I typed: How was school today? Did you do your homework? Give me a hand with the dishes.

It Translated it: HOW WAS SKOOL 2DAY??!!??!?? OMG WTF DID U DO UR HOMAWORK??!??!! OMG WTF LOL GIEV MA A HAND WIT TEH DISHES!1!1!111!

Wow, that's actually very scarey to think that you have to possibly change the way you were taught just to relate to today's children. I do have to admit, this is fun to play with, thank you for posting it!!!!!

Harbone
See, I was hoping it would help me with some basic phrases, like:

It's time to go to bed now.

Have you finished your homework?

Don't climb on the furniture, you might break something.

It doesn't matter what name he called you, that still doesn't give you a right to behave in that manner.

It doesn't matter how much you love him, you're still not old enough to behave in that manner.

What did I tell you about climbing on the furniture?

Why aren't you in bed?

Didn't I ask you if you had any homework?

Well, you should have thought of that BEFORE you put it in the blender.

Please don't climb on the furniture.

All right! That's it! Everybody get in bed RIGHT NOW!

...Bevause I don't think they're hearing the same thing I'm saying.

Well lets see if we can translate some of these ourselves.

The first one you said, "It's time to go to bed now."
They heard, "It's my bedtime."(as in yours, not theirs)

The second one you said ,"Have you finished your homework?" Meaning, 'You need to finish your homework (first).'
They heard,"Have you finished your homework?" Meaning, "Have you finished your homework?" With an obvious answer of, "No." Then end of subject.

Next, "Don't climb on the furniture, you might break something."
They hear, "Don't climb on the furniture, if you think you might break something." lol

Anyone else have ideas?

I got to thinking about a translator to under stand them. Maybe we don't really want to? For example, here is a link to an RP
http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=11899901

This is from a guild I just found. A whole guild dedicated to poor text and grammer.

A quote from their home page:"iF UR SCARD OFF SPEKIN LIEK TIS,
TEHN GTFO CUZ WE DIDNT LERN 2 SPEL FKRS. GAT OVR IT."

For those of you who still want a translator, the guild's 'Introduce Yourself' thread comes complete with a
DICTIONARY FOR THE BAD SPELLING

*clicks link then tries to scratch out eyes to stop the pain* oh my days!!! what are they doing?!? And why do they need to translate some of those words?!? it just makes no sense... I think I can now say I am completely scarred for life!
@ Harbone either they are so scarred by bad language that they don't understand basic English, or like most youngsters have now tuned out adult voices unless its offering them money, lifts etc. Loved what you wanted to translate tho. Made me smile... Suppose I'll have all that to look forward to in the future lol

rofl I've seen my little sister and her friends chat and that's how they write.
"GTG" "LMBO" "TTYL".... I still don't understand...
I didn't even know what "ROLF" was until they told me.
"rolf, rolf, rolf"... sounds like a name or a dog's bark.
What ever happened to writting words out?
Arggh, it's like Rachel Ray's "EVOO"...

Yeah it can get kind of complicated. Playing world of warcraft taught me a few of those. TTYL means talk to you later and GTG means got to go.
P.S. I love your signature!

Amarella- I think that guild is the anit-christ! They actually have to translate it for themselves?! If I ever heard a kid actually TALKING like that I don't think I could resist 'automatic back-hand'.

And Nou, your siggy is friggin awesome wink

Wow and to think that stuff couldn't get any stupider. I wonder who came up with the idea?

I love that siggy, could we borrow it, Nou? It's great biggrin

As for the translator thing, my 13yo said she didn't understand the translations... yay for teaching english!!!!! I want to thank my grandma for whacking me with a yardstick when I used bad grammar!

Just another symptom of the eternal September that is the internet now.
I remember when the noobs got sorted out by January and everyone knew what they were doing then along came AOL and the noobs flooded in every month with "me too" posts on every usenet thread.

This thread did make my head hurt. And me to forget what I was going to say. xP Damn brats.

Oh! Now I remember! Best Internet acronym ever: BBQ - barbecue. Meaning: "I have had enough of those acronyms". Often placed after some other acronyms as a big, red sign to STOP exclaim

This reminds me of when Ebonics tried to become an official language. I was young so I don't know much of it, but to me it sounded mostly like chat speech.

Man, those hurt my head, I'm dyslexic to begin with... we need it to translate in reverse. I had to learn some because of text messaging with my sister. And I'll use some in forums, but I figure I can take the time usually to spell things out (and loving spell check in the browsers)
