I personally support the ban. There are far too many deviations that aren't halfway decent.... let alone artistic. A picture of some random girl flashing her crotch is not art. It's not even good enough to be porn.

But I personally think that DA should have an entirely different section for artistic n***s cause I'm sick of all these freaks showing cunts or erect penises and calling it art.

While I don't think it's right for minors to not even be able to see their own deviations, I also don't think they should be able to see others' mature content. Or at least the more severe of the two. Now that DA has two levels of mature content I don't see why minors can't see minor mature content.

simple da is international and can't handle the multicultural* values so they tigh the censure to not be sue, but if you think it's unfair create your madure account and voila problem solved.

* some place 12 years is ok to see breast in other place can be only with 16.
but the intersthing that so more easy censure picture over writing~~

I don't really care ... From a point of view it's a good thing cause it respects the will of the artist ... From an other it's annoying to see that some artist activate the mature filter on pieces of art with mild nudity, a sexy outfit or just fantasy violence ...

I've seen some photographs that are pretty close to pornography. I was curious and read DA rules on porn. Playboy wouldn't be considered porn by DA's standards. I don't have a problem with it, but I'd hate to think how many underage boys would create Deviant accounts to look at the free sexualy explicet nudy pics. xp

Since I created my new dA account, I decided -not- to lie about my age (I'm 14, fyi).

    I kind of regret it.

I mean, yeah, there are people my age and younger on dA. I joined when I was like, twelve. Still, there are the people (like mee~) who can HANDLE looking at (tasteful) n***s and the like, and who can handle drawing such (I have before for anatomy practice). The thing is, dA needs to clear up what is considered NUDE and what is considered PORNOGRAPHIC. ._. I mean, half of that website needs to see the movie Calendar Girls and get it through their heads that -some people- just don't wanna see some girl with big boobs laying there naked because the photographer thinks its art. ._.

I do like the two levels of maturity thing, though. At least I can view some stuff from the people I watch when they submit nude stuff (they hardly ever flag it on the severe level). Then again, we have to remember that the maturity settings aren't ONLY there for nudity, but for gore and things that oppose ideals, et cetera. :3

Well, that's only if it's a strict mature content - where it usually contains genitals and whatnot.
When it's just a mature content warning, you'd have to be sixteen.
It doesn't really bother me, since I don't publish anything all too explicit, so I merely need to put simple warnings on some of my work.
And since I'm sixteen, I can view my own work, too. :3

But yes, it did bug me a lot before.
I mean, when I first joined dA, you could decide to view or not to view mature content, no matter what age you were.
So even when I was UNDER sixteen, and I did mature content warnings, I could still see them.
Then it changed. And it sucked, because sometimes I liked looking at my older works. :/

But yeah. Now it doesn't bother me too much.

I mean I know it can be art but some content if you look is a little over the edge just putting a body part in a picture isn't always art but some people believe that the body is a work of art so I don't know

Hmm...I remember someone told me that there is no specific law against pornography..or something like that. I can't really remember exactly what it is but I do remember his explanation: one may view a nude picture as art; one may view it as something arousal. This issue will never end D: Buuut we're talking about DA here so IMO it doesn't really matter since all may not agree about it so..it may never be resolved :3 DA chose the best solution, I guess.

I don't really care as there are both a good and a bad about this argument.

Although I have to say, as of late, a lot of people seems to be taking advantage and simply posting images of n***s that in my own opinion, contains no artistic-ness to it whatsoever.

I support the restriction of viewing of "mature content" on DA. Yes the body can be a work of art or viewed as a work of art. And yes there are those in the world who exploit every loop hole they can find. So in order to keep DA from turning into a under age porn site I think it's a needed feature. It keeps the site legitimate in the public eye while not completely banning the art work to every one. Personally some restriction on a site instead of no site because they were sued and went bankrupt is some thing all users of DA can appreciate.

they can't even see their OWN deviation?? well that's lame. if they posted it.. then obviously they SEE it. lol. but... i guess they are trying to be 'sensitive'. really tho, if someone under 18 is veiwing different things... then it is up to their parents to correct that. in today's society, everyone is always too worried about how what they do might effect others... its stupid. we are losing our sense of expression because it might have a negative impact on some one else. you don't do things that you don't want to do... no one is standing there witha gun forcing people to look at "mature" images.

Um... do you have any idea how much trouble DA wold be in if some 13 year-old kid's mother walked into their room and saw a nude picture on their screen? They're required to censor this stuff.

What they might do is have mature catagories, so n***s fall under one section and gore and language another. Make the language and gore viewable to younger audiences, while keeping the nudity blocked.

Eh, it's not the age, it's the maturity level. Honestly, I wish there were some sort of "test" you had to take before joining the site. You should have to give honest and helpful critique to a piece of art to prove that A) you are an artist and B) you will be a helpful contribution to the community. My beef isn't with the age ban so much as how graphic some "nude" images are. dA has a fairly loose tolerance for what is considered pornography. As long as there isn't penetration or erections, or ... erm, "spreading". BUT... I've seen everything right on the verge; almost sex, almost masturbation, etc. AND IT'S TOLERATED! It doesn't matter what age the person is, they are going to be thinking one thing: SEX. There is tasteful nudity, but to me there is a big difference between a nude figure and a implied sexual image.

I agree- there is a lot of graphic material there that is nothing but a pic of genitals. There is a big difference between artistic nudity & crotch shots but it is difficult to put into clear-cut language for a rule. I wish they could clear out the crotch-shot stuff- that's what makes it look like a low class porn site.
