f-fine w-without t-t-training w-with s-someone," she said. She didn't mean without training in general, but training to have a backbone? She'd been humiliated enough trying that with Chili.

Kijin would pant lightly and looks at her, his head was getting a bit hotter. Agian he looked at her and saw her looking like a sad puppy who just got slapped on the nose for peeing on the floor, he would stop there and then moves over towards her sitting on the bed with her not getting too close to her but within arms reach. "Look I know....I didn't get all the details about..how this started....but I guess me overacting and not doing too much during the fight doesn't really give me any credit." He reached over towards her and pets her head lightly trying to act nice.
"Not going to lie though I was a little scared that you and the other guy were hurt I might have gone over the edge a bit." He smiles lightly looking at her since he knew she was defiantly scared of him as well as maybe overwhelmed by his words. "Though i'm not exactly always nice I am glade your better though."
